So, it always puzzled me that Arthus didn’t just unleash the Scourge. And it’s even more puzzling that Bolvar seemed that weak.
We know that the helm was (allegedly) made by the dreadlords, but what if there was a separate entity either in the helm, or connected to it?
What if this entity is the “real” Lich King? What if it wanted this to happen all along?
What if it’s Sylvanas’ real master?
I mean, look at her master’s head shape in the content trailer. Look familiar?
My knee jerk head canon is that that entity is the “real” Lich King, possibly imprisoned. Possibly even a Titan of Death, and the helm was a way of communing with it.
She beat him. He wasn’t weak either. He’s not Arthas level strong, since he doesn’t also have frostmourne, but he’s still lich king.
The whole purpose of this cinematic and sylvanas one shotting saurfang, was to showcase that the magic she’s using is new, powerful, and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
Which wants to point towards the fact that whoever she’s working with or for, is a lot more powerful than your typical power houses of WOW. To the point that even the lich king is nothing in comparison.
As to who this new entity is, I think he’s the titan of death. Imprisoned by the other titans and banished into the shadowlands. which explains why there isn’t a death titan, no death dragon aspect, no guardian of shadowlands or anything death related when it comes to titans.
That’s similar to what I’m getting at, she did beat Bolvar, Indeed, who was the current Lich King, by title. I’m just spitballing, of course, but that if there was always more to The Lich King?
I suspect that entity might have had a connection to the Helm all along, and have been the true driving force behind the decisions of Ner’zhul and Arthus - leading to her creation, but avoiding the destruction of all life (so as to have a constant supply of new souls), which would explain why Arthus didn’t just set the scourge on the world freely, which was apparently a thing that he could’ve done all along. This could easily have been what it wanted to have happen.
Just a thought. Plus, its head seems to be the exact shape of the Helm.
wee see that helm shape on other characters during the in game trailer they shown. It’s not necessarily an indication of the helm of damnation or domination’s source of power being this mysterious entity. the design makes it appear like a shadowland based crafted helm. And based on what i heard, apparently is one of the zones which the army of scourge comes from and it’s where the lich king summons his minions from.
I’m still mostly thinking that this new entity is a titan.
Arthas didn’t unleash the scourge because he had a much bigger plan which involved the corpses of the mightiest heroes to be ressurected by him instead of scattered in pieces by a ravaging horde.
Bolvar is just a gatekeeper. And he is also missing Frostmourne.
BC, WOTLK and Cata are basically the exact same story, with 3 different main villains.
But yea sure. They were master pieces, while the current story is dogsh*t because lich king lost.
You do realize that arthas was stronger than bolvar, thanks to having frostmourne, and he still lost to a paladin, right? That’s your WOTLK master piece lore for you.
But sylvanas being boosted by a death entity defeating bolvar is just too much. UNIMAGINABLE.
Except that Lich King power comes from the Helmet of Domination, not Frostmourne. Arthas was a mere DK with his sword, getting his powers mostly from Nerzul until he got his helmet and became a real Lich King.
Anyhow, I also feel this might explain why breaking the helm opened a portal to the Shadow Lands.
I’ve been looking for anything that would indicate that that would be the expected result but I can’t find anything…
