The important part is “why” - share your thoughts, ideas, suggestions - why you’re gonna pick that or that covenant for your mage.
So, I’m PROBABLY gonna go with the venthyr after all. I like that soulbind that reduces time on being locked out after a kick… mirrors of torment, even if dispellable, might be pretty OP in PvP so… I like it. Doors of Shadows seem useful too, since mage’s mobility is gonna be gutted with shimmer nerf.
Depends what spec i end up choosing.
Either way, ill want one thats can benefit in both PVE and PVP,
so that means not Venthyr. its rly strong in pvp, but kinda useless in pve, at least in its current state.
if ill go fire or frost, most likely Kyrian.
Radiant speak seems the most solid choice.
if arcane, Kyrian or Necrolord, probably Necrolord. i like the skeletal mage effect, and the cleave sounds great for arcane. the 3m cooldown is kind of bummer, its very long and dosnt sync with arcane power. hope they change it. maybe make it 2m cooldown and 15s duration instead of 20.
Night Fae seems useless for all specs in my opion.
Probably ventyr, since my main content is PvP.
Root + silence on shadow school + a bonus teleport and bonus haste proc + passive kick duration reduction…just seems too good to pass for arcane.
Kyrian is probably the second option with Radiant Spark being so consistently good and the potion to remove bleeds and stuff, but Spark is on the arcane school, so that’s not very appealing.
i really love frost with glacial spike in pve and new arcane and fire in pvp, will do both content.
So i cant take necrolord, its only usefull for arcane in m+ and maybe in raids on some bosses with multiple adds, and its completly usless in pvp.
Venthyr, like Vindy already said have interrupt reduction and 2 shadow school abilities for pvp, so its really best choice, but blizzard made it completly useless for pve compared to others, so i cant take it for both content.
Nightfae one, - first of all it have a stun in conduilt for a duels on 1.5 min cd 5 sec duration that mage lacks, good addition mobility ability with soulshift, shifting powers abilitie with half of a channel in conduits(3sec channel instead of 6) can be really good on aoe in m+< blizzard even upgraded its dmg with good numbers, plus its really well synergy with frost or arcane aoe, on pvp its on a nature school and with 3sec channel its can be used on arenas but channel is to long even halfed, maybe its gonna be good in duels, sheep - reset some cds and open, will give you blink that back wich can be on a 10sec cd without shifting powers and gives you 15% shield, so overall it can be usefull in both content, but fall behind on arenas.
Kyrian, so nothing to say after blizz making pots from owl uniq its the only stable choice for all specs and content and only downside is for pvp if you playing arcane its the same school, but ziqo already show how to cast it with double invisibility and you will not be interrupted.
So overall id say i will go Kyrian, they even have good soulbinds with decent choices, 2nd good option for me its nightfae because of the combo you can make in pve and duels, but its really fall behind on arenas.
i think shifting powers will be tricky to use in arenas especially with 6 sec channel (whithout 3sec channel reduction on conduits) , nightfae stun will be working in arena but its 1.5 min cd that you need to use pre combat, in duels its possible, if you can reset in arena its possible too but more complicated
I’m gonna roll with mirrors early on and see how its goes. Its bis for raid when paired with the conduit, I think that should transfer to dungeon bosses and the new seasonal affix in m+.
I hope change the venthir one to 10secs, that way it would line up better with touch of the magi and the fire mage sun king leggo. O and mirrors to mobs attempting to cast too please.
Oooh I completely forgot about this one…I want a stun so badly!
So I took another look over all the soulbinds and I’m not quite sure which to pick anymore for PvP at least(talking arcane mostly).
The best things imo are:
Kyrian
Phial of Serenity just seems insane for survivability.
Radiant Spark is short CD, good damage, but it’s on arcane school and might add a bit too much ramp up to our big burst.
Mikanikos soulbind - Phial of Serenity aoe knockback, aoe 3sec stun when you drop below 35% hp, stacking haste.
Kleia soulbind - Phial 15sec immunity to most negative effects after use, bunch of selfhealing.
Pelagos - Phial healing for 50% hp over 10sec.
Necrolord
Overall just seems bad for pvp, most soulbind traits are whatever, Deathborne sucks, Fleshcraft is decent.
Ultimate Form from Marileth, that makes you immune to CC while channeling Fleshcraft can be really good, but that’s about it.
Night Fae
Soothing Voice from Dreamweaver soulbind seems broken, having 90% decaying slow for 2sec after every Polymorph or root.
Korayn’s Soulshape 5sec stun sounds super nice, considering we don’t have stuns. Hopefully it’s not reduced duration in PvP, since the stun is on GCD.
Also gives 10% bonus damage to targets above 75% hp.
Soulshape seems decent, sadly it seems to be on GCD(both activation and blink). Shifting Power just seems bad.
Ventyr
Nadjia still seems the best offensive soulbind. 20% haste proc, 25% interrupt reduction, 3sec aoe disorient on door of shadows and 3 potency conduit slots.
Theotar is also really solid, if you want a little bit of defense and you also get 10% versa for 10sec, whenever you cast Mirrors of Torment.
Draven is kinda crappy, unless you want to go full tank mode.
Mirrors of Torment is arguably the best and Door of Shadows is quite good, especially being on the shadow school.
Sooooo, overall i’d say…if mage is tanky enough, then Ventyr is probably gonna be best, if nottttttt, then probably Kyrian. And then we also have Night Fae for duels, wpvp or one shot cheesy specs.
