As a ret , i feel like wearing plate doesn’t seem to provide any reduction to the incoming damage. For example i feel like wearing plate i am less mobile and i can understand that, but warriors can kill me very easy and they can jump around like monkeys on xtc ,rogues use poison that bypass armor, rapid fire is doing way too much damage on me and generally i feel like i do have the disadvantages of a heavy armor but not any significant advantage.
On the other hand ,there are casters that have more physical reduction due to talents than armor provides and they are a bit tankier even as cloth users
Maybe the problem is, you are playing Ret.
The 4th warrior spec never obtained alot off attention from Blizzard.
It feels like it is made just to give paladin a DPS option cuz “Every spec needs a DPS option, right?”
Yeah they’ve said they messed Paladins up and we are due a rework and even specifically that plate classes should not be squisher than cloth classes. So hang tight I guess.
Frankly, I’ve played since 2008 and I’ve never felt a correlation between the armor type and survivability. I always thought this is just some lore thing, but your actual survival depends on your class abilities and nothing more.
Technically though armor is what it is… protection and this is how i think it should work. Ofc there should be abilities that help but armor should be the main factor regarding the physical damage reduction should be the armor.
It’s part of the reasons for the rework, our high death rate despite being plate.
The developer behind World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, Blizzard Entertainment, will soon be reworking the specialization Retribution Paladin. This particular build has been criticized by players for being one of the worst DPS specializations in the game, Retribution Paladins suffering from an exceptionally high death rate, among other problems. The rework is aimed at making the specialization a more competitive and viable choice for players.
It’s not about ret only, its about plate, leather and cloth users.
Armor should be accordingly to what you wear. It is stupid that a warrior has such a high mobility while wearing plate . It is stupid that locks can withstand so much physical damage ect.
It’s so odd to me, even with all the utility (looks at HoP, Lay Hands, Shield of Vengeance). At least physical AoE should be dampened properly.
Compare to Classic where I regularly see clothies in melee range (Fire mage for instance) dropping like flies to whirlwinds and cleaves such as the 1st boss in Nexus, while a good plate easily survives it, but it’s the same for solo - I remember soloing the Borean Tundra necropolis quest easily on my pally as she was meleed for 500 damage only, and my mage took up to 1200 dmg per swing and so she had to kite to have a chance.
Both enhancement shaman and survival hunter wear mail and are like the most fragile things out there flopping over when anything even looks at their way. So yeah armor class doesn’t really mean much nowadays.
Play monk then play again pala its significant less dmg you get.
I play pala warri monk and sham, and you feel the diffrence between all 3 types of armor.
HoP is now a talent, I don’t even use it in raids it’s not part of the build.
We lost a huge amount of utility as Paladins now that it’s all been shoved in the tree. I presume it’s the same for other classes but we lost a huge amount of our standard toolkit.
That is more a Pedcak issue then anything tbh…
It is a well known stereotype surrounding Paladins at this point .
Either they’re god-gamers and solo the instance or they’re completly useless and cosplay carpets.
Indeed, but I’m glad I have less of a button bloat.
I never really used Shackle Undead (useful in Classic or TBC but that’s it really…), Leap of Faith is cool but impractical - I’d rather have it like Verdant Embrace, to improve mobility.
For shadow I always liked the old Vampiric Embrace more (in Wrath where you passively leech HP) and the new choice node does exactly that.
Utility doesn’t seem valuable now, unless it’s a brez or BL effect, maybe a good raidwide CD.
A huge amount of dmg at PvP ignores armor . Bleeds poisons bypass armor . Except warrior and hunter all other classes deal " magic " dmg
It would be better to add a magic dmg reduction to plate gear either be by enchants or simply a new stat . Depending on the amount of armor u get a magic dmg reduction.
The difference is now the stat’s . Armour in classic to wotlk for example counted for a lot more than it does now. Paladins are now very squishy as dps.
As for armor as a caster about how is valuable. If they had only armor for defence against physical dmg , their were doomed in the first place. Warrior is so " strong" that can jump with armor.
I have to have a defensive to survive everything now. No defensive/health pot/healthstone/shield/heal and there is damage coming in, tough you’re dead. So I disagree, they have changed the class, we are more squishy, we can’t survive.
Friends have noticed how I die so much more now than ever before.
So I’m looking forward to how they address that.
I think you are being rather rude and dismissive of paladins and the players in all honesty even blizzard admits there is flaws in ret atm hence the work over.
It should really come back. I loved how tough tanks were at high gear levels, passively taking 70% less damage, even fewer with specific + armor gear like certain amulets or cloaks mainly.
These days I believe it’s 50% on average or even less and I do feel like I take a ton of dmg on Retail even as a tank.
If we happen to party up once, I’ll sure do this (that said the odds are low, as I didn’t even do a +10, let alone 15s or higher…)
I also can’t speak for how good you are or not. We never did any ingame activity together
Ahem… anyways, I do hope your spec gets fixed and buffed. Did play it yesterday, and while it did feel strong, having 3 different procs and 5 abilities coming off CD with a full holy power bar is overwhelming.
In all honesty, every class needs a revamp. Only DHs and Evokers don’t have an insane button bloat, or maybe Arms Warriors.
We’re getting a rework. I’m just gonna wait and see.
