I always playe a retpaladin so i start there.
I start whit what i dont like. First of all i dont like that they playe on the twisting instead of coming up whit some that works for slow 2h. First i liked the idee of schokadin but it all went wrong.
Now to what i did like and first of all i say i liked the faster 2h playestyle whit exorsism. I also liked that we got crusader strike in the start so we had some moves and that we also got devine storm.
The way they did got whit healer, dps and tank set and build more on holy damage was a big + for me.
I also played priest and mostly for the possebilety to playe smite priest and in the begining when we got penence i was realy ecited and thoght this will be fun but it newer took of. They later aded about 35% of the healing as damage on tier sets but it was to small and there was no bonus for holy damage.
So i played shadow for a while and just to get the aoe was a big change .
So if we get a classic+ I would like to see the faster 2h paladins again and make exorsiscm work on all. They should still use 3 types of tier sets. If they ceep slow 2h origonal style they need to make sure we cant twist.
For priest i was satisfied whit geting a aoe as shadow. If they want to suport smite they need to do a few fixes. change place whit force of will in dic tree whit spiritual healing in holy tree. And they need to remove light well in holy tree and change it to a lightform instead. What we need is a crit multiplier and lower manacost.
I legitimately, unironically don’t think they did anything right with Holy Paladins.
From being literally forgotten about for P1 itemisation, to hitting level 60 with a total of 3 dedicated Holy Runes (out of 28) prior to the P4 overhaul. From the minimum effort copy-pastes of the WotLK and Cataclysm kits, to the abomination that was Divine Light’s initial debut and the subsequent nerfs that followed.
Our sets have all been uninspiring, ranging from mediocre at best to downright detrimental at worst. When other specs were theorycrafting optimal shoulder enchant setups, we were choosing between a stealth-nerfed 6pc T1 and 2% crit.
The closest that the SoD team has managed to come to giving us anything even remotely interesting was with our T2 (which came at the expense of “traditional” Holy and also got us nerfed further). A melee battle healer could have been cool had it actually been iterated upon - we spent 3 phases with more empty potential Rune slots than Runes engraved, why not use those instead of a one-off set bonus?
SoD Holy Paladin was the first time in nearly 20 years where I felt like I had objectively picked “wrong”, and this is a company that gutted a spec back in Warlords of Draenor under the pretense of “because we’d rather you didn’t play” it.
i wish they took more risk. most is just… wotlk stuff,. They’ve been really lazy with some class, just added wotlk spells or talent.
Let’s not talk about how lazy most runes are
Affli in general feels bad to play, no way to spread dots, on most fight boss or trash die so quickly there’s no need for dots, so you just end up spamming shadowbolt. If you have no haste, shadowbolt is 2.5s cast, if the target die before the cast end, welp, here we go again.
They ended up nerfing shadowbolt volley by 25% idk why it was not even strong, still they gave us no alternative, which sucks because as affli we don’t want to spam shadowbolt volley, we want to spread dots.
They just don’t understand how affli is supposed to be played.
What they did right:
The sense of adventure… for phases 1 and 2. When we all adventurered out not knowing what we would find, working together and discussing in general chat to find new runes etc.
Phased levelling… we have all done the 1-60 grind many times by now - the phased levelling broke this up a bit and gave slower levellers a chance to keep up.
Levelling raids… honestly, BFD and Gnomer were great fun (even if the lack of fixes to the gnomer raid annoyed me)
New challenges… the difficulties for lvl 60 MC and BWL were spot on. The more casual raiders were able to go through raids at their own pace while the more hardcore raiders had their own modes. My guild mostly did standard modes and as the phase went on, eventuallt cleared the higher difficulties too! It kept the phase feeling rewarding even after that initial clear.
What was ok (or hit and miss):
The new abilities… some were great, some were meh. Some were balanaced, some were all over the place.
Sunken Temple: the worst of the 3 levelling raids but still relatively fun… for the first few runs.
What was bad:
Releasing fresh halfway through SoD
Blizzards handling of some of the bugs and issues.
The repeatable nightmare quests.
Lack of new zones and followable storylines.
Things hinted at that never happened.
I played a resto druid which was amazing fun till 60 and quickly got overshadowed by disc priests. Massively.
I hate what they did to Hunter as a whole.
BM should be ranged pet-centered
MM should be ranged turret
Survival should be melee and traps
It’s been like this for 15 years and it should have stayed the same in SoD. Why try to reinvent the wheel? Also why make the entire BM spec non-viable for the whole season?
I actually love the twist paladin playstyle, i’ve pretty much played ret in most of the expansions cuz I love their style but now when I play other versions (other than retail which is also insanely fun) I just find it meh…
Twisting hit the nail on the head in SoD, I know there is MAJOR uproar about how OP they are in PvP, but i’m on PvE server so doesnt bother me.
If SoD is genuinely a testing ground for a Classic + in the future, id love them to keep the Seal Twist paladin, and just tweak the damage numbers on the ability to bring it all in line with the other classes.
The Rhythm playstyle is just so good compared to most other rotations in SoD, the only one that I think would be similar is the trap hunter at a guess. Which is also insanely enjoyable.
Prot Pally is also good, I wish the taunt wasnt melee range though (and this goes for all tanks tbh) Having something like the Grand Crusader from retail would also be good, As i love throwing the shield, having it on such a long CD is meh.
Holy Paladin i do believe has had it the worst… I just dunno what is going on with their tier sets, they seem horrific, ive seen multiple suggestions from Holy paladins that all make it fun to play but instead they have random stuff that no one really cares for.
All in all, i have really enjoyed SoD, just feels bad that it looks to be tuning down for an end soon.
Seal twising is one of the worst things to ever exist in wow. It never should have been implemented in SoD.
I still think twisting must go and instead change Seal of comand to be able to proc more than 7 times per min.
I forgot one thing in my other post and it felt good to not be mana starved all the time as ret.
What is it about seal twisting you don’t like?
Only paladins on the forums crying I see why there is a buff each phase to ur class
I also thought this… i tried to come up with something i liked about warrior, but after being left in the dirt for 8 phases straight i cant.
Well making hybrids too powerful diminished rogue’s niche as dps.
Also rogue tank - while improved , needs better aoe threat, i.e. doubling threat of FoK and halving energy cost to what it is now.
Ii agree with all the 10k armor 8khp hybrids walking around and 1 shotting you with 1 cast or instant meanwhile having defensives and a heal makes rougues prob one of the worst classes for pvp now
There are two things i dont like whit it. One is that the foult that alowes it makes so a change that are made to retpaladins can be absurd just becous some are good enuf to playe whit a 0,4 sec window. If twisting window was bigger i defenetly thing you could have it. Now whit the small window its to hard for most people to acctuly succed to use it propperly.
The second problem i have whit it is that you must have a adon to be able to use it.
When a bugg or what ever you call it is whats makes it or breakes it for a class its not some i promote.
I liked the fast 2h style from SoD and being able to use exorcism and how it worked in SoD.
