I can’t play for more than a week during Christmas (as I suspect is the case for many others).
What will happen to my vault rewards?
Do I have to ask a friend to log in for me in order not to waste a week?
That is against the rules so I’d advise against that

Good question. If it’s like the BFA chest it’ll stay until you loot it? I think…

Until you loot it or a reset has gone by (for example Wednesday to Wednesday). If you haven’t opened it by the 29th the chest will be gone on reset the 30th

This has been the case ever since Legion with the introduction of the Weekly m+ chest
Seems like a bit of an odd design choose given they released just before a major holiday. Can’t see the harm in just letting you open when you get back. But good to know.

its all for activision-"blizzard"s motto of this expansion: less loot, more frustration. Every single slow step towards more annoyance and less gear is welcomed by them.
Can’t you open it in the companion app?
alot of people are home during the holidays. especially during a lockdown. It shouldnt be impossible to find time to open it for most people. Earning a one for the next week might be harder during the holidays tho
Your account security is worth more than a random piece of loot, i wouldn’t try that if i were you.
If you really, really want that gear can’t you just log out in front of the vault, copy WoW on a portable HDD & use it on a potato PC wherever you’ll spend your week just for a few minutes & claim your loot ?
I actually have experienced waiting longer then a week. I had during BFA quit my shaman forgetting I had actually don’t a m+ with him.
I logged on 2 months later to still be able to loot the chest.
Based on this id predict the chest remains available until you have earnt another round of rewards which directly replace the ones prior.
So unless they’ve made major changes to how the gv works I’d imagine the loot will still be available to loot.
However no, we are in a pandemic most people are in their houses far more regularly not out of them 
it’s definitely not the case, in England we’ve just been told we will be lucky to even have one other household allowed into our homes

Idk how it works now, but in BFA it stayed there for you.
On one of my alts i did few m+ in s3, then months later u decided to gear that alt a bit and in s4 i loged on, opened my weekly chest and got item ( back frim s3 week so it was useles).
I suppose it works same way with vault.
Yep, same with me. I played some time at the start of BfA, then I returned this July and there was some obsolete gear waiting for me in the chest.
No? I wouldn’t log in on alts for like 3 weeks and could still open it…
