We need a CR decay system

If a player hasn’t queued in X weeks, their rating should gradually decay.

Right now, high-rated players hop on alts and literally erase everyone at 1.6–2k MMR.

If you want to stay high rated play the game, not dodge queues and farm lowbies on alts.

I’m tired of seeing glads and 2.4+ players smurfing at 1.6-2k MMR bracket. Chain CCs, back-to-back kicks on healers, this is NOT 1.6 gameplay, it’s a sh!t show.

I got to 2k in Week 1/2 and didn’t see half of this crap.

Thank you.

Agree, i decided to try some soloq after a long time and spawned at 2,4 with full green gear, not a fun experience.

Wait, wouldn’t a rating/mmr decay literally result in high rated players smurfing on low mmr? Just don’t log in for a few weeks and farm low mmr games for easy conquest. Your post completely contradicts itself. :joy:

I am sorry but that’s not really how rating decay works in most games with structured PvP. It usually only affects your visible rating (CR), not your hidden matchmaking rating (MMR). So even if your CR drops from 2.4k to 2k due to inactivity, your MMR stays the same. Meaning you’d still get matched with players around your original skill level. You’re not suddenly farming 1.5-2k lobbies.

The point and the request of decay is to stop players from sitting on titles or rewards they earned months ago (start of the season) without playing. If anything, imho, it keeps the ladder more active and competitive. Something we’ve seen work well in MOBAs like LoL and Dota 2, as well as FPS games like Overwatch and Valorant.

That said, it’s just not fun for people at 1.6–2k MMR to constantly run into players who are clearly way above that level. Last night I played five games in a row, and in every single one there were at least four people with Gladiator titles/mounts.

Tbh, this kind of mismatch kills the experience for people who are actually trying to climb and improve. No wonder new players don’t want to touch PvP it feels like you’re getting punished for queuing in a “wrong” time.

Yes, I know there is easy version of RPVP called BGB but it is not the same.

fixed

If a decay system was to be implemented it comes with a few issues, most games typically only have decay at higher ratings rather than universally to begin with.

The biggest issue this would have in WoW PvP is that we´re already playing a game that encourages people to not play the damn game intill the very end of the season where they push their desired ratings, rating decay would play even more into this behavior as you can completely avoid decay by just not queing till the last 1-2 weeks.

Beyond that maybe introduce rating decay above say 2300 or 2400, in the end the top positions is all people actually care about in terms of ladder. This also lets us easily track whatever is overtuned currently in a more realistic manner n also shows the effects of nerfs faster. As it sits now you can nerf an op class n it´ll still remain high on ladder even if it got decapitated to enhancement levels.
