We see in the BfA cinematic when he comes to the realisation he sucks as a warrior and then uses his priestly powers to do a mass heal.
Lore logic would suggest pally but that’s not they way Blizzard have gone. While paladin is a holy warrior it’s a very narrow criteria. I think it’s more he’s the commander so should be on the front-line with his ‘men’ but wearing robes would be suicidal.

Also, her encounter in Blackrock Depths uses Priest spells, and she is eventually replaced by a “High Priestess of Thaurissan” with the same role and spells.
