So despite how World Quests for gear is somewhat nullified atm by Benthic gear and the AV event for freshly capped character - I suddenly tok note of something that had me google around for a while without any answers being yielded; So here I am to see if someone on these forums knows the answer to this question.
What exactly dictates the 5 ilevel increment increases on World Quest gear?
I tok note of a trinket from a current WQ which is ilvl 390 on my main - I then started jumping between my characters and got to a point where the same trinket was ilvl 390 for my 385.06 ilvl geared Monk but the same trinket was ilvl 385 for my 384.69 ilvl mage. So I went out; did 2 world quests and got some 385 Azerite pieces that I could bump to 390 and the following happened:
Replacing one Azerite piece bumped my mage up to ilvl 385.00 - But the trinket from the World quest was still 385. Putting on the second Azerite piece I pumped up too ilvl 385.31 - Going PAST my 385.06 Monk; But still the trinket remained at item level 385. So what gives? What is it that decides item level increases for world quest gear if it’s not item level?
PS: I have seen the same WQ item increase in item level on the spot just yesterday; I capped one of my allied races, slapped a bunch of Benthic gear onto him and all World quests for gear I had shot up in item levels on the fly; So it’s not like that should be a explanation.
Yes I have also for fun tried to re-logg; But no, This trinket is still 390 for my 385.06 geared Monk but 385 for my 385.31 Mage - Does anyone know at that what decides when / why world quest gear increases in item level?
I have had lower ilevel character get better items than higher ilevel character. But oddly enough when lower ilevel character does a M+ run and comes out of dungeon the emissary reward is ‘higher’. I have had quite some time to ‘experiment’ with my 20+ characters. And sometimes it really is that a 5 ilevel higher character gets lower items. Just because the other character has done more dungeons.
I haven’t been able to figure it out myself. I also have noticed that some characters with higher ilvl get lower ilvl rewards that some characters with lower ilvl. I haven’t found any logic on it.
I don’t do any dungeons and i still got the same strange ilvl fluctuation so i don’t think dungeons have anything to do with it.
hum. Mystery deepens. I do not want to believe in it is just random’ It cannot be. I know some people have said its about the small hidden numbers. but 5 or more ilevel difference is not hidden number. It is clear number you can see that character X has higher ilevel and should get at very least same rewards, burt its definitely not always the case.
I have even pondered if its ‘quests done’ or is it something X. But … Blizzard.
I have also noticed that it’s not a set ilvl that makes the gear reward jump up. I can be 393 on one character and it gives me the next reward up from an emissary and others are still stuck with one lower.
Some have suggested it is affected by anything you carry in your bags too ilvl wise, but i don’t carry alternative items in my bags and still get the weird issue. Some have also suggested it looks ilvl of single items related to reward, but i remember when we got emissary rewards upgraded and Radium was constantly given lower rewards than general ilvl AND lower than any item on those slots that rewards where for and i had to raise general ilvl signifantly to get emissary rewards higher, when some alt was getting higher ones on much lower ilvl and also much worse single items.
Isnt it combination of your ilvl and that one item?
For example if u have monk at 390ilvl bud he got 350ilvl wep his WQ wep reward would be lower than on yoir warrior with 390ilvl and 395ilvl wep… And so on, at least thats what applies to azerite pieces
Not on my experience. I have had characters with much worse ilvl and single item ilvl (same than reward item) being offered higher rewards than some other characters. Like this:
The ilevel is determined when the world quest spawns. If you increase your ilevel it will count for quests that spawn after the increase.
There’s also some variance of quest quality: you can get normal quests and rare quests but they dont seem to correspond to an increase in rewards. The logic of World Quests rewards have been a mystery since they were introduced in Legion.
No. No it is not. What may be is that you have display on map showing ‘spawned ilevel’, but when you go on location you see that reward is increaed. This may also be add-on display issue.
Ah, I was not sure if it is same in vanilla. But for example you can do reloadui or (least with addon) mouseover and you see updated tooltips if it has not updated on the list (but vanilla does not have list so :P) . I have had instant updates and have had ‘delay in display’.
So definitely both wq and emissary rewards update ‘real time’ if your character should get ilevel boost.
This bothers me, too. How can it be with all the fandom content for this game that I cannot find a table that describes when the ilvl jumps will occur? I’d imagine this is very important especially to people very devoted to gearing up.
I could only use samples from my own experiences, but I didn’t write them down.
Right now I had an emissary jump from 390 to 405 once my char’s maximum ilvl reached … 384 I think, or 384.5.
It’s all be consolidated into one wiki, WoWHead and MMO champ. WoW Head seems to be the only one that’s updated regularly. You can be waiting days for MMO Champ to be updated.
I remember when I resumed playing after a long break in April, when hitting 120, my wife would constantly get better WQ rewards than me to the point that we had a gap of almost 15 ilvl despite having done exactly the same content without a single exception (same wq, same emissary, same dungeons etc)
I was able to do a test right now, on my mistweaver monk alt, and the attached anecdote contains a message to you.
I have a 415 mainhand and a 410 belt with leech, and everything else was below, many slots way below. I was farming azerite from WQs to raise my item level bit by bit and used all my manapearls to upgrade my benthic gear and that was just enough to trigger a warfront emissary jump. 402 didn’t do it, 402.56 didn’t do it, even after relogging. Only when I barely managed to reach exactly 403.00 and then relogged, the emissary had switched, but not from 405 to 415 as anticipated, but merely to 410.
So I fly all the way to the harbor to that stupid war cow and get my emissary reward and IT’S A FRICKIN’ BELT!!!
(Talk about a waist!)
