Can somebody clear this up for me please I’m curious as to what they are, what they can do, etc

Seer seems to be mean different things depending on the society.
An example would be the first of the Highborne to study the Well of Eternity and create Elun’dris. They were considered “Seers” which wasn’t given much clarity on.
My personal take on this scenario would be some sort of “Mage-Priest.”
In other societies, I’m not sure on the details for the other races as I’ve only ever seen the term “seer” used to describe the Highborne Kaldorei.
Seers are not associated with classes, they are basically prophets with a different name.
It’s often associated with caster classes, such as Priests, but they can also have Shamanistic powers.
Seers are people who can predict the future to some degree! The Prophet Velen is a Seer.
But as Janearis said; it seem to differ from culture to culture; The Taurens have an Order of Seers, who are basicly priests of An’she! Also the three most powerful Healers in a Tauren tribe support the chief, the most powerful of whom takes the title seer . A chief generally consults his seer and her two contemporaries before making a decision, but this consultation is not required.
And the first Kaldorei Magi and Priests who settled alongside the shores of the Well of Eternity were “renowned” Seers aswell.
Taurens are the most well known Seers, though, since they have an order surrounding them as the only playable race.
Also, the most competent shamans are, apparently, considered FarSEERs. Depends on the culture.
Why are they called Far Seers? I know that there are Orcs that are regular seers, but you’d expect the Far Seers to be like seers, but in a way special (like they can seer very far, or whatever).
Well at least they can see very far with Far Sight.
In Warcraft III, the “shaman” hero of the Orcs was called a Farseer. This is so due to the orcish belief system. The term “Farseer” means someone that “sees beyond what another can see”, thus it implies the connection to the spirit world. Shaman, as a concept, is a “trade” that is supposed to fully rely on contact with the spirits.
In WoW the concept was… elaborated on. It no longer means a simple shaman. To be a Farseer is, apparently (subjectivity) to be one of the best shamans. Somehow, this has become a simple title for a “most veteran” shaman, I believe.
My point was more that a Far Seer is not particularly a great seer. A seer is like a prophet, as many of us agreed on, someone who can see in the future for example. Shamans are not known to predict the future, not alone at least, since they use their ancestors for that.
It makes sense for the WCIII Far Seer, which was basically the proto-type Shaman of WoW, but Far Seers are more mystical. I think you’re right that the definition shifted (that just happens, and that’s not necessarily bad story writing), but it doesn’t make a lot of sense to keep calling the best Shamans Far Seers.

Sorry, I drank wine, I think I might be missing some points.
A seer is like a prophet
I believe so, yes.
Shamans are not known to predict the future,
Not really, agreed.
since they use their ancestors for that
Yup. Must be the nomenclature issue then.

Fully agreed.
I think you’re right that the definition shifted
Hehe, sadly.

Oh, you’ve almost hit a sensitive spot here.
but it doesn’t make a lot of sense to keep calling the best Shamans Far Seers.
Fully agreed again. My answer? Blizzard’s top quality wiriting. You know what I think of this… this… thing, Sailor Moon van Helsing.
Farseer halasibel.
The greatest of all shamans.

I am flattered but I am a poor farseer.
… I didn’t forsee… this… this… THIS!
EDIT:
I am not using the tile of the Farseer, thus.
Oh, you’ve almost hit a sensitive spot here.
It’s not uncommon for definitions to shift. Far Seers are mainly Orcs (although any race can be a Far Seer), so if their society (or the Earthen Ring) changed, they may have been using the title differently.
Or Blizzard desperately needed a Shaman title, and the Rule of Cool was applied, and literally every Shaman Adventurer was named Far Seer. It’s probably that. But it can’t hurt to look for far-fetched, lore-friendly explanations! That means at least someone tries to make sense of it, Blizzard isn’t going to try.

I think I know what you’re talking about, Bartholomaius.

(sorry for bitly, but the link was quite long).

Seems like Ion!

I am in love with your attitude.

Continuity… I long for the day you are valued…
I can never express enough my distaste… my DISGUST for someone who can ever claim that the continuity is not necessary! It’s like a doctor diagnosing you with a sickness and saying that medicine is not required!!!
I AM NOT GETTING OVER THAT!
Ion will rue that day. He will rue the day he said that.
STORY IS CONTINUITY. This is SACRED. There are no shortcuts. Ion will either repent or he (and WoW) will pay consequences.
STORY IS CONTINUITY!!!
