What makes Shadow wierd and

I played Shadow a lot since vanilla (since my ex played holly), and trough Wotl, Cata, Mop, and right now in BFA I constantly forced myself to play it, with the hope it delivers what it should. . . But it never does. And i just now realized why. It has 2 reasons.

1, Blizzard does not realize the problem that lies in point 2. And does random things, and even after 3 reworks they still can’t and won’t be able to fix this unless they know the root of the problem clearly. Right now they don’t.

2, Priest has 1 DPS spec, and it’s a MIXED damage spec.
A direct damage/dot hybrid. and that is insanely hard to get right…in fact because of the current content needing different kinds of approaches to perform well it cant be done at all.
Let me get an example to make my point clear.
Mythic low end, and dungeons/PvE, in general, prefers fast direct damage cleave and mobility. And since Shadow priest is a hybrid, it can only delliver half of it…AKA you won’t be wanted
For Raids and high-end Mythics dots are really good…but you are only a hybrid, you are going to lack here as well, trough at least you perform better here than an indirect damage compartment.
I won’t even talk about PVP.

Why this really irritates me to tell you the truth is, because Warlock can simply switch. And are wanted everywhere!!! While priests are constantly sunned in general.
Might also mention Gear Scaling: Like how a Dk just runs trough a dungeon in good gear and basically solo cleave’s down packs of mobs in a second and the whole dungeon. While as a priest you can’t even get off a single spell or Aoe that makes a relevant difference. Trough this goes for other casters as well.

At least that’s my opinion and experience of 15 years-ish playings.
Anyone got thoughts or Constructive feedback on this, Please do comment.

I think Blizzard’s design solution is to use the talent choices as means of customizing your gameplay to fit different situations.

So if you do raiding, then you pick different talents compared to if you do World Quests or Heroic dungeons.

Twist of Fate vs. Misery vs. Searing Nightmare.

Raids, solo, dungeons. Roughly speaking.

That doesn’t mean Shadow Priest won’t have weaknesses, but it does mean that you can focus your strength on the content you’re doing through the talents you pick.

I think that’s what they’re going for at least.

Inlook uppon shadow as a spec that allows the healer priest to play DPS

If you want full dps, there is the full dps classes… or classes with 2 dps specs…

That is every pure dps spec, they can’t cover more important roles like heal or tank (wich is handy) , but the fact they have a triple dps spec make them more versatile.

Rogues for raiding can go Assa and switch outlaw for M+.

Priest you have one single dps spec, and that is why most people hated VF. It was awful to play unless you were playing in hard difficulties(and even there have flaws) the talent tree offered 0 customization over the years because blizzard gave 0 attention to shadow tree.

Shadow should be a more straightforward spec, not because VF was hard or because is the off spec of healers, but simply because is the only dps spec you have.

If you screw up Shadow they can’t respec to “Void” priest, you basically have yo heal or reroll.

SL shadow does not look weird in my eyes, but a more straightforward spec that does not need useless Hoops jump just for the sake of jumping.

Shadow isn’t a hybrid spec. It is a DPS spec.
