Hi.
With the recent sharding being back in Stormwind and me being in Boralus by chance I started wondering why i’ve never seen RP in Boralus. I remember at the start of BFA i saw the city for the first time and couldn’t wait for it to become a new RP capital. Why does noone go there? Is it sharded as well? I feel like it would be a great place for everyone.
It has seen use over the years but it seems to fade in and out, and even the most detrmined eventually vanish again only to return or be replaced some time later. It’s a great city though, and I can not recommend using it highly enough.
Exactly, I just think it’s too bad that people only really flock to Stormwind en masse and now that it’s sharded again there’s a lot of acting like it’s over for all of us just because Stormwind is less accessible now.
Boralus is genuinely one of if not the best city for RP, yet everyone just flocks to Stormwind.
For a long time Boralus had (or has) a lot of sharding problems.
I thought they got rid of it?
It’s the city that makes you go “damn I guess BFA was a great expansion after all”. Just a boat ride away, you know you want to…
…burn it to the ground?
I suppose the curse of sharding when it was current expansion made it never stick as a mainstay hub, since BFA is way behind us now, its better and despite being a boat ride or portal away, arguably shorter than duskwood which is also a hub, the place does not see the love it deserves.
Boralus is the city RP’ers want, plenty of open houses, hidden nooks and crannys, rich and poor areas, markets, a harbor district, moving ships, a barrack and prison, the works.
One of its three main drawbacks is likely the slums which is full of hostile npcs, I wish they would be removed or made neutral because they occupy a large area of the slums which is home to some pretty decent locations like bars, houses, shops and a shady night club.
The other drawback is likely the style of the city, its very dirt new england harbor town, great if you want grimdark or realistic down to earth RP, not so fantastical if you want dalaran high fantasy or classic medieval knights and princesses Stormwind.
The last one is the invasive BfA world quests and invasions.
its a bit annoying having to deal with horde invaders in the palace grounds or at the gates every few hours or so.
Boralus is also difficult to navigate when you are not flying and it lacks a central meeting place, like the cathedral in Stormwind. It’s a nice city, and I’ve RPed in it often enough, but I don’t find it -that- roleplay friendly. Unfortunately!
All the original and bc capital cities need major revamps, what else is new?
I believe that is the core of the issue.
Boralus is pretty much what roleplayers want out of a city.
big, varied areas, open houses (some without npcs), lively and so on.
but its not a very RP friendly city
I believe if they went back and redid stormwind with Boralus in mind, maintaining stormwinds varied and themed districts but expanded to the size and detail of boralus it might just be the perfect hub for alliance.
I think you hit a lot of nails on the head, but I would still argue that all these drawbacks are fairly minor compared to Stormwind’s, I find it a much more immersive rp experience mainly because most of the city’s districts aren’t overcrowded with OOCers and flying mounts on every inch of roof and sky, even the Tradewinds Market is mostly usable these days because people have little reason to go there other than to roleplay, and the questing experience mostly funnels players away from the city proper.
