I’m a new player; I have been playing for about a week, and my character is a level 36 hunter. Last night I noticed an issue - my weapon started dealing incredibly large amounts of damage, around 50 to 100 times larger than it should do.
For example, my arcane shot should deal 200ish damage. It has started dealing over 10,000. My aimed shot, which should deal 850ish damage, deals over 50,000 damage.
I hoped that logging out and logging back in today would resolve it, but it hasn’t. I’ve tried un-equipping and re-equipping my weapon, but that hasn’t solved it. I also tried equipping a different weapon, but the issue persists.
I’ve submitted a bug report in-game but I don’t know what’s causing the issue, and so I couldn’t provide any more information than I’ve provided here. Has anybody else experienced it / know what’s causing it?
Thanks.
Update: the problem is happening in the Eastern Kingdoms but not Kul Tiras.
I’ve been questing with friends around Kul Tiras, but have been exploring the Eastern Kingdoms by myself in order to train my mining profession. I just went to Kul Tiras and my damage numbers are what they should be, but returning back to the Eastern Kingdoms the problem returns.
Just a word of caution, if you believe an item is doing abnormally large amounts of damage, once you report it as a bug in game, you need to stop using it.
If you continue to use it after reporting it, they can technically permanently ban you for bug abuse, if they decide “yes it was bugged”, because you gave indication that you knew it was a bug.
So I would suggest you find and use a different weapon now.
Yes I know there is a school of thought that says “Blizzard need to fix it if they don’t want people using it.” but in reality, they just ban people for abusing bugs.
Thank you for your advice.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be tied to an item - one of the first things I tried was equipping a different weapon, but the same thing happened.
I have just discovered (edited my original post to reflect this) that it seems to be related to location, as in Kul Tiras, where I have been questing, the damage numbers are normal. But back in the Eastern Kingdoms, the numbers are inflated.
I can easily avoid for now any combat in the Eastern Kingdoms. I just really hope it can be fixed, unfortunately I am at a complete loss as to what could be causing it.
That’s buff for doing legacy (old) content like Eastern Kingdoms in your case. Once you have levelled to 50 once you can activate “Chromie time” for the new characters which makes all content scale from level 10 to 50.
Without it (eg. new or returning players who haven’t level 50 character) need to use Battle for Azeroth zones (Kul Tiras, Zandalar) for levelling to 50 for the first time.
Working as intended in other words. Game doesn’t really explain it very well but if you complete quests in old content without Chromie time you will get no XP etc.
