What does critical strike do?

Is it increasing critical strike DAMAGE or critical strike HIT CHANCE? I think they need to change the tooltip to be more specific and not just say “chance for extra effectiveness”, it’s too vague.

I don’t like crit as a stat. RNG is never fun. I’d rather have it removed and replaced with something else.

It increases the frequency. The frequency (before talents modifying a particular ability) is the one stated on the right side of the tooltip.

Does that mean hit chance?

What?

In WoW you have a 100% chance to hit now.

It lists the chance that a spell that you use will do additional damage, also called a critical strike.

So hit chance then, thank you.

Also in games there is usually at least 2 critical strike stats, damage and hit chance. So let’s say critical strike damage was at 200% and you had 30% critical strike that would mean you now do 230% damage instead of 200%. For hit chance let’s say we had base 10% hit chance that means you have a 10% chance to do a critical strike and now you have 30% critical strike so that would mean you have a 40% chance to hit a crit instead of 10%, that’s why it’s important for games to specify. I hope this helped you understand what I meant.

Critical strike damage in this game is fixed unless amplified by talents or anything similar.

I didn’t know that and that’s why I think they should change the tooltip to specify.

Variety is the spice of life!

this is complete BS. with 30% crit, if you cast 10 frostbolts, on average, 3 of them will do additional damage (twice as much). In wow, the chance to hit is 100%. Chance to critically hit for bonus damage is equal to your crit rating.

Additionally, there is very few and far between items/talents that increase your crit damage bonus, and usually by extremely meager amount, such as 2% from the flask or talent.

Games like FFXIV, the crit rating increases the frequency AND damage dealt. In wow, it doesn’t work that way.

Dunno, in our localisation we have crit chance and crit damage. If you mean secondary stat - it’s chance, not value of damage.

Not needed. The strike does have extra effectiveness as the output is doubled. Critical Strike is such an old term in gaming by now that it doesnt need any explanation. Plus someone can figure out what a crit is very quickly especially with the base UI which spams you with all sorts of damage and healing numbers.

And abilities or talents etc will tell you if they amplify the crit damage such as Destro Locks chaos bolt.

it pretty much increases the chance that any ability you do becomes a crit ability that deals 200% of the damage (so double of the normal value)
Some abilities such as Chaos bolts get increased crit damage instead but that is said on the spell itself.

How is it bs? It’s an example of 2 crit stats in games I wasn’t talking about wow.

In an ideal world the game would be designed so that you could pick your playstyle and acquire gear with stats to aid in this.
So you could play a slower 2 Handed style were doing Crits would have more impact.
Or you could play a faster 1 Handed style were you did a lot of weaker hits and Haste would be better.

Although wow isn’t great at such character building. Partly due to the game designers but partly due to the players only playing ultra optimised min-maxed to the Nth degree specs. If the slow 2 handed play did 1 dps per hour less it would be ignored in favour of the faster 1 handed play.
