What is the coolest race for mages?

Draenei duh… Easy choice. That’s why mine is human.

Night elf

I recognised it!

Its why I upvoted it!

But i agree with Linma (since i am here so may as well give my opinion), Zandalari or Pandaren.

I am biased towards Zandalari. When I get bored of my belf mage, I’ll probably reroll her to zandalari

I may not be the coolest, but I am sure one of the hottest mages out there.

Blood Elves because - obviously.

Nightborne because - obviously.

Void Elves because - obviously.

If we don’t get Darkfallen, I do want to level a Void Elf Arcane Mage. Something about Void Elf Arcane Mages just feels so powerful and mysterious.

You mispelled Highborne and/or Night Elves😏

Blood/Void Elf. No, I’m not biased at all.

The current Highborne leader did a great job of casting thorn/nature spells during the Battle for Darkshore.

Maybe the current Highborne are learning to become Druids  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Dwarf females too.

  • :drop_of_blood: Blood Elves are quite cool. They come from a civilization deeply interwoven with magic, where it is the right of every citizen to wield the Arcane. Many aspects of the blood elves’ magic have been explored: from their pragmatism up to their addiction to magic. Both have likely played a part in your past as a blood elf mage, and perhaps like others have said, you might very well be trying some new forms of magic!
Ren’dorei can be the same thing with a layer of complexity added to them: instead of fel, you use shadows!

  • :woman: :man: Humans have a lot of history with the arcane. The Kirin Tor is actually a cool kids group, but even a conjuror from Stormwind is not to be discarded. There isn’t a lot of lore surrounding them, but you could belong to the Alliance rather than a neutral faction. Both solid options with plenty of history behind them and a general idea of what type of magic they use (read: frost/arcane over fire). A tidesage from Kul Titans is also a thing worth considering.

  • :axe: Orc mages. I once tried one and had a lot of fun. Makes an original take and gives you a breath of fresh air from all of the pompous attitude (or not, you choose - pompous and formal ogres for the win!). My character did exactly what Elenthas suggested: he used the magic of the Gorian Empire to his advantage. And then tried to learn from the elves… with mixed results. Had a great time.

  • :elf: High elves work as the “lone wolf” type, a bit of an outcast from everyday society, or a Silver Covenant agent. Though expect a hard time for the first concept. There’s a lot of helves in Stormwind I’ve been told.
And consider this: how did you cling to magic all this time without succumbing to your thirst?

  • :smiling_imp:  :shamrock: Troll, Dwarves, Vulpera, Gnomes: nothing special here. Their race doesn’t have a lot of story with the arcane, so it’s up for you to make it up. Zandalari Arcanitals are a thing, perhaps they might be interesting. Dwarves could also be interesting. Perhaps a scholar, or an archeologist trying to unearth some artifacts!

  • :crescent_moon: Highborne. The thing I would stress, if you are a highborne - that is, a night elf noble - is that you aren’t a “rich of magic”. Your addiction to magic has nearly taken your sanity, your society has been destroyed, your prince was mad, and you don’t have the magic that you had in the golden age. Your people were so desperate that they had to drain a demon. After ten thousand years, any magical artifact you had has likely been drained, so I wouldn’t go around with a plethora of ten thousand years old weapons, mounts and secret towers. You likely feel the weight of the past. A powerful but most of all, knowledgeable elf.

  • :zombie: Forsaken. It might just work. But answer this: why haven’t you used darker forms of magic? Perhaps arcane magic is the one element that binds you to what you think is your “human” side. As other forsaken look to the shadows and the fel, you look at the prestige that arcane gave you in your life, and believe it can still be used as a force for your own good. But perhaps your morality has become twisted, and your view has changed. Alternatively, you decided you want to rediscover your humanity again as Calia Menethil decided to lead your people and Sylvanas betrayed you. From the path of a warlock, one that you have taken in un death, you aim to rediscover the innocence of the arcane. An inner struggle to redeem yourself. Or maybe nothing of the above: maybe you use a dark magic and combine it with the arcane. After all, death magic works wonders with the cold.

  • :star2: Nightborne. Likely the most advanced civilization when it comes to arcane, they are well-connected to magic, to a point that some of them were actively empowered with the essence of a titan! As of now, they’re trying to find their own way into this world, something we can all relate to. The nightborne story is rich as we’ve had the chance to see their inner thoughts during the Suramar campaign. We also have multiple unique classes and combat styles, which I think are great! Frankly? I believe they have a lot of potential and have an amazing background which also allows them to experience Azeroth for the first time after ten thousand years.

  • :rocket: Draenei. Much like elves, they have share a great civilization. They are kind-hearted and pure. As of Legion, we also have an idea of how they approached magic, often incorporating it with martial arts. A Lightforged could be a bad-*ss, Dumbledore-type wizard if you think you can pull that off. Alternatively a young idealistic mage adventurer trying his best in this world is also a good fit for the race. Whoever you are, remember: the war against the shadows draws near!

TLDR. I would do an elf or an orc mage.

Maybe not. But they are part of the Kirin Tor and have a brilliant mind.
Their desire to experiment, adapt and grow as a people could be interesting with a mage.
Creating new spells, thinking outside of the box on how to use certain magics to solve a problem.
Maybe they want to experiment with transmutation of toxic compounds to clean their home?

There’s something special in everyone!

Yes!

Draenei mages are seriously underrated. The Arcane traditions of their civilization were already ancient when Dark Trolls first went paddling in some magic well.

Chunks of their knowledge and technology were probably lost on Argus (and again on Draenor), but even modern Draenei will be some of Azeroth’s most powerful wizards.

Orcs.

Simple because they’re the coolest race and everyone else is wrong.

It’s often overlooked but they were the great mages of the known universe and weild it in unique ways. No mention is made of that troublesome addiction either which seems a distinctly elf problem.

Always remember that humans will always dominate with their intuitive magical brilliance, outpacing the eldest and greatest all without crippling addiction.
