Hello!
I’m glad the Water Elemental Glyph problem is getting a fix in 12.0.1. The first time I summon it after logging in, it’s the default water elemental and I have to resummon it for it to have it’s glyphed appearance from the previous icy veins talents. I assume this will be fixed once the glyphs are actually working and being able to apply to the water elemental spell.
However there are further issues you need to look into about the Water elemental. Every time I mount and fly it gets dismissed, when I land and dismount the error text “You do not have a pet to summon” appears, it is gone, and I have to re-summon the water elemental - every single time. This is extremely annoying. Especially since I might land into a new encounter and the first thing I need to do is summon the elemental rather than clicking on a damage skill.

Same here! It’s really bothersome and not really worth picking when you have to constantly re-summon it again
And I have been so excited for it’s return! I really love the water elemental!
also icecals above my head, constantly, super annoying
At least that will be fixed with Midnight Launch (Patch 12.0.1) but I really wish they’d fix it sooner
They are also fixing the Water Elemental Glyph bug then. Also wish that was sooner :’)
Update 11/2/26 -
So it’s great that the Glyph and icicles were fixed in yesterday’s patch. But the issue where the Water Elemental is disappearing when I fly is still happening. I still have to re-summon it constantly and it’s a terrible experience using it.
(Updating since I’m not allowed to post without additional replies from others on my own thread)
Oh same, I always loved using the elemental…and it always felt quite ‘naked’ to play Frost without.
But yeah, this mounting-issue is really crippling.
Besides that, it feels like this pet is weirdly slow. It gets stuck literally everywhere, doesn’t follow you well, and makes you get stuck in combat half of the time. But once mounted, that thing flies towards you like you offer Oreo cookies for free. Would be nice to not have to spam ctrl-2 the entire time, and have it on passive just to act like a freeze-bot.

I love it, elemental is very thematic and I was so happy when I saw we are getting the talent back again, but hate it disappears everytime you mount up. It is so annyoing, especially in the open world and it could be an issue in prey event.

I also still have an issue with the Glyph, the first time I summon it (you have to resummon when you log in, every time) the base elemental look is still default. It needs to be summoned again for the Glyph look to take effect. Doesn’t seem to be known or adressed by Blizzard.

What’s most strange is that I have 2 frost mage characters. One of them has always been frost, and the other not much. The first one has his elemental work perfectly. Glyph is applied always and Elemental shows up everytime I dismount from flying.
The second one has all the bugs mentioned in the first post. Strange indeed.

Really? That’s very strange! I wonder why that is happening? Are both glyphed? Have they been glyphed before Midnight?
The frost mage indeed had icy veins glyphed during TWW. The Fire mage that I turned into frost did not and it is the ex-fire mage that has the elemental bugged. The one that has always been frost has his elemental work fine.
I even was experimenting with different glyphs to see if any of them causes the bug but nope. They all work fine.

I don’t have any glyphs on my Elemental, Mr Bubbles. (That’s his name don’t knock it).
But I have the issue with Mr Bubbles vanishing everytime I mount up, or mid quest if you have to use a teleport or some form of transport node. Or even if I nip to the loo and return, I find a note to say he’s popped out for some groceries and he never comes back unless I forcibly summon him.
Fix this Blizz.

Having the same problem and it is really annoying, especially in the open world while are you fighting to tag mobs, doing world quests or even during the prey event. You have to summon it every single time.

Strange. Mine was also Glyphed and I’ve played Frost since Legion. And my Elemental is bugged
I’ve also tried to remove glyphs, add another, change spec, remove the talent, re add the talent. So far no success in de-bugging the bugged elemental.
I refuse to ever play water elemental, even if it’s better - we are not a pet class; I have no idea why they brought this garbage back
Strongly disagree. Kirin Tor Mage were using Elemental pet even in Warcraft. I always pick pet due to class fantasy and would love if we ever get the option to have Arcane Elemental pet.

I strongly agree with this! I love my water elemental, always have!
I tend to play with the water elemental. Both my mages have the “You have no pet to summon” issue. I don’t remember having too many glyphs on my water elemental spells. Do brand new mages have this issue? Let’s say you just make a new one from scratch and use a boost?
Another (long-standing) issue with the water elemental is that when first summon after a logout, the elemental will start with zero mana and will be unable to cast Freeze.
Freeze is still quite nice for AOE pulls (delves in particular). I just like having the ability even though it no longer has any synergy at all with the Shatter mechanic.
Even in WoW, the elemental does go back quite a bit. I remember having one in the TBC pre-patch.

The elemental was fantastic to use in the Legion Tower Challenge for Frost Mage as you could use it to stand in a rune instead of yourself. I love my little water buddy!
And I agree, Freeze is a fantastic spell to have on hand. Especially since I only have one charge of Frost Nova these days. It was fantastic with the shatter mechanic
It’s definitely in accordance to lore and I was gutted when it was removed in the first place and put inside Icy Veins for so long. Jaina gets to have multiple elementals… I want to be a cool Frost Mage too
I was raid leader quite often when we were doing Karazhan in TBC. The water elemental is great for tricky pulls. Even now, you can use it for pulling, because you can control exactly where it stands and if the pull goes bad, you can go invisible (just like hunters use feign death). I think it has potential for some amazing LOS pulls (shoot a waterbolt, move out of LOS and have all the mobs run to the water elemental). Mages that are just using it as an automatic waterbolt dispenser are missing out on a lot of fun.
In delves, I have the water elemental do the pull and position myself well away from it. If I pop mirror images, the elemental (or my delve companion) will tank first and then the images and only then aggro goes to me. Of course most fights can be just done brute force without this kind of trickery…
