What are Mythic+ dungeons exactly?

Some backstory: I’ve played WoW 10-12 years ago and stopped around Cata / early MoP. Being more at home I thought I’d pick it up again to play it casually (started few months after Shadowlands release). A lot is familiar but some parts of the game confuse me or I just don’t understand them.

The largest of them being Mythic+. It’s so prominent in the game (or at least the UI) I feel like it is something that I should do. In the UI tab it says I need to start a group and do any of the listed dungeons on Mythic to get started. Fair enough. I’m still confused.

English is not my first language btw.

1.Is a Keystone an item that holds your level for that dungeon or all dungeons?
2. What is an ‘affix’?
3. Is the dungeon finder (premade groups) the best place to find a group to start?
4. Does for example +17 mean that someone has completed that dungeon 17 times?
5. Is the dungeon the same every time, just more HP bosses and harder hitting?
6. Should you focus on one dungeon or do more than one?
7. As for loot, are they the same (but higher level) than what drops from the normal/heroic version?
8. Is Valor something you should farm?

For me, as a returning player, this Mythic+ system seems like a really big timesink (even to find a group). And I’m not sure I would like to play the same dungeon 17 times (assuming that is what +17 means). Or even more if Valor is something that should be farmed. I guess I’m looking for the appeal of Mythic+.

Mythic + is a scaling dungeon system. A +3 is harder than a +2 and so on. It’s basically a way for people to challenge themselves until they hit a wall with regards to skill or gear.

This explains it really nicely and looks like it answers most of your questions. If anything isn’t clear after that feel free to ask.
