Because they didnt want to see everyone use the waterbugs. They had thought of putting expansion limits on them, but it caused a big outcry. So now they are making a mount equipment slot where the proffesions create many different items to slot in, but only one at once. So if you want no daze, you have to give up waterwalking for example.
But imho, the Anglers fishing raft serves just fine the same purpose.
And for those with waterstriders already, they are giving a waterwalk item for free, as well able to buy them cheap from nat pagle.
id be glad for some variation, not having to switch to waterbug. Though I am sad they didnt add gathering while mounted, i loathe the sky golem.
Yea, this really is not an issue. There isn’t anything for Blizzard to take away from us, because everyone who wants to have a Water Strider already has one.
While it may have felt like a bit of an accomplishment for some in early Mists of Pandaria, that time has long passed. The amount of effort required to get one equals the effort needed to level up BFA Fishing, bit boring but it’s not a big time investment and it’s not hard.
Most of us have one or more specific mounts we prefer to use, be it something rare (like a Zulian Tiger), something pretty (like Ashes of Al’ar), something that fits our transmog/identity or just the latest thing we achieved and wanna show off (like a Glacial Tidestorm, a Feltalon or maybe a Bonesteed).
Now we no longer have to feel forced/nudged to use our Water Strider in watery areas, but we can use our favorite mount instead; while still benefiting from Water walking. And in addition to that, we get some alternative options as well (besides just water walking).
There are only upsides for us strider-owners, and for those without a strider all the same.
I don’t mind working towards a specific mount that has a unique feature. However they removed the uniqueness from the water strider. It no longer HAS water walking without the new “shoes”. Which is kind of silly as the mount has Water strider (as in capable of walking over water) in its name. Next they will probably modify a dk’s path of ice to no longer effect mounts …
Think about it, now newcomers doesnt need to grind old expansions for a waterwalking mount if they dont have it. Just buy a waterwalk mount equipment on ah and you are set.
Wasn’t that mount account shared ? If the equipment slot for each mount is not shared then it’s a gold sink move by Blizzard and is not pleasant and IS an issue. If that slot is shared then nothing really changed. (i have not checked yet)
Man at least most people are getting some use out of the new items but my main is a blood dk with engineering. Literally none of the mount items are useful for me…
