Weekly vault is the worst mechanic in the game

The idea of the vault is good, but it needs an algorithm. It should…

  1. Not offer you anything you’re already carrying at an equal or higher ilvl, unless you’re a dual wielding class and only have 1 of that 1h weapon.
  2. Not offer multiples for the same slot on the same week.
  3. Identify the lowest slots a player has ever looted and prioritise offering replacements for those.

Even 1 and 2 would be good, 3 would be absolute icing on the cake. I would look forward to the vault every week if it was reliably swapping out my worst items.

But when it gives me the same 226 bracers 3 weeks running, I just want to log off and not bother trying. I’m falling significantly behind my raid group now because there aren’t any other gearing routes :pouting_cat:

Nope its not. Forging was the worst system ever created. Vault is good and almoat perfect. It just needs some fix so it wouldnt drop same pieces or it would drop pieces you have currently the lowest ilvl on.

You can have up to 9 items you can chooae from, but you need to play the game. Forging rewarded you randomly where you coulsnt choose anything for almost doing nothing. Ppl who say forging was better completly lost their minds.

is not working like that … u can get 226 wrong stats and never be able to replace it … or bad 226 trinket which u cant replace … instead of targeting exact item it could be better that u have more chance to get item … and max item from m+ should be 233 not 226 … or simply scale or 233 items to 226 in the m+

forging was good … but u will never ever understand … if u dont like I LIKE FORGING AND I WAS ENJOYING and bcs of ppl like you CANT ENJOY THE GAME ANY MORE …

The weekly vault is a garbage player retention mechanic through delayed rewards. It also needs to exist because M+ is garbage.

Both M+ and the weekly vault must be deleted and the game will immediately improve.

“I do not like this content so it needs to be deleted” Solid argument there.

I’m 100% sure rng in WoW is messed up.
Last right:
Shriekwing - 3 backs dropped.
Huntsman - 3 necklaces dropped and it’s not first time something like that is happening.

Vault, despite having more chances, often gives duplicates. Just make it possible to gear to 220 through dungeon/raid/arena/bg spam and make 226 ilvls gated behind rng/time. Blizzard cannot into systems, so just leave it most simple.

There are though. Looking at your armory, you can still get upgrades from even heroic raiding, 1800 rated PvP and mythic raiding. Your gear is far from even being soft-capped. Of course you can still get shafted by bad RNG in those as well, but that’s been a part of the game since forever outside of PvP. Valor upgrades should be able to alleviate the RNG aspect as it at least lets you farm for specific items to upgrade.

If you were doing heroic and mythic raids you wouldn’t be dressed in 209, guy.

I have gone at length about why M+ is garbage, but here’s a few reasons:

  • RNG access to over 300 dungeons is not a good system.
  • Infinitely spammable content causing players to burn themselves out
  • Encourages degenerate play and sociopathic behavior
  • Failure has to be too punishing (which it is), or the system can’t work
  • Causes players to rush in the pursuit of 3rd party score, which they feel conscious and judged for
  • Dungeons cannot feel rewarding as no bosses drop loot
  • Non-meta classes are extremely punished.
  • Makes pugging a miserable experience.

SL specific:

  • Prideful is designed in a way where if the tank doesn’t know a meta path and pulls even 1 (one) extra mob, the entire key is ruined and you might as well quit. Incredibly tiny margins for error result in a degenerate community.

Note how all threads about how awful pugging is talk about M+.

Let’s check Mythic dungeons now:

  • Weekly capped. You have to do 8 and you’re done
  • Do not punish not rushing. You only have to do 8 anyway, so there’s nothing to rush.
  • Failure’s punishment is only in the time it took you to fail the dungeon.
  • No RNG access to dungeons
  • Non-meta classes are welcome, thanks to all the previous points
  • You do the dungeon for the loot, not for 3rd party score or to fill up a delayed reward chest.

M+ is garbage and needs to be removed.

why isn’t it? I like the fact that every week is different.

this is the player’s choice, noone is forcing you to keep spamming if you do not want to

I mean have you tried pugging heroic? I think this is more a community problem.

Too punishing is debatable, in legion it was. right now I do not think it is.

some people misuse rio, I agree. But if used correctly it is just a tool to maximise success chance.

Right now the loot is lackluster I agree, but if end of dung chest contained a bit higher level/more gear it’d be rewarding imho.

I never do full pugs, I just found likeminded people and run with them (+1 or 2 pugs) which makes wow in general so much more enjoyable.

you call it a “degenerate community” which is just an opinion, I like the fact that you actually need to know the dungeons and paths.

If you delete M+ a big chunk of the playerbase will leave because they will no longer have their favourite passtime in game while also having 0 positive effect on those that don’t do it.
Don’t like M+? Then don’t do it but don’t demand that it needs to be deleted as it has NO effect on you.

this is main reason why i dont even level up alts till 9.1. its pointless as they will literaly never catch up to 12+ weeks of GV that my 3 chars have.

its actually quite scary as itl is showing everything in SL - my DH that raids is 215, my hunter that doesnt raid but only does m+ for GV is 211 (they hit max level the same week) , my mage that also only m+ is 207 - reason ? it hit 60 4 weeks after hunter - and its exacly 4 itlv behind - why ? because its 4 lockouts of GV behind.

i honestly cba to level up anythign because those char will be perpetually behind on gear. and i cba to only do m+ for GV on 4-5 chars /shivers

well simply what will happen if besides vault … u have chance to get higher item than 207 on +14 … what is really to low that for example u have 50% chance for 210+ … like 25% chance for 213+ … than 12% for 217+ … 6% for 220 and 3% for 223+ and like 1 % for 226 … wel at least that u have chance to get … bcs playing for plain 207 item is really boring

I Should’ve taken screenshots of my past 4 weeks loot from the vault.

Same exact 226 legs from 3rd boss in Plaugefall every single week, and that’s my least run dungeon. The second option because i only do 4 M+ runs a week, same cloak twice followed by a different cloak once, followed by the same cloak from the first 2 weeks.

First time i was happy, 2nd time i got pissed, 3rd time i started laughing because really!, 4th time it was just pure frustration and alt+f4

If gear wouldn’t have THIS MUCH impact on every type of content then it would be player choice, but unfortunately whole game revolves about ilvls.

Arenas - 10 ilvls difference and you can say GG.
Raids - either you push boss to X% within Y seconds or you have 2 times harder encounter  guess what, ilvl plays main role.
M+ - mostly OK with ilvls, but some packs/bosses require high dps and high hps or you just won’t make it.

Gearing to 220 should be quick and spammable, gearing to 226 BiS should be long RNG.

If I want to do NW+15 but none of my mates have that key, I have to go and seek randoms who have it. This is not about the weekly affixes - those are actually fine. This is about just the number of keys and the randomness.

You pull one extra mob and there’s a good chance your key is degraded. Obviously, if someone leaves a party, it’s the party leader’s fault. Imagine you want your M+15 trinket from De Other Side. You fail your key, the hunter left the party and now… you have an M+14 De Other Side key. You no longer have access to the dungeon you need to farm.

Keys themselves are too punshing.

Except it’s not really the player’s choice, as their choices are dictated by the game design. If let’s say your RIO is low and you want to do dungeons, you’ll feel compelled to spam runs to get that RIO high. Players being untrustworthy is why Blizz has the stupid stamina system for soulbinds. Because they learned in BFA that players are too petulant and childish that they cannot be trusted to make good decisions at all.

Also, players spam the same dungeon over and over (problem compounded through RNG dungeon access) hoping to get their bis item of a certain item level. They burn themselves out and then end up here in these forums, hating on the game. This CANNOT be a problem if M+ isn’t a thing.

Game designers know players cannot be trusted to have fun in a game. The game has to be designed in such a way that it is fun despite what the players want to do. Because players, left to their own devices, will not have fun. They will pursue the optimal path to obtaining the reward they want. No matter if it’s fun or not. This is why PVP was so popular - not because it’s fun, but because of the rewards.

Half the threads on these forums are people complaining about M+ and the systems that have to exist as a result of it, like loot scarcity or the weekly vault.

If you could only do 8 dungeons a week, getting 2-3 items per dungeon is fine. You’re limited, so go ahead, take these ~20 items over a week.

Due to dungeons being infinitely spammable, the ~20 items per week soft limit needs to remain, but because you can do 50 dungeons in one week easily, these 20 items are spread over 50-ish dungeons.

M+ is garbage.

EDIT: Pugging raids is not even comparable. Because unlike M+, if you want to do a specific raid, you have direct access to it, and you don’t have to pug. You can be in a guild, you can play with friends. But if none of your friends have the key you want to do, then you HAVE TO PUG.

It helps to save conquest if one gets a lucky choice.
but my point was to explain why the vault actually discouraged me to play m+, since i can only get 1 item, when before i got benefit for playing both m+ and pvp.
so i incline to disagree with your idea that it encourages trying different types of content.

Yeah same wrong stats on wrong item that you couls get by TF but now you have 9 to choose from. And I coulsnt enjoy gamw with TF but now i kinda can so why should i put your enjoyment over mine?

well still this and titan forging together will be better than this …still that u have reason to spam m+ if u like to play m+ … vault alone is worse than forging

I know, I was listing what it needs

Yeah, but I’m not talking about gear cap for the entire game, I’m talking about what I have access to

  1. I do CN with my guild every week. We made our second ever heroic Denathrius kill yesterday, so we haven’t been doing full clears often because that’s been our progression focus.
  2. We may never full clear heroic again, because most of the team and won’t benefit. It’s not worth using our raid night to try to fish out those last few gear slots when we could instead be doing mythic progress.
  3. We’ve only barely started mythic raiding. So it’s not a gear source at this time. It will be later, but my problem is now.
  4. I am not a PvPer. My guild is running a weekly RBG night; however, we’re struggling to break 1400 because we are a dungeon and raid guild full of carebears. Most of us started with 0 rating. It is going to be hard for us to get useful gear from this, but at least it’s a bit of fun once a week.

As for most PvE players, the vault is my weekly upgrade. I run 1-4 M+, which drop nothing of value and usually nothing, then my vault holds a 223 or 226 item. Which I hope is going to be useful.

For some players, it’s great, they swap out a 200 for a 226 and are happy. Others get the same slot they got last week. And when that happens to you repeatedly, and others in your group are replacing unique slots, you end up behind, even when you did as much or more content.

Which is why I think it needs to actually have some protection against duplicates and make an effort to be an upgrade. If the vault always looked at the lowest ilvl slot a player had ever looted and always offered that, it would be reliable and loved. It would always, always be good news. You’d never be disappointed.

Unless it gives you Sheet Music, obviously :smile_cat:
