I would like to transfer my characters to another realm, but before I do that I would like to ask, do I need to do anything before I pay it and click the button? Things like in-game gold, items, addons, setups, etc.?
Never did this before so I want to be sure to not lose something in the process.

There are a few things that people come back about.
Are you absolutely sure you do want to move to this new realm? People do transfer and then find they made a mistake - perhaps the language spoken in Trade, or the faction balance, or whatever.
Name. Is your character’s name already taken on your new realm? The only way to know for sure is to make a new character on that realm with the name to see that it’s available. Then delete that character just before transferring.
Guild. You need to leave your guild before transferring.
Auctions and Mail. You cannot transfer a character if it has pending Auctions or uncollected Mail, so finish those before transferring.
Gold. There is a limit on the amount of gold you can transfer with your character, depending on character level. Are you within it?
P.S. 1: Addons are, in principle, not affected. However, their saved settings are stored by character, like /draenor/Sekhan. So addons like Altoholic, that store information for multiple characters, will regenerate thir information when you log in to the new character on the new realm. It’s not a problem.
P.S. 2: You said “characterS”. Levelling characters is very fast these days. Do consider the option of levelling new characters rather than paying for a transfer. It’s your choice, of course, but honestly, for myself, I wouldn’t consider transferring any character up to a fresh 60, or any character I am not epecially fond of.

It’s also worth checking the economies on both realms. If they’re comparable or your realm is more expensive then you can leave things as it is, but if for example your current realm had significantly cheaper consumables than the other, it’s a good idea to buy out a plenty of them with your saved up gold and selling them on the new realm. When moving to AD back at the start of BfA, I nearly doubled my gold this way.
If I am not mistaken, you can not have any unlearned mount in your bags during realm transfer.
You moved to Argent Dawn? From which realm did you move and how’s your experience there so far?
