Hello Argent Dawn!
Just one question for anyone reading; what are your favourite zones? It can be for the ambience, music, design, nostalgia. Curious to hear people’s thoughts.
I myself have managed to explore almost all of the Eastern Kingdoms, and I am now making my way through Kalimdor. I would have to say that so far, my favourite zones on each continent would have to be the Hinterlands of the Eastern Kingdoms, because I thought it was awesome having a massive troll city full of enemies on one end, and the glorious Aerie Peak on the other, with woodlands and an elven lodge in between.
On Kalimdor, though I am not yet finished, I do not think anything can surpass Ashenvale for me personally. It gives me Warcraft 3 nostalgia, and it is amazing to hear the night elven music play as you ride through a battle of sentinels and raiders.
Curious to hear your thoughts!
The Yakmaster

GOAT: Grizzly Hills
Pre-Cata: Barrens, Winterspring, Elwynn Forest, Duskwood.
Post Cata: Zuldazar, Kun-Lai Summit, Revendreth, Azure Span.
I will say that I think Vanilla zones and music are almost unbeatable.
Honorary mention to the Fel Hammer ( The Demon Hunter class hall ) which isn’t visually beautiful ( It’s an ugly green Legion spaceship ) but in the brief time I played Legion during pre-BfA it actually felt like HOME. Seeing dozens of people RPing there during the Illidari Summit was great.

It’s very late and explaining why I like these zones would require a long post, so I’ll just say that I tend towards forested and wintery zones as my favorites.
- Vanilla: Ashenvale, Feralas, Winterspring
- TBC: Azuremyst Isle
- Wrath: Grizzly Hills, Storm Peaks
- MoP: Jade Forest, Vale of Eternal Blossoms
- Legion: Val’sharah
- BfA: Tiragarde Sound
- Dragonflight: Azure Span, Emerald Dream/Amirdrassil

I have a deep and strange love for…
…Un’goro! Its always represented the extremes of the unknown, mysterious and dangerous to me ever since Vanilla!

Elwynn Forest and (Vanilla) Westfall will always have special place to me by being the first places I ever saw in WoW.
(Vanilla) Un´Goro and (Vanilla) Felwood because of random nostalgia from the time I first levelled there.
Eversong Woods because damn is that place beautiful.
Hellfire Peninsula, that place was just absurdly impressive to 15 years old me when I first saw it.
Zangarmarsh, it just has a vibe I really enjoy with all the blue.
Scholazar Basin, the sheer difference from other Northrend zones made it feel like such a great breath of fresh air.
(Cata) Western Plaguelands, it felt nice to see the zone progress and the first RP guild I´ve been in used Hearthglen as a base so it´s very nostalgic to me.
(Wod) Shadowmoon Valley probably for the same reasons as Zangarmarsh with the blue hue + it´s overall beautiful zone. But overall, whole Draenor looks amazing.
All of Broken Isles (Broken Shore doesn´t count) since Legion was my favorite expansion, so all these zones are instant nostalgia hit. And they also look really nice. It feels like WoW´s modern artstyle evolved in a way I can´t explain, which made WoD and Legion zones absolutely stunning for me, but anything after returned to the pre-WoD era where zones can be hit and miss for me.
Tiragarde Sound and Stormsong Valley are the classic “human forest/fields” theme but in HD, so I obviously love it.
Azure Span, it´s like all of Northrend mixed in one (Northrend-sized) zone and I love it.

Barrens for Vanilla, Netherstorm for TBC, Sholazar Basin for WotLK, Deepholm for Cata, Valley of the Four Winds in MoP, Shadowmoon Valley in WoD, Suramar in Legion, Drustvar in BfA, Ardenweald in SL, and the Azure Span in DF (Though the Emerald Dream might dethrone that one).
I’d probably say the Barrens is my overall favorite; even if I miss the original version of it, it still holds a special place in my heart. A huge amount of the reason is probably nostalgia, but I don’t really care.

There are many different great ones, of course. But for me Feralas will likely count as the best. It’s not just for how the zone looks, even if it does look quite good with it’s mystical forest aesthetic. It also comes down to novelty, as someone who mostly has roleplayed as a human in the Eastern Kingdoms these past soon two decades I went on a lengthy series of events in Kalimdor back in 2017.
Feralas has stood out to me ever since then. With the enclosing forest, the ancient ruins, and for me a highlight was being guided by a local sentinel player I had never met before to the side entrance of Dire Maul. Which I at the time did not know existed.
It’s been close to my heart ever since.

- Vanilla: Barrens (Kalimdor), Duskwood (Eastern Kingdoms)
- TBC: Hellfire Peninsula (Outland), Ghostlands (Azeroth)
- Wrath: Howling Fjord
- Cataclysm: Mount Hyjal
- MoP: Jade Forest
- Legion: Val’sharah
- BfA: Drustvar (Kul Tiras), Nazmir (Zandalar)
- Shadowlands: Maldraxxus
- Dragonflight: Waking Shores
Haven’t been subbed to see Amirdrassil but I’m an Elf Enjoyer so chances are it’d rank highly for me.

Tirisfal’s solemn beauty was soiled by BfA warfare and shadowlands phasing.

Dragonblight, it has so much going on - it has Horde (classic Horde and Taunka), Alliance (night elf camp and human fortress), scourge (classic zombies and nerubians), it has dragons, scarlets, tuskarr and I think there are also Argents around Wrathgate. It is large enough for all these things to not be squished together, but not large enough to be annyoing to travel through on the ground, the mob density also feels reasonable, it has some verticality but not too much, it’s also where I first RP’d.
Stranglethorn would be close second, it has Alliance and Horde, Steamwheedle cartel, Bloodsail bucanneers, Gurubashi trolls, Venture company, the mob density is quite annoying, but it’s where I first discovered PvP.
Honourable mention to Redgridge for finishing the bridge while every other zone was getting destroyed in cata. Sure some places like Sentinel Hill has been building some walls sure, but the bridge is simply iconic.

Hot take, but Vashj’ir. I lover underwater themes and the fact we actually had swimming mechanics was enjoyable for me.
Naz’tajar is a close 2nd.

Hellfire Peninsula has this special aesthetic that I can’t help but love, even if it isn’t terribly “fun” to be play through. The environment and the music all come together really nicely. Much of Outland really, it has this mysterious, desolate vibe to it.

Teldrassil was the first zone I was in, when I started playing WoW in 2005 - so it has always been special to me, even though its uh. “Inaccessible” now.
