Yes. And that’s mostly thanks to 2 expansions in a row with MAJOR issues. The second of those expansions (Shadowlands, to be clear) having a horrible patch/content cadence and during the same time the company behind it having some very public legal issues come to light.
THAT is why the sub count is low. Blizzard has to rebuild trust.
And they’re doing it by releasing an expansion that’s going back to basics and building new evergreen systems so the game is being made with the long-term in mind, instead of the short term as the previous expansions have been.
How exactly is that going back to basics? Dragons are an old concept, both in Warcraft and fantasy, but the way they’re depicted this time? Lol. Shallow, obnoxious, hmm whimsical.
That’s not going back to the basics.
We went back to the basics with BfA too. Back to the faction war! Back to Warcraft 1! Orcs vs humans!
I’m not a fan of that either, despite it being a concept that I am interested in simply because Blizzard’s writing is straight up, garbage.
Well, go figure; they’re depicated as having flaws and personalities… How weird?!
They are not perfect beings. Never have been. They’re just no longer ‘basically all the same character’ which a lot of dragons suffer from in a vast range of fantasy games and/or literature.
Yes it is. It’s just incorporating some actual development into it and not having the same old tropes in there. That’s refreshing, while still going back to basics.
Yeah and see how that worked out… That expansion was bad.
Then quit. Stop being negative and just quit.
What does all this whining and complaining accomplish?!
You’re ruining the fun of those who DO enjoy this expansion.
But like I said earlier…
They’re depicted as being immature, sassy, obnoxious. It’s like they all have a Twitter account.
Dragons are old mythological beings that obviously had some wisdom because they’re ancient creatures. Which is why a lot of them had no interest in mortal affairs and were very, very selfish.
It doesn’t add up.
You really think it’s refreshing to write the expansion like a children’s show?
Yeah because it went back to the basics.
How do I ruin the fun of you? Does it bother you that I’m criticising the expansion?
Maybe one or two or three are. But definitely not all.
That’s just complete hyperbole.
Pffff. Yeah, look how ‘wise’ night elves are. Come on dude…
They’re flawed. Just like all sentient beings. It’s realistic and refreshing to see imo.
It does, actually. You just don’t like it.
And that’s fine in and of itself. But let those who DO like it, enjoy it.
Well, I don’t think that’s what they’ve done. So there’s that.
I think you’re just upset and trying to use hyperbole to make it sound way worse than it actually is.
No. Because it focussed on the one thing that’s just become very, very tired in WoW.
The neverending dumb hostility between horde and alliance.
It has to stop. There has to be peace, because there’s a threat of a FAR bigger war that will wipe both factions from existence if they don’t combine forces.
If you did it once or twice, no.
But you, and people like you, keep on doing it. With new threads about basically the same things over and over and over. So yes… That bothers me.
sigh. not every expansion needs to be that this is a chill expedition to the dragon isles thats all it needs to be. the faction war is over like completley and as much as certain people claim the evil horde will start it again they wont because of the new council and no longer having a sinigular leader who can pursue their own agenda

When I see this story of the primalists in Dragonflight, I think back to vanilla, which was full of aggressive elementals. I would think this is a connection that has been drawn by the writers. They did point out that it is getting harder to create villains, and that they have to build new ones. I do feel that the primalists is just a thread picked up from the original game and built up on. I might be wrong.
I agree with your points, but wether we wanted it or not we stepped into a war with the cabal on mars… Blizzard decided World of Warcraft is meant to be “more kids friendly” in hope their stylized adult MMORPG becomes a new Fortnite trend.
Oh, every time I read people complaining about lack of conflict, reminds me of Legion
We all know what came after Legion: BFA.
Steve Danuser stated this in a interview:
“The aftermath of a war is always messy. Expect repercussions from the Fourth War to carry forward for a long, long time.”
This isn’t over yet and anyone that believes that DF is anything to be considered for the future is as naive as I was during Legion.
Remember this scene ?
Before we had this ?
Too much was left boiling after BFA.
Princess Talanji still hasn’t forgotten about Jaina. She was there when King Rastakhan got killed.
Genn Greymane still hates the Horde he made it perfectly clear when he was talking with Lor’themar Theron.
Anduin is still absent and Turalyon is not as forgiving as he was.
Overlord Geya’rah, supported the increasingly hostile actions of Sylvanas Windrunner during the Fourth War.
From: https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Geya%27rah
She’s still on the Horde.
There’s more but those were just a few examples.
Too much was done during BFA.
If anything any chance of peace during Legion was burned to the ground.
2 expansions have passed after BFA.
2 expansions passed after MoP and we had BFA.
After Garrosh we had Sylvanas.
The question now is: who’s next on the chopping board ?
Remember all it took to start a full scale War in BFA, was a meeting between Saurfang and Sylvanas.
And make it seem as if everyone feels this way?
I can’t do that. I have to defend what I stand for or the game could be ruined AGAIN by a very vocal minority.
Dragonflight is a vibrant “healing” expansion, like MoP Edit: I was wrong MoP is war and hell
A break from the constant strife of the last 8 years.
I do not know about others but I was getting tired of the faction conflict subplot being stretched over like butter over too much bread.
Nations have always reasons to not have perfect relations but at least let them be about some actual geopolitics instead of the personal grudges and agendas of a few high ranked officials.
And a big bad feeding lies and manipulating everything from the Maw.
I personally just want this horde/alliance conflict over with. It’s boring. It’s not realistic anymore. This world/universe either needs to evolve (with horde and alliance joining forces) or there needs to be some kind of big reset button on all of it. Because with all that’s been revealed on a cosmic scale, it just doesn’t make sense to keep fighting these petty squabbles.
