I was watching Firefly when I created this character. I wanted to use one of their swear word “goram”. It wouldn’t let me (maybe someone else had the same idea) So I took out an ‘o’ and shortened it to Gram.

Yep, I frequently use names based on words in other languages, also historical figures.
Generally like to go with “rare” names or hard-to-get ones. Generally have my characters name tied to their class. Aka Flower for my druid, Sea for my restoration shaman. and Boo for my rogue.
Self-explanatory.

i used to play the x-wing miniatures game from fantasy flight games and one of my favorite pilots to use was named “jake farrel” and its from there i got the name

Its a name that i thought was cool when i made my first ever toon 20 years ago in Diablo 2. Ive been using it ever since on every game ive ever played that required you to name your character. In short, its supposed to be a cool name thought out by 15 year old.

It was the name of the first server launched on another MMO game called Metin2 (also known as Longju) that I played in the past, after that I learned that it’s a naval term of Greek/Italian origin that means “on the trigger, ready to strike”.
I thought it would fit perfectly with Rogue so I name changed to it from my old name back then. After Void Elves are introduced in the game, I wanted to keep it as I thought it would fit especially better as a Void Elf and a Rogue.

Palivar is an almost mash-up of my real first and middle names. Paul + Ivar = Palivar
Timdog was a rapper from the bronx. I thought the name was/ is cool so I bit the name off him.

To answer the question tho, my friend showed me a WoW parody (which later inspired me to try WoW) and I gave my character the exact same name as the character in the parody. I’m really ashamed of the name now but I can’t change it yet.
I played on Argent Dawn from vanilla till Legion. When I made my char, I had to make a name without any wierd stuff in my name, and also sound elfish. All the names I could think of was taken, so yeah mine was random - with “ell” in the end to make it elfy 
Kinda liked though, so when I made this on Ravencrest, ofc she had to have that name too
