What is the point of ground mounts?

There are tons of grounds which you never be able to use anymore since you always fly nowadays.
I love my wolfs or my skeletal horses’ mounts but I won’t be using them anymore since I always fly.
So I either use my hippogryph or big mounts.
I love my mechano hog, warlord deathwheel, or Kor’kon annihilator.
I wish blizz would make all ground mounts flyable so I could use them again.
My few cents.
Cheers,

i use ground mounts quite a lot for all the places i can’t fly like the timeless island  or visiting Silvermoon

Doing Battlegrounds right now. Feels useful to have a ground mount there.

There’s a lot of places you can’t fly though. Battlegrounds, dungeons, raids, scenarios, some area phasing, characters below level 30. Now you can still cruise around on your flying mount in those cases if you wish, sure, but seeing as flying mounts tend to be big/clunky or look ridiculous when jumping, a lot of people prefer using the ground mounts on those occasions.

That’d be really weird for many of them though.

They should just go back to having a time in an expansion when you can’t fly.
I’ve noticed the difference now and I agree with what the devs have been saying for all these years; flying right away takes away from experiencing the content and zones.

If the rumours are true and we’re going underground in the next big content patch… Maybe we won’t be allowed to fly there and we’d be using our fateful ground mounts again.

i mean if they want an expansion where everyone un-subs they could have a none flying expansion they tried that in wod we all know how that ended -.-;

Oh no, I don’t mean for the whole expansion. Just for a while, like they’ve been doing for years… Only… Maybe skip on the achievement to unlock it; just unlock it in the first big content patch or something; this goes for dragonriding as well as regular flying.

FFXIV managed fine by letting all mounts fly.

And not like flying horses look strange in this game.

Ground mounts have a lot of use for RPG as at the moment they are the only thing actively useable as props…

so give an example, if you are a scholar or a trader some of the mules act very much like your store/supplies this goes for the yaks and mammoths.

I have always liked how they tack them in a way that makes they easy to use as a prop, with items hanging or adorning them that you can use in your narratives.

Tah on a recent thread has already mentioned some ways to increase this by offering caravans, but wagons, carts, stalls, trollies all would be really useful and all kind of need the ground.

I wouldn’t know because I’ve never played FF for long - I quit after about 3 weeks because I hated it.

I’m just saying that I noticed a clear difference. My ‘bond’ with the various zones is much less than in previous expansions. I still like the zones; but they’re ‘just stretches of land to fly across’ instead of actual landscape that needs traversing.

But they can probably never go back now to non-flying tbh. There’d be a riot.

Agree to disagree.

I use my travel form a lot quite honestly. Then again, it’s instant.

Those are temporary places. In most dungeons, and raids you cannot use mounts. In battlegroundss you do not ride for a long period of time.

I always connected better with the landscape from air, because then you actually get an overview of it. I feel like I don’t see anything when on ground. That is just me though.

Only downside with dragonriding is that I have to pay attention to more than the landscape when I fly, but it’s okay.

You can also ride using flying mounts there, right? So no point changing mount for one activity.

Doesn’t change the fact that ground mounts are ideal for those occasions or that people prefer them then :man_shrugging:t2:

Mmmh, it takes away from the discovery and exploration though imo.
But it’s not BAD, I’m just noticing a difference; that’s all. I’m still having fun.
And often I will just land and ride across parts of the zone, just because.

In addition to what others said, Oribos was a ground mount hangout. But even in Dragonflight, how can you overlook the fact that you cannot use your flying mounts? Your choice is just a few dragonriding mounts.
I put ground mounts in a “noflyable” macro option for cases like that. And whenever I don’t feel like using my dragonriding mount there, I press shift and my fav ground mount appears.

There are many mounts that are grounds mounts with added flying like arcanist manasaber, hearthsteed, warforged nightmare. Some have additional flying animations but still they are just modified ground mounts at their core.

I use my ground mount in Dungeons a lot.

And for general flex.

Oh I know; I just don’t think any of them look good when they fly.
