What are storm dragons?

So, recently I have gotten a serious curiosity about the dragonflights and titanic watchers. According to wow pedia there are major flights (the original ones, bronze, green, red, blue, black) then the lesser ones, namely; chromatic, infinite, netherwing, plagued, twilight and last but not least, storm.

Differences between none titanic blessed dragons and titan elevated ones tend to be that flights are expert at magics, can imbue mortals or objects with great power, they are quite sentient and smart, they can speak in draconic, they live really long, and last but not least they can assume mortal forms.

When I look at the storm dragons, specifically Thorignir I saw that they indeed live long, their matriarchs are the same dragons who pledged their loyalty to the keeepers, so that is quite a long time, they can use magic, lightning magic and can imbue items or people with magic, aka the player during the Stormheim questline. They are quite sentient as we saw and can actually speak in draconic.

We haven’t seen this happening before in lore, all the other lesser flights are descendants from the main five, twilight being nether dragon infused eggs, netherdragons being mutated black dragons.

So does that mean storm dragons can also shapeshift like other flights do? They certainly possess their magical capibilities, hell during the secret rogue artifact skin questline their matriarch recognizes the bindings of the windlord, and helps player conjure the windlord. Which prior to this something similar was only done by the infamous deathwing.

There are some some lines like; “Havi described the storm dragons as being “born of the gods”. Long ago, the Thorignir brood of storm dragons swore fealty to the titan keepers”
from wow pedia storm_drake page
Then there is also this
wow pedia Eonar_Drake which can be found in Elunaria and are classified as stormdrakes.

So my question is are they also blessed by the keepers? Like perhaps by Golganneth, to my knowledge he is the only one who hadn’t blessed a dragonkin. If not can they still shapeshift that is my key concern honestly, can they assume the guise of humanoids?

i dunno about blessed on the same level as the 5 because odyn him self was against the formation of the five in fact he threw a major fit about it could be they are simply similar to nalak the storm lord aka their artifical dragons

As true as that maybe I assumed it could be either A) A natural flight that might have emerged on their own or B) Odyn might have blessed them but use them as servants instead. Odyn was against the idea of dragons because he thought only the titan forged was worthy to defend Azeroth. That being said it is odd for him to make dragons a major part of his trials still.

Also cloud serpents even the thundering ones are a natural occurance and not artifically made, even Nalak the stormlord. He was found by Lei Shen from a clutch ^^

really his intro seem to imply that whats his name created him out of thin air

" When Lei Shen discovered a rare clutch of thundering cloud serpents, he was awed, and set to subjugating them. The largest hatchling fiercely resisted, and when Lei Shen visited the handling pens, he laughed mightily at the charred mogu that lined the walls. He took the hatchling for his own, and for its obedience, granted it power over the storms and the sky. For thousands of years following the death of the Thunder King, Nalak has guarded the walls of his hidden citadel, awaiting his return."

from wow pedia nalak, under adventurer’s guide ^^

Shan Bu performed a ritual that ressurected the dead nalak the stormlord which is why it appeared to me that he came out of thin air :stuck_out_tongue:

Honestly I just wish we had a lore gm team or something or like monthly Q&A for smaller bits of lore questions or something, it can get so confusing at times

You can try asking on twitter. I saw Danuser sometimes answering questions here and there.

Alternatively - maybe try to upstream a question via someone with bigger audience.

What’s the point when they don’t stick to one version of the lore and instead retcon it regularly every single patch?
