Weak Auras

I haven’t had it installed and I’d like to know why I should.

WeakAuras can be created for all sorts of purposes, and personally speaking, the triggers, alerts, and precise counters it gives me have been valuable. For example, I use this WeakAura set which lays out all the cooldowns I need to track often, plus moderately large numbers for Mana placed right in front of my eyes: (GIF is a little outdated, but the WA got updated for prepatch as required):

I also had my guild Officer make me a WeakAura for Evocation that glowed when I reached 30% Mana and alerted me to use the spell, and then further made a sound whenever I reached 100% Mana and could stop channeling it. It has been handy to do so instead of squinting at the Mana counter for whenever I got full Mana and saves me damage uptime. Further as a Healer my friend shared a WA that sends out a /s with my % Mana that remains after each successful pull.

All in all there can be Auras for almost anything you want. Tracking Interrupt cooldowns of your party members, procs that you receive, certain event buffs and debuffs (such as a Thing from Beyond WA that alerted you to impending doom in BfA), all coupled with the sort of alert mechanisms that you can edit to your liking and comfort, make WeakAuras extremely handy.

You do not have to have them, of course. But they provide lots of convenience to you and your party, depending on your role.

Ive seen you on another thread asking things and mentioning you are new to the game. I can tell from now you walk in the right footsteps xD
You will never, ever learn to play wow by yourself but asking around in this game gets you answers, thats what i did myself when i started the game

You can google weakauras and get to their site, there players create their own weak auras for literally ANYTHING you can imagine and alot of them upload it there for others.

There is the old-school alternative to it which is TellMeWhen that i use along WA’s because im too bored to learn to create my stuff on WA’s.

You can track a proc, you can track a debuff on you, you can track an enemy cast there are 0 limitations to what WA’s can do as long as you find the WA you need OR create it.

Yeah when I’m heavily into something I have many questions lol. Thanks for your reply.

This site is where most of us get weak auras that others have made, it also has links to their discord, github etc. A lot of streamers make or have WAs made for them, some share on the site, others will share them only to their subs etc.

You can also write your own ofc.

Weakauras make your life easier. I use them to track my trinkets cool down, procs, essence cool downs, dungeon spells/debuffs, incoming spells during boss encounters.

It’s also quite common for guilds to share WAs for raids if there is a specific mechanic. Mythic plus it’s also handy to be able to see certain things, like an interrupt tracker for example.

You can do literally anything with WeakAuras, making an entire UI if you so wish.

One of the most versatile addons out there.

And if you dont find a template you like or want something else or an easier (yet worse) option then use TellMeWhen. Im using a mixture between WA and TMW.

The asking of the question tells me that you don’t need it, so yeah, you shouldn’t get it, it would be of no use to you, at this point.

Thats bull. I was sceptical of WA years ago as well, yet there is no doubt that one could have said i “needed” it or at least would have made good use of it. After i looked into it myself it became a permanent part of my UI.

WAs is one of the best addons there is for this game.

You can track your important spells duration, coolwon, buffs, debuffs, basically anything.

Even though that information is available with the blizzard UI it is so much more difficult to keep track of. Your buffs/debuffs are in the top right of your screen, your spells are at the bottom, your dots’ duration is only displayed under your enemy’s character portrait which is in the top right.

These things are important in a PVE scenario, where there’s a lot of stuff happening at once and you need to maintain your dps.

Most popular use of WA is concentrating all that information into the middle of the screen. And it’s incredibly useful.

You don’t have to scour your entire screen to see what spells/buffs etc you have active, it’s all tightly condensed in the center.

Since you’re new to WAs there a website full of templates: wago. io

Rule of thumb. If Canabal says it, its bull.

I don’t think theres a player in the game WA wouldn’t benefit in some way.

I can’t say much since I despise using any addons, I always felt like they are just to make it easier, I prefer more of a challenge

But you do you!

If we were to follow that logic, every addon is needed.

Having a reason to get something is more aligned with need than looking for a reason to is.

@me bro

So you can show everyone how dumb my post is.
