What happened to World Quests?

I’ve noticed in Uldum and the Vale, WQ’s are now “hidden events” that you have to find and are not showed up on the map. They are basically the same thing except there is no “kill x of this and y of that”. Instead it is just “Protect this caravan by killing an unknown amount of mobs until a hidden bar fills up”

Have they done this to stop the use of WQ addons? Making us actually go out and find the events which i guess makes us explore more? This patch gets more confusing by the day lol

Yes. They alredy confirmed for Shadowlands that WQs will be changed and 8.3 kinda shows how they will work in Shadowlands.

Well, they can stuff that!

WQ are bad enough now, without adding more RNG, unclarity and depersonalisation.

They’re called events, not world quests, that’s why. You can do the events over and over and over and over and over…

I noticed i can only do any event once per day on same location but can do it again when it spawns somewhere else. So doesn’t seem like infinitely doable.

I use Handy Notes and the Visions extension to mark my map with everything I need to do.

The “hidden events” are a crossover of worldquests and daylies in that they can only be completed once per day but function exactly like worldquests (autoaccept, random spawning etc) - they are just not on the map.

My opinion:
It’s not a bad system. What i like most about them is the inherent “auto-grouping”, in that you will always get credit if you contributed somehow. What i don’t like is that they do not show them on the map. Anybody who gives a damn about these events will install a HandyNotes plugin and see them…it’s just players who do not bother with Addons who have a disadvantage. And i really cannot see how putting players that do not use Addons at such a direct and visible disadvantage is good for the game.

For those who do not know: These events are basically like chests that you can open once per day. With the HandyNotes plugin you will see which ones you can still do and fly there directly to check if they are up or not. And you also know which areas of the map you do not have to check anymore because you already did those events and are now locked out for the day.

TL:DR: Doing them with a HandyNotes plugin, i would say they are an improvement over both daylies and worldquests. They are still worse than worldquests with WQGF, though. The auto-grouping is the only advantage they have over worldquests, in my opinion.

And correct me if i’m wrong…but wasn’t their reason for shutting down the (comfortable to use version of) WQGF that auto-grouping for worldquests is…bad?

If i get to chose one of those systems, my vote goes to Worldquests with WQGF…or an actual dynamic system where you can complete events more than once per day and REALLY have to go around and scout for them…or something entirely new instead.

Not really, they said they would redo the WQ system but 8.3 has “events” rather than WQ (similar but they aren’t linked to any systems)

Is that Blizzard trying to come up with random terms anytime they do something slightly different ? Yeah most likely. But that’s not what they announced at Blizzcon for shadowlands.

Needing an addon seems to be the problem then with design no?

It’s pretty daft if you ask me, I got handynotes and used wowhead just to see what was up. They might as well show it on the map.

Other things I dislike:

  • Fighting over quest mobs with 20 other people because they forgot about decent spawn rates again.
  • The lesser invasion thing being shared with people other than your group
  • The rare spawn rate/survivability of the mobs in the vale.
  • Limit timed chests that can be underground with 1 entrance point that can be 2 minutes away from spotting said chest on the minimap.
  • Not being able to get credit for an event because the other faction tagged all the mobs.

There’s just a lot of small things that annoy me and feel like they again unlearned a lot of things in the span of a few months.

Its nice that they feel optional but I dont hope they scrap world quests completley <.<
