Hello, I was not able to find any confirmed answer on this topic.
We all know/heared, that we are phasing into Cataclysm after wotlk. But what is going to happen after that? Another expansion? Or our characters will just live in the Cata forever?
What is going to happen to our characters? Achievements? (I currently got more valuable achievements on classic that retail)
Or can we expect some retail/classic merge?
Don’t take me wrong, I love classic experience, but it would be pretty sad if we lose everything in the end. So much effort, time, work and relationships.
Do we have some confirmed info on that? Or just guesses?
Thanks for every answer and sorry for terrible english!
Well it’s too far in the future.
Cataclysm is unlikely to release this year and then it will run for more than a year.
So we are looking at 2025.
Interest in more expansions will decrease as it decreased when these expansions were retail.
So what will happen when there is no interest in another Classic expansion - I guess that will be Battle for Azeroth Classic? You can continue playing the last expansion released without getting new (recycled) content.
It is a very open question whether Cata “Classic” (lol) is even happening at all. Wrath population is rapidly shrinking, ToC is gonna be just a speedbump. And out of those playing probably more than half don’t want anything to do with Cata just on principle. I’d not at all be surprised if no Cata happened at all and Blizzard did some combination of fresh/hardcore/SoM servers instead, perhaps on seasonal rotation.
I think they will try cataclysm but it will probably fail tbh. look at the servers we have 16 EU servers left that aren’t on life support, 9 others they will probably close and 21 servers they have already deleted.
Hi, quick reminder that after cata comes MoP.
There is no chance blizzard will merge retail/classic.
What happens with your char once the Classic progression is over? Nobody knows.
That’s cope. Besides, Blizzard already confirmed a new season and hardcore which separated from Classic. There are more people interested in the following expansions than people who hate it for no reason.
Tbh i rarely ever see people who think of Cata as the end of “vanilla” wow, And most think of WOTLK as that.
So it’s more likely we get WOTLK forever realms (especially with all the changes they’re doing) like Classic Era & Cata that continue to whatever after.
Same was said about SoM and Wrath, yet here are my SoM character along with my Classic->TBC->Wrath progressed ones on the same Wrath realm.
The complete merge wond happen, however Blizzard would love to not loose playerbase, so some form of copy/transfer would be definitely available. The question is, however, will whole WoW be relevant at that point?
I wish WoW Classic MoP (lol) and WoW Classic Legion (lol) could happen at some point, however I would never accept playing in WoD without them adding lost raid tier of Battle for Shattrath city and reworking Garrisons + reengeneering cut out content they sacrafice in 2014 to release Overwatch in time. Everything beyond Legion doesn’t really interests me. Maybe the problem is that I don’t see good in new addons, because Wrath has all my attention now, or because there is nothing phenomenal about 10th addon of a 18 yo game, so my interest is held purely on nostalgy from 2005-2018.
Glad I’m not the only one.
Like really, I’ve finally realized that all the love and warmth I have for WoW is tied to my past experience. After Legion’s end, I suddenly lost all the interest in new content. Today, playing WoW is like replaying one of my favorire games, like Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic, for instance. I mean, I can still see myself doing multiple playthroughs from time to time, but would I be genuinely excited if Bioware decides to release a brand new DLC for their 20-year-old game all of a sudden? Highly doubt it.
most likely the game will just go maintance mode with opened transfers to retail (it’s gonna happen 200%)
ideally they can make something like shadowlands last patch buffing all wotlk (maybe classic and tbc aswell) raids and gear to new tier but it’s unlikely to happen (too much effot)
cata classic is DOA and would be a worst and most epic fail they can make, I doubt they are so retarded to do so (but who knows)
