So since i came back to wow to check out BFA i could not figure out what class i want to play, i tested it all, and Monk was last to test and so far Monk is most fun i had out of all classes!
Glad to hear you found a class and you’re happy with it. I hope to get there someday, heh. I have this serious problem of hitting 120 and then grinding a new alt because I get bored.
Monk is underrated, imho, but I may be biased. I find it hard to settle on an alt because nothing else has that pinball-mobility. Shamans will beat your footspeed over the long haul in any environment, and mages and warriors can blink/leap where you cannot chi-torpedo, but monks feel faster in all the places that matter.
So far while leveling i saw maybe 3-4 Monks overall in dungeons, not many ppl play it, i find it really fun to play and will stick to it
I sometimes see monks while dungeon-levelling my shaman. Most seem to go dps, which is really odd because there are just no queues in other roles…
But there are definitely more paladins and warriors than anything else, to the point where a group with neither would seem very odd. Quite a lot of mages. Much fewer hunters, shamans and monks. Seen 1 DK since reaching the dungeons in which I might find them… Kind of tells me how FOTM classes are perceived to be right now
It is just…ppl tend to play best dps as fast as new patch come, which is all fine, but i prefer fun over dps/heal/tank.
I was in a group with a rogue (outlaw) he was lvl 99 i was 93 at the time, he was doing 150k on boss while i was doing around 80k but tbh i dont mind as long as i am having fun
Total agree. Also transcendence for cheeky tricks. Love using it to insta Los mob packs in dungeons. Monks are the only tank that can tank whilst totally avoiding being hit for a good portion of the pull due to their mobility and displacement tools. Super useful when it comes to nasty affixes or mobs. Your healer will thank you for it!
At the end of the day that’s all that matters. Y’know, I think this is why I didn’t enjoy monk - my levelling experience wasn’t that great. In dungeons I would struggle, because doing AoE damage isn’t a straightforward rotation on monk, and then there’s the energy starvation problem.
I was getting matched in dungeons with people who ran those damn addons that print everyone’s name and their dps to the chat log, and I’d get shamed when I didn’t perform well, and this was before even unlocking touch of death or any decent offensives.
I wish I was more like you and could have just enjoyed it without caring what people thought. I’d probably have a better opinion of monk if my experience making one wasn’t so full of gloom.
Having said that, a couple of days ago I decided to make another monk. This time round I’m just going to try and enjoy it, and care less about what the haters and elitists think.
So thank you, wise pandas.
Oh yes. My guild’s started having me leave a teleport point outside the boss room for a quick taunt-n-reset to save repair bills.
There’s probably in-encounter reasons to use it, but it’s rare I don’t have chi torpedo available…
I will barge my altoholic-casual behind here a bit to say what I dislike about monks and while I played my monk this expansion, the most, I’m not pleased with it.
Firstly is Brewmaster, I hate stagger on so many levels, I want to be this drunken brawler which I liked from Warcraft 3 times but I cannot do it. It’s good in raids and high M+, but it’s very healer dependent and it sucks outside instances. I dislike that windwalker has more survivability when pulling normal mobs than brewmaster. Also playing a DH and I want to say that I feel much better playing a vengeance DH than a Brewmaster. As an example, last timewalking I was pulling a lot of mobs with DH and my HP bar barely moved while I could barely survive as brewmaster. As a brewmaster I feel sorry for healers whenever they need to heal me.
Windwalker is great at times but it bores me after a while, yes it has the biggest rotation from all dps specs most likely, but it isn’t very complex. The only real variation is when Dance of Chi-ji procs, and I am a huge hater of procs in gameplay, the reason I abandoned my DK in Legion and probably while I will stop playing monk (if I manage to find something that will please me). Another downside of the WW monk is the weapons aesthetics, fist weapons partly visible, Legion artifacts mostly clip horrible through the ground or through the character, the attack stance is also awkward with artifact weapons (they look like they go through wrists) and 2-handers are unavailable due to Fists of Fury restriction.
Mistweaver is in a similar state as WW, in my view. I dislike the BfA version, not because I cannot run with Soothing mists, but because most important abilities depend on it and I also dislike the Vivify rework. Mana tea also seems disapointing to press comparing to the Legion counterpart.
So, I got that off my chest, congrats to those who enjoy monk.
