Warmode might have looked good on paper, but honestly it has killed every ounce of pvping outside of arenas and BGs.
When i started wow i started on twisting nether, when it still was a PVP server, that was the good old days, i dont see why we cant have that again, there should be atleast 1 pvp server available so that world pvp becomes a thing again. I might have an unpopular opinion here, but as someone who loves PvP in general, that was awesome, wether it was ganking, getting ganked, or grouping up to fight 10 other enemy faction players in somewhere in the game, it was fun. Those who choose a pvp realm though knows the consequences, i never really got the issue with it, if you disliked pvp play on a non pvp realm, but Twisting nether was one of the most populated realms in the game, and it was a PvP realm. Warmode is gddamn awful.
Literally this, like i felt that was a form of “hard mode” in one way or the other as there was no way you wouldnt be ganked to hell on a first toon with no heirlooms no nothing, you just had to accept it, also world seemed so much more populated, now there is sharding,
I played well over a decade on Stormscale-horde n dident change intill BFA when warmode was replacing PvP servers. Even prior to the removal of PvP servers the playerbase kinda ruined the servers themselves.
Stormscale for example was always horde dominated but in the early days it was say 60-40% in hordes favor or so, maybe abit more hordes even.
Before the PvP servers disapeared it was more like 90-10/95-5 or so in hordes favor. I know all PvP servers went the same route which is why it was removed.
Essentially the take from this is that everyone wants to be on the winning side n way too many people only want wPvP if they´re winning n switch faction when it becomes inconvinent. Ontop of that we also dident have crossfaction activities back then which resaulted in a situation where if you want to do endgame activities you NEED to be part of the dominant faction where all the LFG and guilds are.
We see the same pattern in classic wow where PvP servers still exist, the dominant faction just keeps growing intill there is no more war.
I honestly miss PvP servers alot myself but from a practical perspective i think warmode is a better solution. It just feels abit “unpolished” and a version of it i would prefer far more would be “outlaw mode” where everyone that isnt inside my party are hostile no matter faction.
Because whiny players wanted every catered to them instead of taking a few minutes of their day to enjoy pvp and make the world more alive.
Warmode did bring in a lot of more passive players who won’t attack on sight, but old mode still had some of these people.
Im not saying being camped and wrecked by someone who’s way better than you is amazing, but it did make things more … alive; more interesting.
In this game NO PVP at all. Why do you need a PvP server? Let me guess, pick up OP unbalanced class and gank everyone in open world?)))) Kidding, but still, here is no PVP. unbalanced sh…
Because it makes people hop on and off from it at their pleasure, you pop warmode kill a rare and pop out, why? Because sharding, because if ur wm you cant see non wm people, the game feels empty without it, it ruined wpvp by all means.
Ah yes. Fair point. On the old PvP realms you couldnt turn it off. Creates whole different atmosphere. But isnt there a timer if you turn WM off? Cant just switch it off…
It’s not as easy as it sounds… because there are many issues tied into the old way of having PvP being mandatory.
I play in WM 99% of the time… and the server feels much more dead after WM became a thing… So I agree that a mandatory WM server would be incredible to the people who enjoy WM.
But…
There is also the problem of World Quests, and other open world contents becoming such a big part of the game, in the modern WoW we have today…
A mandatory PvP system (like we used to have), makes griefing unavoidable.
We no longer “just level”, like we used to… a core part of the max level content today, is in the open world. Including progression currency, which is required for some content.
WM was created in BFA, to solve the problem, that the modern version of the game turned into, after Legion, where the focus shifted over into open world content.
I would personally not mind a pure PvP server But I know from experience, that A LOT of players will flood the forums, to complain about “open world content being impossible to do”…
There WILL be many pre-made groups of people, every hour of the day, purely dedicated to griefing.
Find a way to get around that, and I would happily transfer my characters to a “PvP only” server.
