What are the worst mistakes you made when you started playing WoW?

I remember when I played WoW for the first time, I couldn’t read English yet so I would be leveling at around 40+ spamming only rend on every mob wondering why 1 mob would always kill me. I think I spent a total of 12 full days to even get to 70

When i first started,my biggest mistake was usually signing up for dungeons as a tank using dps gear

Nice guild name btw…

Threw away or just didn’t loot grey items because “if they’re useless they won’t be worth anything”. Thank goodness it didn’t take too long before I realized the mistake.

i was a blonde blood elf, modeled after barbie for some reason

loved blood elves, but hated the decorations of the horde, especially orcs.

started hiting mobs with my staff instead of using spells

talked to the dead blood elf NPC as if its a actual player in need of help.

and these are the main mistakes i think.

Entering EPL through the Ghostlands port with a lvl20 mage.

I thought it would be a cakewalk…

Well it was. For the undead.

I died 8 times by when I managed to get to a safe place to hearth.

In 2005 i went to the barrens as levl 3 or something along with some fellow noobs I Met in the valley of trials.
We didn’t know mobs were higher level elsewhere and didn’t know what quests were for.

I needed an agility dagger while playing resto druid from WC dungeon.

The rouge got so mad. The rest of the party were noobs like me. They kept saying the druid can equip the dagger

I still feel sorry for that rouge

I recall randomly throwing points into all three trees as I didn’t know you were supposed to mainly stick to just the one to get to the top. I think I had about 15 points in each before someone told me how to spec properly.

In WotLK, Hunters still had minimum range. As a newbie I didn’t understand this and I was playing as melee the whole time, with miserable results.

There were so many mistakes I made in this character, during Vanilla, I don’t even remember them all …

  • Thinking this game was similar to Diablo 2 and spending silver buying white weapons from the vendor instead of waiting for the quest rewards with better stats. I didn’t even knew what green/blue gear was.
  • Attacking a sapped mob after the Rogue CC him in RFC.
  • Being indecisive between 2 neck rewards from a quest: Mana or AP. A guild member couldn’t even believe I was asking that. He stated:
“=S Ama ! Hunters need no brains, it’s AP ! because that will be present in every shot you do !”.
  • Not understanding as a Hunter what the same colleague that I spoke above (Tauren Hunter) was doing in Maraudon. Feign Death + Ice Trap. I thought he was dying so I resumed to attack the mob he was attacking. Needles to say he wasn’t happy at all.
  • Passing on every blue gear it dropped in WC because I wanted to be a nice guy. Only just to press need on everything later on the game because I thought coins were need and dices were greed. Needless to say I got in trouble in another WC run. Luckily I had 2 friends with me and the Protection Orc Warrior was doing worst than me, he was a ninja, the group disbanded afterwards
  • Going on melee mode during a WSG level 60 match instead of staying at distance and using my ranged weapon. Needles to say the NE Hunter I was attacking, just /rofl me. Tbf she had some pretty stiff armor she was firing on another Horde player and I wasn’t making any serious damage on her.
  • Thinking during a WSG match level 60 that the Troll Rogue was going to attack the Alliance player guarding the flag. I opened with arcane shot, right after he sapped him :scream:
He didn’t want to attack him, he wanted to sap him and steal the flag instead.
I got a angry whisper from him: “L2P FFS, don’t attack sap ones”.
    I said “Sorry”

Just a few examples.

Cheers.

This also confused me.
Greed sounded so negative so I went for need instead.

I had some problem grasping the concept of the 2 factions

Having conversations with the other factions never went as well, for some time I thought there was a joke or people were rude because I didn’t understand all the “lkj uyio jgy” I got back from players

I started playing WoW.

Trapped on Oribos. Decided to skip the content on an alt Survival Hunter Now I don’t have access to the maw or anywhere else. Meaning Shadowlands content is completely inaccessible on that character.

I decided to do a dungeon back in WoD times, solo, as a, tank without heirlooms during leveling. Was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Back in WOTLK I asked if I can take an intellect neck on my prot paladin that they wanted to DE, as mine was still blue and the epic one had more stamina on it. My guild lead told me that if I ever do something like that he will kick me out of the guild.

I would be pissed too if you called me a “rouge”.

I dont remeber worst mistakes when i started but i rememeber that when i first time ever reached endgame i was using for example stamina trinkets and more defensive / heal talent build because tought by other MMORPGs of that time IT was clear to me that if i have more health i will survive more on dungeons / raids. The concept of dps meters didnt come to my mind for couple of years untill like wolk / cata era.

Buying gametime

I got the epic blade from Sunken Temple on my Rogue and used it in my off-hand, still pisses me off today, leveling from that point on could have been so easy…

I seem to recall spending my hard earned silver on ‘white’ armour at the nelf coastal town… the one that got burnt to a crisp! Me and my friends didn’t realise the quality differences haha! Thinking back we were terrible at most things in classic classic… fond memories :ok_hand::ok_hand::ok_hand::ok_hand:
