that is a very sound advice .thx sinaaki
Only addons I use :
Elvui
Vuhdo for Healing (personally for me itâs better than the other addons and fully customisable)
Details
Bigwigs/DBM
Weakauraâs
Others I use for a limited time only and then I remove them.
Handy Notes
Rarescanner
TomTom
Anything else is personal choice but I believe you do not need more than those.
Various cosmetic ui addons.
Weak auras.
Details.
OmniCD
BigWigs.
Itâs worth mentioning that unless you make your own WeakAuras, you can find a whole load already premade here
DBM and thatâs it.
Iâve tried the various others and it just gives me a headache.
I am able to do M+ and Raids with just friends, though, so I donât need to worry about all this. I do just fine apparently. Although, VC communication is always helpful.
Thx i was wondering how to use weakauras .that clears that up
For healing, you have three general problems:
- Seeing who needs healing or dispelling. Universal issue.
- Tracking your own minor cooldowns so you know when you can press what. This is spec-dependant.
- Following the encounterâs timed mechanics (just get DBM, end of message).
You can legit solve problem 1 with the default party/raid frames. Use Edit Mode, move them to where you can see them easily but they donât get in the way. Set the options to use raid frame display in parties, class colours, power bars, etc.
I recommend getting the Big Debuffs addon because it makes things more visible and allows you to see additional heal over times on friendly targets (very relevant for resto druids).
A lot of people swear by VuhDo but honestly that thing needs so much setup that using it before you are established as a healer can be a barrier to entry and make you want to not bother. Just learn to heal a bit first, then decide whether you actually need more advanced party displays. You may find that you donât.
Problem 2 can be handled just by thoughtful planning of your UI in Edit Mode; move the action bars up closer to your character so you can see stuff without tracking your eyes to the bottom of the screen. Make important things bigger, ensure you have common spells on easy binds and long cooldowns can be banished to ctrl and alt bindings.
But itâs totally understandable if you donât want to drag your action bars around, because they absolutely will clog up your screen. There are abundant weakauras available for different healing specs and my advice is pick which class youâre working with first and then go explore a bit and find something that might work for you. Different people have different preferences, and thatâs ok.
For myself, I often end up writing custom weakauras for my healer specs because I can really tailor them to my needs, e.g. if there is a buff I forget to apply I can make something to nag me to use it. This is advanced stuff however; as with my thoughts on VuhDo - first learn to heal a bit. Then go deep into your UI when you start feeling like it isnât giving you enough information.
So my suggestoin is to start slow and add addons as you play. But beleive me you wont need them untill you start doing endgame. And by endgame I mean raiding above LFR level. Or doing M+ above 10.
But first get to level 70. Discover the game, learn at your own pace.
Once you are ready, I suggest to take the addon business slow. Dont install 30 addons and have a mess to configure because that will just confuse you even more.
MINIMUM Addons that IMO are required:
- DBM / Big wigs. I use Big Wigs. This addons serves to track boss abilities and it alerts you with sounds and countowns when are things happeneing/will happen in the future. VERY usefull.
Use the default configuration, all you need to change is where you want bars and countdowns to be. EZ to configure.
- For healers specifically: Heal bot / VooDuh. I use VooDuh. These serve to create a party frame, and allow you to click on the party frames (as oposed to the actual people on the screen) and cast stuff on them. All this can also be done via the Blizz interface, but it just takes much more effort to configure everything. These addons do it for you.
Its night and day to heal with those addons. I would say they are a requirement to healing basically. I would leave the default configuration at first. And then change the key-binds to suit your gameplay.
- Blizz default UI. Play arround with it to make it nice for you.
EXTRA:
-
Damage meeters to asses your performance. Details is the most popular one. Not really required, but nice to have.
-
Weak Auras: Allows you to have custom coundowns and other fancy stuff you download from the internet. Like tracking affixes or whatnot.
Everything else: discover that at your own pace. Not required, but you might find that 4-5 months from now you want them.
Bartender Grid2 and weakauras. You can also get bigwigs but frankly itâs becoming less relevant with every expac. For late endgame youâd rather use specialized weakauras than a bossmod anyway.
The four most important addons I use are WeakAura, Deadly Boss Mod, Plater, and Details. I could do without Details, but not without the first three. Plater with a good profile (I use âJundies - Season 3 M+ and Raid Platerâ) really enhances the gameplay experience for me.
There are other addons I use, but these are the core ones for me.
One tip I can give that will vastly improve your quality of life is to get an addon like VuhDo even if you donât play a healer, because you can still use it to cast spells on other party/raid members. For my shaman that means things like healing surge/chain heal, but it can also be used for utility spells like a dispel or a paladinâs Hand of Freedom.
I would forget about vuhdo or something and use clique. Very light weight addon that does not come with extra (party) frames. It only binds mouseovers on all unit frames.
My advice:
The less Addons the better.
I would recomment to not using addons while leveling your first time, except maybe Details.
IF you go to max lvl you need:
Details (DPS Meter)
If you want to get better:
Warcraftlogs-uploader
DBM (Tracking abilities)
Weakaura (for tracking)
Omni CD (CD tracking)
IF you are a tank:
Mythic dungeon tools (Making routes)
As healer:
One of the many healer-addons (Not a healer so only have Vuhdo in my head)
Rest is totally unnecessary.
I play with allmost no Addons for a long time now and doing quite well.
In fact, after I bought my new computer after the old one broke, I only use Details atm + I log my performance. And I sit at about 2950 M±score atm only pugging on one of the worst specs in M+ atm and I am still climbing.
When I tank I usually add Mythic Dungeon Tools to make my routes at the start of each season.

for PVP - GladiusEX (for party/opponent frames - vwery useful)
For all - Weakauras - customizable trackers for your class - you donât really need full screen of trackers, e.g. on my pala I only use WA for holy power but I have a full screen on my mage XD - on evoker I use for EM, prescience and shield only.
For healing - clique is the best for healing - donât bother with other stuff - intuitive, easy to setup and lightweight.
This will become second nature when you play a spec a lot and long enough.
I donât even have to check my holy words when playing a holy priest, I know when theyâre ready, though the tier set has messed with this a bit because it procs a free holy word for the healing ones. I know when the next cast of prayer of mending will give me apotheosis without having to track the buff stacks.
I even know blood DKs that donât even track their runes because they know when theyâre ready without having to track because theyâve played the spec so long and so much. I think thatâs pretty crazy.
