Having posted my “farewell” comment at the time of him leaving Blizzard, I wish to make this short post to let the guy know “so glad you came back” (advisory role or not)

I don’t think there is much Metzen can do for WoW. The setting of the game is hardly recognizable from the one we had when Metzen left, and there is no obvious way to get it back to the “good old days”. Metzen’s writing wasn’t exactly genius, either, it was simple and straightforward, borrowing hevily on stuff that worked in other properties. That’s not bad, but not the same skillset you’d need to dig WoW out of the cosmic hole it put itself in.
What I find more interesting is the tease about Warcraft as a “growing francise” that he’ll be advising on. That sounds like they might actually use their IP in other projects that are supposed to have some lore to them. Who knows, he might be able to do something with a single player RPG or something like that…
That man is the reason Orcs stopped being cool. I mournd his return. We will get only more alliance bias.
He’s an advisor and as far as public knowledge goes he has no real creative control so keep your expectations measured.
While I generally agree with that, we also have to say that the public pretty much only knows what’s on paper. It could be, that he is just getting paid to bring them some more positive “Metzen is back!”-PR without actually doing anything. Or it could be that the game directors won’t approve of any story decisions without Metzen’s approval, because he is the OG Blizzard Rock Star. Or it could be that the title he has now is transitory, because the Warcraft project he will actually have a controlling position for hasn’t been announced yet. And everything in between.
But we should certainly measure our expectations. But really… that’s independent of his level of control. I don’t see why anyone would think that Metzen alone could save Azeroth from the hole that Blizzard dug for it in the last decade.
This I would consider more likely since Metzen also has a reputation to think of.
Being the "
guy, will not cut it.
As far as expectations go, Metzen stands for more lore “authenticity” than Afrasiabi or Danuser could ever provide, don’t you think? So, it’s a cheery moment of sorts, imo.
Agreed, but it’s a step in the right direction.
I hope we get good plots and a coherent storyline instead. This overextended faction bias is wearing thin.
That’s kind of the ultimate thing isn’t it? Foundational problems plaguing WoW are more in the direction of California political climate and a messy pipeline steming from questionable leadership. The latter is hopefully not gonna be as bad as it was over the past 2 xpacs, but that’s regardless of Metzen’s involvement, unless he’s there to boost the boys’ morale.
People who like Metzen are the reason the Horde story sucks. Honor idiots have ruined the Horde. They work with our nemesis and stab all our allies in the back for their peace treaty.
Ngl I’d still be Horde if I could play as a proper bad or at least somewhat grey area brutish type.
I think I understand why Wrathion once wanted to wipe out an entire faction off Azeroth to ultimately get her surviving denizens to unite against the Legion. I can see that in this forum. The disappointing fact for me is, even the Horde doesn’t seem to truly belong to their faction. Many of you think Metzen is Alliance biased, I however, have a different viewpoint (Erevien will lash out on me, but I really don’t give a crocodile’s …).
Ladies and Gentlemen and “Others - whatever you are willing to address yourselves in this free world” of the forums, when is a character/faction development a complete one??? where the story has struggles, tragedies and impossible recoveries from the unthinkable and unbenign. That is what the Horde was build up on. They were almost completely decimated in Warcraft 1 and 2 due to their unfortunate and forced alliance with the legion (Yes, forced, they were tricked into the fel consumption and mal-influence perpetrated by Kil’Jaeden) and yet in Warcraft 3, their new warchief Thrall liberated the orcs and gave them new hope and life, even shamanism which they lost due to fel influence (again…tricked on them).
While we witnessed the Rise of the new and uncorrupted Horde in WC3, we also saw a major downfall of the mighty Alliance of Lorderon due to the Scourge and Legion which culminated in a united effort from both factions to drive off another possible Legion invasion.
Since then, the Horde have seen a series of events which put them in the wrong place at the wrong time for the wrong reasons and hence became an instrument of hatred for the Alliance. Garrosh’s invasion and subsequent destruction of Theramore and Sylvanas’s destruction of Teldrassil, gave the Horde a bad name, sure, but against all these adversities that came from within, the Horde still rose from the ashes and are now leading an expedition against the Primalists WITH the Alliance.
Compared to that, tell me one faction-oriented development of Alliance that has more depth, tragedies and impossible recoveries compared to the Horde? Apart from the rebuilding of Stormwind and maybe Teldrassil in the future (remember the night-fae seed filled with night-elven anima), I don’t see any instance where they rose against stark adversity like the Horde.
We of Horde are fighters to the very last!!! Even while we were misunderstood by the Alliance and attacked, we held on our own, we fought back and even beat sense to them at the same time, that they were simply generalizing. For me, it is beautiful and if story-tellers are biased, they are more towards the Horde as a matter of fact, in a good way!!!
Now, here come the trolls and sticks!!!
Your Horde is a bunch of idiots and peace mongers. The faster we dismantle the council the sooner we will return to our true purpose.
Yes…
Our Horde will tear you apart
Our Horde will burn you alive!!!
Our Horde will decimate you from existence!!!
The might of the Horde is rampaging and unstoppable!!!
For those who come in our way,
For those who disturb our way of life!!!
For those who disturb…
PEACE!!!
That is the Horde you should fear!!!
We fight fire with fire…The law of the jungle!!! Survival of the fittest!!!
Your Horde is just “destroy without provocation”…
Your Horde was defeated and dwindled into only the Burning Blade Clan by the end of Warcraft 2 (This was written by Metzen, btw)
The Horde you are talking about don’t even exist after Warcraft 2 unless maybe you are including the Fel Orcs that was again destroyed by OUR HORDE back during the Burning Crusade days!!!
Let’s face it!!! You already lost!!!
I’ve noticed more and more Blood Elf players are telling us what the Horde should be…even as a Blood Elf fan, I do laugh.
The Warcraft 2 Horde was the true Horde. the Ragtag group of hippies from Thrall are a bunch of weaklings serving their alliance masters.
Given how popular Blelves are it’s hardly surprising many opinionated players of various viewpoints use one. Also given that the Horde seems to have an identity crisis like every other expansion it’s not terribly surprising there are many who like different things.
Personally i’ve always found the “noble savage” concept an odd self-contradiction, which hurt the Horde to no end, especially when it comes to the thematic integrity and writing consistency, because they can never balance it and always overcorrect.
Your true horde served the Legion and became mindless fel-infused puppets, even after Orgrim’s reforms, you sucked so bad, that a weakling like Turalyon chased you all the way back to your hole in Blackrock Citadel with a half-broken sword!!!
Hahahaha…don’t make me laugh!!! Our Horde beat Admiral Daelin Proudmoore with relative ease, killed Mannoroth - one of the greatest Legion lords. Even the Iron Horde with the original warlords of the clans couldn’t even come close to our might!!! Most of Kalimdor - the biggest continent of Azeroth-belongs to us. We even drove out the Stormpikes from Alterac - this erstwhile human kingdom now belongs to the mighty Frostwolf Clan. We have wrested control of Ashenvale from the Kaldorei!!!
Cry all you can. For all your might, your Horde were slacking in internment camps until Thrall brought you back to your senses!!! Even your precious Orgrim was stabbed by a seasoned Alliance weakling of a knight!!! PEH!!! PITIFUL!!!
And how dare you accuse us of serving the Alliance!!! WE ARE THE HORDE!!! AND WE SERVE NO-ONE. We are free and will continue to fight for our freedom. And oh!!! your cat-fighting teams of non-existent imbecile replica of an army can’t even touch us!!!
Go away whelp, play with your imaginary high-horse toy!!!
