We need this for beginners or alts to ask questions to other people of same class without bothering trade or general or zone chats, it should be like trade chat not general, zone locked but for entire server to see, ask and answer.
Why force players to get on discord or reddit or forums or youtube to ask and search for someting when we can do it in game?
Discord servers are much more convenient, than chat in game. It stores all message history, includes several channels, easy to post links, images, videos, easy to administer with admins and moderators, support of bots and commands… Last but not least discord is available outside of the game from phone or just any browser. I have no idea how I would use game chat the same way as class discord.
While I am on many Discord servers myself, the notion that “get on a Discord server” is the standard answer to literally everything these days, including actual customer support, is so wrong…
When offering a product or services, at least make sure your service has the tools and means for proper communication between and with your customers.
That said…I don’t see that much purpose for dedicated class channels.
Perhaps a newbie channel like how FFXIV does it, with mentors would be sufficient?
Because in game blizzard is making decisions and taking initiative.
The problem with that is that they are reactionary and take way too much to add stuff in game.
What you are asking is for class forums. The problem is that forums are quite outdated system for information sharing, and this is why all communities have migrated to discord, where the functionality over there is way better.
Now if you ask why should you be “forced” to use discord, you are not. But also the community itself decided overwhelmingly that discord is a much better way to create those resources.
Sorry, but why is a forum considered “outdated” when Discord themselves literally just implemented “Threads” and Discussion Boards inside their own client?
That’s a good question, the why that is. I do not know the reason that forums are outdated.
The fact though that they are, is not in dispute, when class forums hardly get 1-2 new threads a day with 10 replies, while class discords have thousands of messages and information circulating daily.
I wouldn’t trust some random player in a chat channel to give solid class advice. Far better for them to go to class discords and the various resources online.
I can’t remember if this does this for all new alts but when I re-subbed some months back and went through a phase of creating a lot of alts, they all went in to newcomer chat. Perhaps it is if you choose to start in exiles reach. But, literally nobody spoke in it and with all my alts over different days/times, I must have spent several hours with that chat channel enabled.
So, unless WoW has a huge influx of brand new players, I can’t see this ever being needed if I’m honest but I do understand the concept of it.
