What is the new level cap for turning off xp?

Before pre-patch it was level 49 when you could stay in chromie time so it was pretty clear when to disable xp gain if you want to stay in particular timeline longer to finish it (without playing whack-a-mole with mobs in an outleveled zone)
Right now I know they’ve extended it to level 59 and on 60 you’ll be booted out of chromie time.

However

During last pre-patch and before DF launched I already couldn’t turn off xp gain on my level 54 alt who was in MoP timeline (XP eliminator in Stormwind didn’t provide dialogue option to turn it off and people said it’s not a bug, blizzard made it deliberately) so I had no other option than to see it ding 60 and be kicked out of Pandaria.

So my question is – does anyone know what is new safe level to cap your character and stay in chromie time after the launch? I can’t find any clear info online and I don’t want experiment on my alt that I plan to keep in Legion for some time.

Thanks in advance!

So far I stopped at safe 49 level point but I wonder if I can up this to level 50 (to do both BfA and Legion) without Slahtz in Ogrimmar suddenly not working on me anymore.

I think there’s no other way rather than to experiment

I recall patch notes saying 59 not too long ago. Think it was in the pre-expansion patch notes, either phase 1 or a hotfix, so shouldn’t be too hard to find.

If it is 59 then why it is not working at 54 as per OP?

How would I know? I’m not on the development team. But that’s what it says under Creatures and NPCs section.

So currently reached 50 and was still able to turn off XP with no problems, unlike in pre-patch.
That level suffices all my needs for now and I won’t go further soon, but I believe if it’s still works on 51 then it was fixed after DF launched and possibly can go as far as 59 because why not. Will test it when I get there.

Why you need to turn off xp for content? You can do any content at any level.

You can’t opt in for scaling up legacy content at higher levels, which is why players would want to turn off xp for maintaining the upscaled legacy content until they are are done with it.

Once you reach level 60 you will be phased out of chromie time and all zones before SL will stop scaling to your level and drop down to 35-45, resulting you to be OP and one-shot everything.

In some cases some quests even become impossible to complete if they require you to ‘wound’ mob instead of killing it for example (your only hope is to be naked, res sick, shrunken, wear 1 dps weapon and other voodoo stuff to even have a chance of not one-shoting mob)

So if you’re like me trying to complete some old zone achievements, stories or hunt for mounts/mogs while retaining entertaining gameplay there is an option to turn off XP gain.

There is a “toy”, a big foam sword, that will do almost fatal damage to trivial enemies, pretty much made for such cases. The goblin toy vendor that walks around Orgrimmar sells it iirc, not sure in Stormwind but I think there’s a similar noem there.

Not really the topic here, but could be useful I imagine.

I was talking specifically about this toy as well as “theatre prop” dagger from Ardenweald etc. Trust me it’s not enough, for instance in the Ungorro crater quest when you need 20 or so raptors to venom you before you kill them. You can spend hours on this quest with no luck
Anyway there are many advantages to turning xp off for old world exploration, this is just one of them

Oh I occasionally use the experience eliminator myself. Just figured the foam sword might be useful advice if you weren’t aware of it :+1:t2:

How is the foam sword toy not working? It removes most but not all hitpoints from a trivial target.
The Theater Prop Kris is not a toy, but simply a weak weapon. Of course that won’t work.

And I just visited Slahtz in OG on a level 58 char that has all Chromie times listed and he offers XP elimination.
If there is an issue with the Alliance one, maybe it is related to phasing of that zone? Because it seems to be affected by some Chromie time phasing for intro quests.

last time i did was when i was visiting sw and was booted out chromie for some campain q. Did not go to the q giver but directly to chromie and set my timeline back.
that character is few blocks away from 60

I thought that BfA zones as the default leveling experience now scale to 60.

I remember the quest in Ungorro crater I described was a pain even with foam sword equipped. Even if stupid raptors were able to survive one hit I had to spend like half-hour naked, shrunken and res-sick for them to be able to hit and poison me. But I digress

Thank you for confirming the 58 level. It seems that they brought back XP elimination after November 28th

Ah, the incoming direction was the problem.
Well, ask a rogue to give you a bottle of Zanzil’s Slow Poison, wait a week, then any raptor can hit you every time, guaranteed.

Yes, it does, excluding Mechagon and Nazjatar.
Maybe a misunderstanding since Blizzard kinda treats BfA as current, non-Chromie-time content. Thus the scaling to 60.

Did you turn your back to them, you can’t dodge and parry from behind.
