I am a new players who started playing WOW in August last year. I wonder what is the best way to play through old content.
I am planning to have an alt that I will freeze experience gain at level 59 to use Chromie Time to select the different expansions.
Is it better to just use 1 alt for all previous expansions or have an alt for each?
Do dungeons become more difficult at levels 50+? Is it better to complete them at lower levels?
Are you looking to do all the quests in each zone. For that I locked a char at 49. I may level it to 59 now I can. Check the net for the Wow’s best quest lines. There are a decent amount.
I believe from what I’ve read that the dungeons in BfA are difficult without a good level heart of Azeroth with borrowed power slots filled with extra buffs and abilities
As for how many chars used. I personally don’t think that’s important. Classic and burning crusade gear doesn’t seem to give a lot of secondary stats I noticed.
Era or Wrath? I have few characters in Wrath that I hope to have enough time to play with.
That’s exactly what I would like to do.
But there is no need for me to lock it at 49 now, right? I can lock it at 59.
I’ve read somewhere that they are more difficult now with the new scaling to 59. Is it better to leave them for after I have cleared most of the other content?
I have a rogue and a mage locked at 49. I can’t really recommend any class because you might not like the same as me. I picked high damage class also 2 classes I am familiar with.
Lock at 58 max because otherwise Chromie will knock you out of Chromie time every capital city visit.
For dungeons you can either queue with LFG or turn off Chromie and go back to solo them all, helpful as you can then also do the raids.
BfA is a problem currently and I am unsure what is best for it. I have yet to try doing it with a level 70 with at least 385 gear.
Aside from Hunter I use either Paladin or Warrior. Warriors can learn all the weapons, Paladin mogs are best imo and next to unkillable. Humans are good for rep chasing as they have a buff.
I started in Battle for Azeroth and was in the same place, so I believe I can answer this from another new player’s perspective.
I froze experience gain before, but let me tell you, it gets boring fast. The problem is that you will not get any better equipment than what you already have, you will not get any new skills. You won’t have any real sense of progress. Eventually after completing two zones and some lengthy daily grinds in Pandaria, I came to the conclusion that it is better to just get max level, do some dungeons and other stuff once a while and then just wander through the zones for the story aspect and atmosphere alone doing the missions. You will be able to solo everything, but they aren’t exactly difficult on lower levels eithers, just takes longer time.
As for alts, it depends do you want to play with just one character or multiple characters. Freezing exp at 59 and going through all expansions will get super boring, as you won’t get new gear or skills for hundreds of hours.
So, as a fellow new player, my recommendation would be to do new content and old content simultaneously - whichever you are feeling at the moment. Then do some PvP and stuff in the meantime as well.
Surprised to read that. I thought you would use more tanky classes. I guess well geared rogue could kill group of mobs quickly. How is the rogue against elites? And for the mage you freeze/slow and destroy from a distance.
But it is just inconvenience. No problem talking again to Chromie and returning to the chosen timeline.
Heirlooms and enchants have been used. I do realise new players will not have them yet. Im slowly working on all the quests on classic and TBC so it’s easy enough. Theres a few tricky elite quests than can be soloed. Both of them I find very enjoyable. Not quite god mode but fun. Both are ok for smaller packs and most elites
But you get random upgrades once in a while blue → purple.
The problem is I won’t be able to queue for older dungeons once I reach 60.
I think it’s too much content for multiple characters, I would like to choose a single class that is strong through multiple expansions and complete most content with it. You are wright, it will be super boring doing it with multiple characters.
That’s what I am planning to do - main doing the new content and alt old content.
Are heirlooms always better than any drop below level 59?
Had a really weird experience recently around old content. Decided to level a Void Elf Warlock but instead of doing WoD like i normally do i thought i would do old world. I was shocked when i hit Westfall, i was like wtf is this??? A combination of loads of Classic (BC, WOTLK etc…) and always levelling through WoD in Retail i forgot they redid the quests in Elwynn and Westfall for Cata. I was truelly shocked!!!
Strange how content you havent done in ages comes back and surprises you.
They did and they are worse. Few of the quests still remain, some changed a little. But I really hate when jump on some killing machine and kill 100 elites. But really enjoyed the introduction of the daughter of VanCleef.
