I have no idea why does Blizzard make so so soooo many ground mounts while most of the time people use flying ones. I feel like I have so many good looking ground mounts, but barely any flying ones. Even recently in Zereth Mortis there are 24 Protoform Synthesis and like only 5 are flying.
A lot of the time when there is a promotion we are awarded unique looking ground mount, which means people are barely gonna use it. I know that at the start of every expansion we cant fly, and that you can show off your ground mounts in battlegrounds, but still to me it just doesnt make sense that Blizzard is (at least in my opinion) wasting time on making so many ground mounts, which no one is probably gonna use.
What we need are more 2 Seater flying mounts. I don’t have any.
Vaguely tempted by Vial of the Sands as I saw it in AH for 70,000g yesterday. Which isn’t a bad price for that. But to me 70k still feels like quite a lot of gold. I’ve never bought the Yak for 120k as that feels like too much gold for a mount that I won’t ever use as a mount.
I have never counted how many are land bound and which can fly. It’s not like many of hte horses etc can’t fly.
I like the mix personally. When I’m somewhere I can only use ground mounts it shows me different random mounts to when I’m somewhere I can fly. It’s great.
The Yak is worth its weight in gold to me, for transmog, bag clearing and repairs out in the field.
The only thing is that it doesn’t really fit the theme of most areas and stands out a lot.
Imo, still better than the transmog area/npcs in Stormwind (which somehow got past planning). Inside it looks out of place, is tiny and crowded with players, while trying to click the transmogrifier npc.
I would like to see a couple of new generic transmog/repair mounts, (2 person if you like ? - carriage or part-covered cart etc) that blends in most places and is not too big).
I have the Tundra Mamoth for that, worth all of the 16,000 gold. For Transmog when I need it I use my Dalaran Hearth and pop in there to update my mog. But I’ve been wearing this mog on this shaman since MOP. Took me ages to farm it and I needed help from a friend to kill Patchwork for the belt, took us months just for the damn belt (still having nightmares years later).
That 16000g is probably the most I’ve spent on a mount. I haven’t bought too many of the 10k rep mounts either as 10k still feels like a lot of gold (even though I know these days it really isn’t).
They adding only mounts to the game and battle pets…there is so many mounts that they stopped giving fun when you getting new one. Just another mount…
Well I dont think that they should stop making ground mounts, but I feel like there are so so many more ground mounts than there are flying ones, expecially good looking ones. And expecially in the last few expansions, I feel like they have mostly been adding ground mounts.
Best investment ever imo! I haven’t used any other mount more frequently then the Yak. I love to be able to mog on the run. You can’t show up and look dull when you are about to slay Hogger!
Hopefully in the expansion we’ll get duck mounts. Waddle full speed down to the lake, swim across with enhanced speed, then take to the skies with the new duckriding skill as you reach the waterfall.
You know, I appreciate what you are saying here. I think the balance is pretty good tbh.
Aesthetically, I prefer ground mounts. I would actually like more opportunity to be using one.
I think the reason why Sarge (hearthstone promotion) was a ground mount, was because you can buy an almost identical flying mount on the Store, Squeakers the Trickster. I would have felt pretty horrible for those who bought the Store mount for it just to be given away later on.
You are wrong. People use flying mounts only in outdoor. In PvP/dungeon/raids and all kind of instanced content we use ground mounts. For me personally the time is split 60/40. I spent very little time in outdoor zones. Most of my time is in M+ so i use only ground mounts. This means BLizzard making ground mounts is a necesity!
