The “Welcome Back Gift” should not remove and replace the spells in the toolbar
all the more for characters we didn’t play for long as the spell order in the bar is something that can remind us and can help us handle the class again.
At least it should be optional just like the erasure of the quest journal.
I didn’t know it does, but yeah it really shouldn’t. Most classes do have changes, yes, but there are many binds that we remember and want to keep, even if the character is a decade old.
It also doesn’t warn that it will reset action bars, which it should. I would not have used it on the one character I did had I known. Right now that character is waiting for me to have the will to go back and redo her action bars, and talents.
Anyway, such an addon would not work for us, since the “Welcome Back gift” can be triggered only once, only if we do not log in the character before…
I hope it will be fixed soon.
any reply from the staff that it is a known issue would be appreciated
In my case I have one template that is set up on my main, so all I do when I use the ‘gear update’ option then apply the template if it has reset all my UI.
However the last two I tested, retained my UI layout and I’ve not had to re-apply it. As these are all characters I’ve not touched for two expansions they all need their abilities sorting out, it’s given me the default loadout for talents and slapped some abilities on my bars.
This is how the same thing looks on my main. Obviously more populated bars.
Indeed you can’t log on it in advance. If you did, you’d have to wait another 60 days for it to trigger again.
Oh sorry but this is not what I meant by “Action Bar” spells.
I use custom template too, but the problem is all the spells are ordered in a precise order for each spec, and the WelcomeBack thing just erases this, so you have lost the correct keybinds of each spell, shortcut, macro or even mount and pets.
The keybinds are still there, my macros are still available in the menu for me to drag in place. Though I have to admit I don’t really use character specific.
I can understand it’s a complete pain to have to set it all up again. I think the only reason I’m not fussed is that they are all chars I’ve not played since before the talent trees were introduced and everything will have changed since I last did anything on them.
Not sure why you’d use the Gear Update if you had decent gear already.
I think the only way to back up your Action Bars would be to manually write them into a text file or something. But to do this you’d have to log in which would remove the Update Gear option for 60 days.
I have priest alt that I don’t play much (it’s level 50 for the heritage armour) and I think I might use this feature when the 60 days are up (should be soon). But I’m not looking forward to redoing the Action Bars. Likely I’ll only use it for Transmog runs so I’ll only need a few spells for that so won’t be a big issue unless I decide I want to play it more.
