What is the purpose of griefing?

That’s not the only reason I listed, and I could list dozens more.
Classic is definitely not a sandbox. It’s just too scripted, too much “on rails”, too instanced too, and it will only get worse when BGs are added.
Note that I don’t say that negatively. I enjoy Classic a lot, WoW is one of the best MMORPGs I’ve ever played, and I played a lot. But don’t try to make it what it never was.

You’re right, PvP system doesn’t make a game sandbox or themepark but WoW still is a themepark game to the core.

Classic WoW is a themepark MMORPG and WoW retail is a mixture of ARPG and themepark MMORPG crusted with mobile gaming features. Having FFA PvP, faction based PvP, or no PvP at all doesn’t change this.

I feel this is the part of the reason why people enjoy PvP servers, including me. The sense of accomplishment you get after slaying that high level rogue that has been plaguing and hindering your progress is immense. Few things can compare to that.

The feeling will only last until he brings his whole guild to get his revenge on you, however.

It so little boys with little ***** can feel big and poweful.

Play on a pve server where you can toggle pvp on and off and you’ll get the best of both worlds.

I have little kids. Every time we play and I’m either in pain or pretend I’m hurt, they laugh. I’d start looking for an answer to your question right there, OP

since you’re a new player, i’ll be nice, you’re just learning the game, and it’s always cool to have new players in wow. For me i don’t call it griefing, you don’t have to take it personally it’s a game, what makes wow so great, it’s the fact that everything can happen, it just adds a sense of danger, even now everytime i cross a player with the skull face i have a grin on my face waiting for his reaction. The first time it happend to me it just gave me an incentive to level up and getting stronger, like see you later man. In my case i can’t even imagine playing on anything other than an pvp server and just grinding with no sense of danger around me. If it’s not the same for you maybe you should try a pve server before you’re too high level.

This, mostly. And it makes the world feel alive, dangerous and unpredictable. You’re no longer The Special One who kills dragons for fun. If you don’t watch out, you’re prey. Some people don’t like PvP at all and some people are afraid of being killed; they take it personally. For me, PvE server is like choosing “very easy” as the game difficulty. But that’s just me. The anticipation and thrill of unexpected potential threats everywhere, wherever you go, is a part of the vanilla experience for me. I wouldn’t change it for anything.

I don’t grief low levels or corpse camp myself (unless provoked) but I have no problem with those who decide to. It’s a game. You don’t have to play nice. And no, not being nice does not make you a fat nerd playing in your mother’s basement. I’m fairly convinced that most gankers & griefers are just regular, boring people working an office job like so many of us. Stop projecting, folks.
