Water Striders, hard earned now useless

you get Flying at 60 and there are still no fly zones like silver moon or the draenei starting zone. But yes from 60 to 90 (WOD) you can fly almost everywhere.

To me, the whole “quality of life” change granting Water Walking for all with the use of that token just smacks of the Dev Team running out of ideas to entice people with the new patch.

They just chucked it in there in a desperate bid to keep people interested by taking the depth out of the remain gameplay yet again!

Do you think so? I guessed it was to give mount boosts like you get in WoD, but from an item, plus add something to professions. They didn’t want people to have water walking and something else, so they made it an either or.

It seems we can use the mount equipment for characters lower than 100 when they get a mount, but we do need one lvl 100 character.

Sailor it is useful but if you want to replace the buff with another you’ll lose it for all mounts. Instead before there were mounts for all environments, flying, ground and yeah even water walking. You’d say ok you remove it but you can fly why do I care? I care because I have the parachute if I get dazed whist flying but in SOB dungeon I can’t anymore run above water and that’s a huge fk deal!! For example.

They shouldn’t have mounts in dungeons. They make the world smaller and take away flying and the instanced content larger and put mounts in it. Ridiculous.

before you could waterwalk only on an ugly insect
now you can waterwalk on every single mount

It was a good move to get rid of it as it lets people that want the ability use it on any mount, instead of seeing every other player on a ground mount on one of the fugly waterstriders.

Also once you have flying its not needed at all really.

You can fly now and water walking is useless now anyway.

They should have made it so that everyone who has earned that waterstrider should have waterwalking regardless so that everyone can use an other mount equipment.

Both my dk’s have waterwalking through buffs, they’re already running faster and on top of that they get to equip an other mount equipment.

Have they thought this al through, i don’t think so, i see it as incompetence from their side but hey, we’ve seen a lot more of that from them so why should it surprise me.

As a Water Strider owner I’m annoyed we fought for them to keep the water walking when they were thinking of expansion locking in Legion so the blue could only be in Pandaria the Red in WoD if they wanted us to have choice then why make the mount equipment in the first place slot the only thing I use is water walking.

I was annoyed when they broke the warlock glyph of nightmares I miss my fire trail too.
annoyed that glyph of blurred speed that let rogues run across the water if you want players to have variety Blizz give those Glyphs back.

They should really name it to the no longer water strider :laughing:

I don’t like that they removed it’s ability either or that I have to put in on every char I have in the mount equipment.

Worse if it doesn’t work at low level because you tend to need it more then.

Whole mount equipment stuff is so piss poorly implemented that it’s just sad.

it depends on the change being made. change for changes’s sake alone is usually a bad idea. as is the case here. i think thats maybe why we see fairly big changes to class abilities each expansion. change for changes sake to make it feel like something new and interesting, when on paper it isn’t really. ok, classes need to get more powerful and learn new skills each expansion, but are such massive reworks every 2 years so necessary?

it was not the nicest mount, but far from the worse but most importantly, it fit. there are insects in real life that walk on water the same way the water strider does and thats probably why that mount was chosen for water walking as opposed to making a “magical” horse or wolf that could walk on water. when was the last time you saw a flying dog or flying pig? besides, if flying was available at level cap, im sure it wouldn’t matter so much not being able to water walk in most places. we did without it for 8 years. and we also have swimming mounts. though i would make a suggestion of a fix on them: make them not unmount when you are in water but reach the surface. it is very annoying.

exactly. although im not sure how i feel with mounts in GW2, (nothing to do with lessening travel time, that is always handy) they are beautifully implemented and each mount has a uniqueness to it which matches what the animal actually is.
raptor = leaps
stingray = hovers
rabbit = jumps
gryphon = flys
magic wolf = teleports.

but isn’t that one of the two uses that forums (at least initially) are for? its not our fault blizz dont read them much anymore. the other being for interaction between players. thats why so many people that use forums aim their posts usually at blizzard, whether it is a gripe or a suggestion.

its rare though isn’t it? i’d have nothing about them being not allowed in current content, but in legacy content, they should be allowed 100%. also, it does depend on the makeup of the instance we’re talking about. if you are towards the end of a dungeon, and there is a wipe, if there are no portals, a run can be very painful and a waste of time. look at EN for example, nothing really wrong with having mounts in there because of the way the instance was designed. same with NH where you can mount because you are running through a city.

I haven’t tested it recently but did they remove water walking buff from a pet Water Strider on a hunter if not hint… why remove it passively from the water strider mount ?

Leave the striders mount equipment slot empty so we could use something else *parachute

I know we were compensated on all alts for being water strider owners and I’m relatively grateful for that gesture it just bugs me the insect lost its whole aesthetic .

This is the very reason why i am still bitter about this change. It just devalues anything special and makes everything feel like throw-away rewards. Sure i can afford to go and buy those items and send to my alts but it just doesn’t feel right having to go and buy something again and again that i already had earned and been using since Pandaria. Water walking mount item should be working same way than heirlooms do (if you already owned the mount), you should be able to pull endless copies of it for free on any character from your collections tab. As long as you need to pay even one copper for it and to keep buying it, it devaluates the whole idea of working for things in RPG.

they kept the herbalism mounts the same. Unaffected by gems and they allow you to gather herb without dismounting.

Yet for some reason, apparently asking for water striders to experience the same thing was too much?

Who knows. I unlocked flying so i don’t even care anymore and i never do quests on alts i want to levelup and do dungeons only anyways.

So water walking with mounts is a thing and those who grinded for the bug mount feels like it was pointless.
Well, did you have fun along the way at least?

I am ready to bet my hat that they will add “pick herbs while mounted” mount equipment later and then we can also say goodbye to the herbalism mounts special properties. Doing it same time with water strider would have caused too big complaints so they probably going to dribble those changes in.

I’m Pretty certain that will be the case too

Levels, stats, and gear are not long term at all.
The latter two reset every patch, levels essentially resetting every expansion.
Epic legendary items are replaced with greens.
Hell even classes can drastically change, I put 7 years into mage just to no longer enjoy it.

The water strider basically locked you out of any other variant of mount when it came to water.

It lasted me for what, 5 years? I would say it did it’s job as being a long term reward.

I think it’s a change that will allow them to open up their creativity with mounts and what mounts can do.
Before it was locked to a mount, a mount that they even expressed concern about several years ago.

Being able to ride my new mount on the water thanks to a special mount item feels more like an RPG to me than having to use my water strider for everything.
It gets dull.

I personally look forward to what the mount items could do in the future.
