They clearly use shadow/void magic and since apparently shadow priest use in fact the void does that mean sub rogue do to ? Or is shadow magic still a different thing ?

Short answer: There is no real lore about that.
Might be whatever the Night Elf Wardens do. Might be Void Magic, it probably is for Void Elves. Might be death related. Might be strange looking nature magic stuff. We don’t really have much to go by, except for the optics. And those probably were mostly just “do cool ninja stuff”.
I can literally transport myself and another being into the shadow realm with a pvp talent, that’s way above your average ninja stuff.
Anime ninja stuff, then. 
Unfortunately anime is not (yet) a legit source of power in wow lore.
But it probably is an inspiration for designers…
In the lore, I believe that there is no spec divide, everything is still classic like with double dipping into tree systems based on characters.

Fire mages and Frost mages are a thing though.
In lore the Schools of Arcane Magic are a thing, of which only one contains most of the offensive stuff, while the rest are things like summoning, illusions, transformations, etc. So in lore Frost and Fire mages are actually a specialisation of a specialisation, not really a basic type of mage.
