Two of the most iconic and established threats in World of Warcraft lore—the Burning Legion and the Undead Scourge—were once central to the game’s narrative and remain among my personal favorites. But what has become of these mighty forces now that their central leaders are gone?
With the destruction of the Helm of Domination, Bolvar Fordragon no longer fully assuming the role of the Lich King, Kil’jaeden and the Jailer defeated, and Sargeras imprisoned, where do these two colossal threats stand in the grand scheme of things? These storylines don’t seem fully resolved…
Realistically neither threat should be defeated and both should remain a consistent background issue that has to be kept in check.
They’re too iconic to get rid of entirely and should be written in such a way as to have new leader figures step up to cause trouble every now and then. In a subtle, devastating manner.
The Scourge and Burning Legion are no longer in a position to overwhelm with pure numbers but at their core, originally, they both resorted to subtle sabotage. Hidden cults, plagued grain, secretly killing someone and assuming their identity…
It’s a vain hope, perhaps, but I want to see more of that.
At the end of SL we learned that the undead are forming something like tribes and there is a lot of infighting to decide who the dominant warlord will be or something like that. Probably we will see something down the line.
As for the Legion. It got disbanded and there just small sects of Eredar trying to do stuff. No clue what the plan is.
The undead will probably remain splited, making trouble from time to time.
As for the demons, they have more potential to become the next big bad. after all, we’ve never seen the Fel pantheon
Also Sire Denathrius has a good chance of becoming a bigger leader of one of these forces. He is the head of the dreadlords who have ties to the Demons and Scourge.
The Scourge was taken over by rogue leaders with different goals. No longer united. Legion is unknown but without their top leaders they can’t muster a united front to continue the burning crusade.
