I cannot find this anywhere online. This is regarding Icecrown Citadel. My guild has done 11/12 HC, but would like to get in as much practice as possible on LK. He seems extremely difficult in comparison to the previous bosses.
Here’s the question: Do you have to kill all other bosses on heroic that week, in order to be able to get attempts on Lich King heroic? Or just the wing end bosses? Does Saurfang count in that? Can you kill everything on normal and ONLY do LK HC?
You need to kill every boss on HC to do LK on HC. It would be dumb to try to attempt HC LK without clearing on HC anyway since you absolutely need the upgrades and if you’re not clearing 11/12 in a pretty short time frame, your chances of killing LK HC are slim anyway, he’s much harder than anything else in the raid.
We want to practice LK HC on 10man, with as much time as possible. This will help our 25man, as we got absolutely crushed when we first tried it out last sunday. We will continue to clear 11/12 hc on 25man.
Ahh right, well yes you need to clear on HC. Btw, one of my guilds groups got crushed on 10man with 2x Shadowmourne last week, while their best attempt was on pace to beat the fastest kill on WCL by 30 seconds…
I turns out that you can’t just brute force with gear/dps and neglect mechanics, practice is important. Unfortunately you can’t practice it unless you clear on HC, not sure if that requirement is only for wing end bosses or the rest too, not willing to test that myself.
We’re in the same situation as you, limited time to play and a lot of stuff to work through before we can kill.
Depending on your 10 man comp this boss can be quite hard. “Easy Mode” is definitely a DK Tank (LK), Paladin Tank (adds), a Battle Res and a Holy Paladin (+ Disc).
The Holy Paladin probably being the most crucial part. We did it without one and P1 is unnecessarily hard then.
Those don’t feel optional. I’m sure it’s possible to kill it without a disc and hpal healing, but infest feels like crap to heal then and healing is already rough on that fight
The question wasn’t so much about what classes or whatnot to use. It was more along the lines of, what is required to even get him to spawn? Read plenty of places that you need to kill ALL previous bosses during that raid id for him to be able to spawn in on HC. Others say only wing end bosses (sindra, blood queen putricide and saurfang?).
We would like to do everything on normal, just to rush through and get as much time as possible in our 10man on LK HC. He seems freaking beastly on heroic. A huge step up and far beyond our current skill. Will take hours of practice!
Do you know what is required to get him to spawn in?
Unfortunately, I don’t have facts. But I’m pretty sure that you only need to kill the Wing End Bosses on heroic for him to spawn. Maybe double check on retail? I don’t know if it still works this way there, though.

I won’t post the link, since it’s an exploit forum, but I found this via Google from 2010: “Hard mode Lich King is supposed to require, Blood Queen, Putricide and Sindragosa kills on heroic mode to unlock, however, this is not the case.
If you kill these 3 on normal mode, take the teleporter to the Lich King’s platform, you can then set the mode to heroic, and face off against the hard mode version of the boss. […]”

I think so. Don’t try it. But I was rather referencing to the first sentence, where he states that you only need the Wing Bosses downwed for this. Same as on mmo-champion, where they say that you’ll only need to kill 3/12 on heroic to be able to engage LK (the 3 being the Wing Bosses).
In order to be deemed worthy to face the Lich King however, all three of these wings must be cleared. In addition, Professor Putricide, Blood Queen Lana’thel, and Sindragosa must also be defeated on heroic to face the Lich King on heroic mode.
if you had read what i actually wrote, you’d know my guild is already 11/12 HC in 10 and 25 man. We want to spend as much as possible of this weeks 10 man on LK HC though to aid our 25man, as he is a bnig step up from sindra and pp hc.
