So if I wanted to level another alt right now at somewhat competitive level to my main, I would have to
*Level it - possibly the most fun part of it all weirdly enough
*Do covenant campaign which I’ve done at least 5 times and it takes HOURS
*The MAW!!!
*Torghast - just can’t get enough of this place /s
*Renown/conduits grind - possibly minor inconvenience
*Domination shards - if you actually want to be competitive because bonuses are HUGE and it gets even worse because you need to upgrade with Stygian ember
I can understand why some people are switching to FF as you can play multiple jobs high end while still having life
The reason the game isn’t alt friendly is that Blizzard apparently wishes to treat each character as a distinct entity for roleplaying purposes.
It is one of the game’s ironies that Blizzard has squelched, minimised or ignored the areas of the game where greater emphasis on character customisation would have facilitated roleplaying people like, but wish to preserve it in areas where they can get players to repeat content as often as possible.
In other words Blizzard’s stated reason for alt unfriendliness isn’t true as we can demonstrate roleplaying means little to them. They wish to preserve the grinds so that you keep logging in. And keeping your other characters up to date with your main is compounded due to the number of systems Blizzard is now addicted to introducing.
The solution (if they want a good game again) is not a Final Fantasy style you can be every class on your main approach, but a SWTOR style legacy system where alts are given perks given progress on your main. Account wide reputation is long overdue for example.
They also need to STOP ADDING THESE UNFUN SYSTEMS. No Artifact weapons. No Azerite Armor. No Azerite Powers. No Corruptions. No Covenants. No Soulbinds. No Conduits. No Torghast. No Island Expeditions. No Warfronts. Stop designing the game to fight us at every stage of the journey. Three expansions of this nonsense and if the playerbase fleeing to Eorzea isn’t a big enough hint, then just understand nobody cares about these systems other than developers, nobody has fun with these systems, nobody misses these systems when they are removed, and nobody has had reacted with joy when the next soulless grind has been announced in the expansion features trailer.
Realy? Next time u will complain u have to gear your alts too right? Because why do i have to gear my alt if my main already has the gear… Just give it to me…
Just to clarify, I would like to level up alt for PvP. I have to do alt covenant campaign again? Let’s say I chose Kyrian and its shows 1/9 campaign done. I can’t do it again, I just can’t stand it doing for second time.
Korthia, have to do it again?
To level up renow, I have to grind WQ and other other PVE activities?
It’s kinda Okey to do it with main, but to redo it all with alts, it’s just not fun, then I choose not to.
In addition, Renown can be earned randomly through max level gameplay such as dungeons, raids, PvP, or Callings. If you are far behind the cap, you can expect your chance to earn Renown through these activities to be higher.
The further behind you are with renown the more it throws renown at you. The closer you are the slower the catch up. Renown is one of the easier ones to do on alts compared to the other things we must do to gear an alt IMO.
Except it’s RNG. Even if you wanted to catch up within a week, you’d probably not be able to do it. And the simple fact that such “catch-up” is even remotely connected to RNG is ridiculous.
Its pretty much same tho. Blizz never allowed such power to be acc wide thats why we had to regrind essences on alts until very late. We had to regrind AP, we had to regrind everything power related.
Quests, campaings and whatnot are different but character power related stuff such as those sockets, should never be acc wide, or somehow easily skipable on alts.
IT SHOULD, and IT MUST… there are so many classes and specs and races and horde and alliance. making it more easy to reroll would make players play more and have FUN!!!..
but a never ending grind just results in burnout and lack of will to try new classes out…
Fun, ever heard of it?.. Grinds are ok ONE TIME. one time and one time only let me have all benefits of my grind across all my toons… yes please…
I actually think SL is quite alt friendly, at least for casual play. It could be better, but I wouldn’t say it is bad. The worst of it is the Mythic+ upgrade system.
IMO SL’s is super multi-spec unfriendly, far more than it is alt-unfriendly. And for me thats a bigger concern.
What do you want to do with your alt though? Raid? PvP? M+?
If so, you don’t need the old Covenant Campaign for anything. You arguably don’t need to do the current one either, so far only thing it does is open up an additional Korthia daily or two. And it’s arguable you need to go hard on Korthia on an alt, just the weekly and the assaults would suffice for the Embers IMO. You don’t need the old Maw for anything, other than maybe a bit of Stygia for the chisel. Torghast you can skip and just send Soul Ash from your main for a Rank 4 lego, it’s not like an extra couple ilvls on one piece is gonna make or break your alt. Conduits can be easily expedited by just learning the ones you actually need and then using the upgrade item to guarantee upgrades on those. Domination gems… I mean, how is that different from normal gearing? You need to gear your alt, the gems are just part of that…
That just leaves Renown and the catchup for that, while not perfect, is pretty okay.
It IS pretty alt friendly. You can get an alt set up and started on the seasonal gear treadmill pretty easy all things considered. No, it won’t be min-maxed with everything and have all the rep and sockets and conduits… But that’s not the point of an alt. If you want your alt to be just as good as your main, you need to put in as much work as ypu do with your main, that’s pretty evident and logical and self-explanatory. But you can get 90% of the way there quite easy and quick in the grand scheme of MMO things.
We had a couple people rerolling to a fresh character this season and they are doing fine. They won’t be doing Cutting Edge raiding any time soon, but for a Heroic guild? More than enough. People should really stop acting like they absolutely need to min max everything like they’re Mythic Raiders. Only 1-2% of the population do Cutting Edge raiding in game, but somehow whenever you go on the forums, twitch, youtube or even general chat in-game, somehow everyone is a galaxy brain world first raider that needs the last 0.1% of optimization on every alt…
Yea, gotta disagree there, character power and progresion should be tied to said character, imo.
But i agree it should be easier to swap chars and spec, just not with easier gear, there is tons of other stuff that can improve it.
Also, keep in mind that if swaping is easier minmaxing becomes even more mandatory, and if its so easy to swap blizz has to pay even less attention to class balance, because “they can just rerol, they lose nothing, right?”… So be careful what you wish for.
i rather reroll quick than be useless forever like now… unlike you i like competetiveness, but i hate grind, i dont have much issues learning and master a new class… but fun is also a factor. i played all classes and done KSM and higher on them since legion… however i pref BM/DH because i love MOVEMENT AND HIGH APM / utility.
if it was up to me even ilvl would be accwide… it could be grind til u die irl servers for ppl like you. and quick servers for ppl like me. i dont want things to take forever all i want is challening fun and engaging content, not things like world quests and daily quests, i can do fine without such.
yes, classic wow, tbc, wotl. just get to max lvl and all the world is yours, there is some grind but its not gated and can be hardcore grinded in a few hours, unlike today where u have to log in on a daily basis for months…
it lacks challenging content im afraid. i outgrown normal and heroic dungeons. im a very driven m+ player. so im used to not standing in fire and using my kicks and so on… lul also used to doing a full dps rotation even on trash mobs, unlike in content where it just melts… so yea again that stuff is just boring.
