I’m finding it very alt friendly. Renown is easy to catch up on or just allow it to sort of naturally progress as I play the alts and I can say the same for Torghast. Gear is easy to either craft or buy from AH and leveling an alt through SL doesn’t take long. For me this is the first expansion where I feel like playing one character doesn’t hinder my other characters so it is ok to skip a day on my main if I feel like it. Previously everything was main first and then play alts if the time permits… which sometimes made me resent my main because I would have rather played my paladin that day.
Just the maw introduction and the 15 minutes of slowly standing around in Oribos almost made me quit on my first character. Until that can be skipped there is no way im leveling anything else.
I leveled an alt before the start of S1 and for now I’m not gonna try to keep up with it, the catch-up mechanics are here to help me so I just focus on my main and get him better gear, we’ll see in a few weeks when M+15s and Castle Nathria are on farm.
If all you want to do is pvp it’s fairly fast right now to get ready with the honor gear.
what grind lmao? the only thing you need to do on ur alts if you wanna be hardcore about it is thorghast each week otherwise therse nothing
I mean - I understand the many things I dislike about this expansion, but - like - if you enjoy it enough that you want to level alts through it, do so. It’s entirely doable. There’s nothing stopping you from doing that in the slightest.
It’s alt friendly to get to lvl 60, get a bit of renown faster, but over all there’s a lot to do which requires sheer amount of time.
I’m focusing on one character for now until flying is released, then I’ll take alts more seriously. I certainly don’t have the time of day to do 2x to 4x the amount of daily grinds.
Yet i have 5 of your chars on ignore inculding a classic one will be number 6 now after this so stop telling others about alts when you have many high level chars yourself.
i offically gave up on my alts this week … i level’d 3 to 60 … and this week i only bothered to do everything on one of them.
i still have to finish torghast… if i can be bothered… just feels more like a hassle than a requirement now…
i unlocked all 3 vault sections for mythic+ finally this week after hours upon hours of frustration…
Well doing just torghast on a new char takes you like an entire day of game time, if you class can actually solo it at first place.
Easy fix for this.
Allow people to change Class and spec on their main. Have it as a CD, gold sink or something but just allow people to change classes. Then there wouldn’t be a need to have alts. Same for professions. CD and Gold sink to change those while keeping said previous skills of a profession.
You keep everything, just gear changes accordingly from Plate down to Cloth if need be and Cloth up to Plate depending on which class you’re moving to. Keep the same ilvl and progression.
Let’s see that get included into WoW with option to merge alts with their items, achievements and all to your destinated Main.
Opted in of course but could free up names at least.
Sad but true
I don’t even have that many alts (or alternate mains) but no matter what, can’t find the willpower to start the whole enchilada again on each and one of them…
Sure, there are probably ~2 year to do that, and we are still in just weak 3
But at the moment?
They are just sitting there, looking at me, judging me… and they are right
But even when I could find some time? Just no
Simply no
But “luckly” I have precious little time, so took the easy way out and choose my Hunter to minimalize the stress and actually have a chance to solo things
Hugs the poor Vulpera rouge alt - one day boy. One day!
I love Shadowlands but it is NOT alt friendly.
I can’t bring myself to do everything from scratch on another character no no. I’m stuck with this one for a long time.
I feel like they’re going to change some things when we finish the covenant campaign. It would be easier to make alts skip some stuff I guess.

even had alts. took me forever to get to 60 on my main, then I had to gear her with dungeons, quests, etc.
[/quote] Mandatory doesnt reward anything?
What?
Conduits?
Are you silly?
The only real part being not alt-friendly is Torghast. But then, on an alt you my as well just do it 1 week to be able to craft a leggy and skip it for a while afterwards.
The rest is quite optional and Renown you get from basically any source as catch-up…
Expansion cannot possibly be alt friendly when only proper ways to gear up are time gated. So if it took you 2 months to get certain level on main - it will take exactly the same amount of time for an alt, because you have to do everything from a scratch again. Blizzard designed it in a way that basically only reliable way to gear up is through GV and mythics raids that you won’t do until you are full GV-geared basically. They didn’t make it like “hey it’s fast and pretty easy to catch up to 210, but 220 and more will take you more time”. No, even getting over like 180 is now pain. When all the people finally grind their way to 210 on their mains your 170 alt is like months behind, don’t even try to catch up because the expansion will sooner end than you catch up.
And add to this scarce loot rates, and here we are. I tried making alts already. It’s waste of time if these alts are not actually my other mains that take equally as much of my time. And getting loot even on main is so painful that when I’m bored with my main I’m just leaving the game, I’m not going through all that again.
They managed to make expansion not only alt unfriendly but also forbidding you from changing mains because you will be sitting in deep crap for WEEKS until you reach viability you had on main already.
How is this possible that even ordinary person can see that this “DESIGN” is failing and people who make this game for 16 years are so stupid that they are not aware? This is just ridiculous.
COnduits optionial"?
Renown optionial?
Unlucking areas in the maw optionial? Locked behind venari rep…
Lol…
JWhatever you say… right… Its still a bloody grind.
I’m glad that I play only 2 characters.
Hunter which is my main
DH alt which is a character purely for farming with skinning and herbalism. In veng spec I can pull and mince world mobs as much as I like, even without any gear.
I don’t do any progression on that alt. Bought a bunch of blue pieces on AH and that’s it. Doing progression on main absolutely soaks my game time. Torghast runs are long, Mythic+ runs are long (and numerous as loot is scarce), raid progression is long as the content is new.
To be honest, my plan is just do non rated pvp and upgrade that set to 187 ; maybe buy somet 190 from the AH
The covenant ranking is not that hard for this, that 1500 honor weekly gives 500 honor extra + anima for the anima weekly, but even so this would take at least a month to make one palyable…
Its more likely I will not bother to level them at all
Even in week 3 the gap between your lvl 60 main and lvl 50 alt is to huge to close
Immagine later…
The problem is that the original team isnt there. It looks like they change ppl or teams like socks, because wow is basically about throwing crap on a wall and see what sticks with zero vision or plan outside of maximum profits for the least effort.
Can I point out it is week 3 of the expansion, if they gave us a mechanism to match your alts with your main so we had an army of 180+ characters already ,you’d be moaning there is nothing to do.
Just slow down man, alts come later (unless you are hardcore raider etc.) it is a two year journey.
