What is the difference between classic and wotlk classic?

Hello, I started this game around April last month. My highest character is a lvl 28 warrior in wotlk classic (noob). I was wondering which version I should focus on. I heard wotlk classic is more about endgame and classic is more about the leveling process? I am sure I will spend more time leveling than doing endgame, so should I play classic? (not wotlk)

wotlk classic is an instanced solo player game, (fun in its own right)

classic is pretty much the opposite

if you want to run through mobs korean mmorpg style wotlk classic is where u want to go

if you want slow progress and ‘meaningful’ journey go to the other one

Hmm, I think I might go with classic then, even though I am not sure how big the differences are.

the reason wotlk is considered endgame focused its because raids are much more interactive and ‘difficult’. there are also arenas 2v2, 3v3, 5v5 pvp which dont exist in classic

yes but open world and battlegrounds (10v10 etc). no instanced arenas unless you organize that in the open world

to clarify open world means you kill other people who are questing or leveling etc

Yes, I have read people saying flying mounts stops world pvp. Flying mounts are not in classic, right? I think thats a little cool, you can see people still out in the world at higher levels :smiley:

Not sure what the other person is on about, WOTLK is the live game with the majority of the classic population. Lots of people are leveling in WOTLK and you should have a much better time leveling as the world has more quests, better quest rewards, The Classes are much more enjoyable as you’ll actually have buttons to press and good talents instead of auto attacking your way to max level on Classic Era.

Classic Era is just the version of the game as it was last updated in 2020 for people who enjoy the “vanilla” version of WoW except the only problem that the majority of current Classic Era players are Flavor of the month Andys, They’re only there because of the Hardcore community addon (which forces you to play alone and not be able to trade or use the auction house LMFAO )

If I was you I would stick to WOTLK.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned that you cannot move from Classic Era to Classic Wrath. My personal suggestion for Classic Era would be to wait until Classic Season of Mastery 2 comes out and play that, quicker levelling and a lot of players at endgame then when it closes after 14 months choose to stay the same on Classic Era or move to Classic Wrath at the end of it’s life, probably just in time for Classic Cataclysm.

Classic Era will never be updated, and I do mean never, it will always be as it is now.

Classic Wrath will be updated to Classic Cataclysm (probably).

Classic Era is filled with FOTM hardcore players who cant trade or party up. It’s as if they aren’t there. Like Dottie said, if you want Vanilla gameplay, Blizzard is going to release new servers soon-ish.
Play Wrath Classic for sure, it’s probably gonna get new JJ xp buff as well, and Phase 3 is coming with new catch-up mechanics.

Is it all of Classic Era? I thought it’s the Hydraxian Waterlords server only.

:man_shrugging: I don’t play Era, but all the news I see from it for the last few months is about the hardcore movement hype with iron man rules and the like.

News and hype is one thing but don’t confuse new players. In all other servers except Hydraxian Waterlords there are players who will group and trade.

Will you play the new season now that it has officially been confirmed? I’ll definitely play. I will also play very little Era but I prefer season with possible progress at the end.

I’m not sure, it makes more sense than playing Era, which is where most of my time ingame has gone.

Create one on each and find what you prefer tbh, other people’s opinions are just that, opinions. You’ll find what you like and dislike from both and perhaps you’ll find the one to focus on eventually. I like them both for different reason but at the moment I’m on WOTLK classic, I may go back to classic era for the new challenge soon.

I also wish WOTLK classic would implement the LFD asap, because looking for groups in chat is about as fun as watching grass grow. It’s just awful and takes forever

This is not true.
Classic Era is not about hardcore playing, except for one server: Hydraxian Waterlords. All other servers are running without HC mode.
It is yet to be seen how many will jump the HC ship when Blizzard release the servers, but I am 100% sure a big part will stay on Era still.
