What are you doing with all your resources/mats?

One of the most annoying parts of a new expansion is having to go through your bags and get rid of all the things you’re not going to need anymore.

It’s like moving to a new house, you look around, doesn’t seem like much but then it takes 3x longer to go through everything than you thought it would take.

I’ve spent hours going through things in my bank, destroying/selling items that will no longer be relevant. I could jump on the AH, but I don’t feel like spending an entire weekend going through everything seeing what is worth what.

I thought of putting everything in the Warband Bank, but what’s the point of putting it in there, if It’s all going to be mostly junk in a weeks time? I’m not really into crafting, but I’ve collected quite a bit of raw materials. I’ve also come to the realization that the warband bank effectively makes having a personal bank redundant and obsolete, if only they made additional tabs a bit cheaper so I could store everything there for the meantime until I figure out what to do with it.

The “cleaning up” makes me feel like there’s got to be a better way for Blizzard to help players get rid of excessive, useless, outdated materials because of a new expansion. I really don’t want to spend any game time having to dedicate just to sifting through old quest books/items that I won’t ever use again, especially as I take breaks from the game and when I come back I don’t remember what things were associated with anymore.

How do you deal with this conundrum? do you just sell it all off? do you store it in your bank like you’re going to use it again one day, even though you know you never will? are you too rich to care and bought all the tabs already in the warband bank and just have everything sitting there?

I just vendor it or delete it - done it last night in preparation for TWW, and netted myself about 2k gold from all the rubbish in my bags

The ideal solution would have been for them not to introduce so much bag filling junk in the last few expansions.
This items that need you to go find another item in order to make another item that needs you to find another item. But you’ll forget about it and this thing will stay in your bags for mounts.
So many materials, each with multiple ranks.

It’s just so much stuff.
I see crafting materials now say which expansion they’re from (unless that’s a AddOn doing that for me) they should have a separate tab in the Resource bank for each expansion. Make this account wide like warbank.

I would stuff it all into the Auction house for the 2 days, and if nothing sells. ill vendor it.

Simple algorithm for me:

  • If AllTheThings says it unlocks something I haven’t done, it goes in the Warbank, or Reagent bank, or regular bank, or guild bank.
  • Otherwise it goes to the Auction House if it either sells for more than 10x its vendor value or more than 100g
  • Otherwise it gets vendored or destroyed

Exception goes to farmable stuff. For example, I have lots of stuff to “unlock” with Serevite Ore, but I don’t maintain more than 1 stack of it.

I sold them all on AH about a month ago, knowing i wouldn’t need them. Made a pretty penny from it too. Id rather have a bit of extra gold for the new expansion, than a bank full of mats i wont ever use.

I sold stuff that haven’t been sold for weeks to the vendors, but reagents like herbs or the fire/frost/order and etc sells good.

I’m not entirely worried about losing any profit, got all my inventory & bank empty abd ready with TWW as I will soon ramp up gold production :+1:

I typically keep a full stack in reserve should I ever need them, be it enchanting heirlooms, crafting mogs, stuff for achievements, etc.

The excess I AH off or Vendor.

Good time to buy them all dirt cheap before prices start going up when less people are selling them.

I personally like cleaning up; have done it with all about 16 characters I’ve played this addon; took about three hours. They’re also all already stationed in Stormwind/Org with their HS moved there from Valdrakken.

Whatever I was able to put on the AH I did, and most was sold instantly, rest I destroyed (fortunately one can copy-paste the “DELETE”) and from the currencies I only cleaned up the dragonisles supplies to turn them to gold by buying boulders from the niffen.

It feels good to do a “spring cleaning” before a new expansion.

being that you can make 2k gold doing a few world Q’s within 15 mins, doesn’t make me feel a whole better spending all this time for a few k in gold, personally.

I’d pay gold to not have to do it, if there was a feature for it. Just to not have to waste my time doing it, when I could be doing something else for even more gold.

Don’t know how you can do it.
Personally I delete nothing - well, grey items sometimes, but you never know when you need something (yes, I’m a hoarder, thank god they’re just pixels on a screen)

Sold off the bulk on AH a while ago but kept some in my bank guild gbank for future craftings.

Vendor it all

I would do that, which would probably net a better payout, but I can’t stand the time it takes to do it with multiple alts, as well as the mail box filled with all the junk I was trying to get rid of anyway. It’s like just when I thought I have gotten rid of it, it came back to haunt me…kind of like an ex.

Sold most things in the AH and cried at how little you get for stuff due to it being the end of the expansion, the rest that didn’t sell just got sold to a vendor.

Playing the waiting game is annoying and every time I go to level a new character I realise I hate them early on.

My friend got the legendary last week and I’m like I bet you don’t pay much for the mats now :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

I ususally keep a little bit of old mats in reagent bank in case I need to revisit some crafting (and many times over years it proved smart but sometimes I’d be aware of deleting stuff I needed again xD)
Well, the rule of thumb = put in bank and if u lack space - sell on ah.
also - put it on ah a few times - things DO sell.
vendoring = waste of gold.
I almost never vendor anything.

Sacrifice them to The Old Ones!

For the first time in probably my entire wow-career, I’ve actually sold materials as I’ve gone along instead of hoarding them like I usually do.

Now… If I only could apply that same philosophy to all the other junk in my bags I carry around with me everywhere “just in case”

I roughly counted how much materials I will need for the last few gear crafts I want to do for my off-spec gear, and the rest I sold off months before the expansion release date was announced. At that time materials are still worth a decent sum of gold (around a million if not more) so I recommend keeping in mind what materials you have and consciously sell them as you are playing.

Keep yourself in the loop on what materials you may need for specific gear crafts, and outside of that just sell off the stuff that is not needed, which will keep your bank and your bags less cluttered and a hassle to clean up near the end of the expansion. It also earns you more gold in the process.

Sometimes it is even worth checking the AH for prices if you really want to earn some gold, as this is the time when people are so obsessed with selling their crafting materials that they sell them below Vendor value. That way, depending on the price you can actually earn money just buying up the stock and vendoring it away.
