What should I use my echoes for?

I’m unsure wether to save them for corruptions for when I get better gear, or spend them on vessels to get my cloak lvl up to max faster?

It depends on what you think your route is to better gear.

If you are going to get 5 mask runs done and 470’s or the odd 15 key with a 475 chest then I’d wait unless you have echoes to burn.

If you think the gear is as good as its getting for a while then by all means corrupt it.

look at this way, buying corruptions is pointless until you get that cape to 15 as at rank 15 you can start earning additional resistance per week.

Never spend echos on vessels, unless you have enough echos to buy all the corruptions and essences you’ll need (or if you can farm enough echos to have enough for your corruption when it comes on the vendor).

If you don’t have high ilevel gear yet, you can still buy the corruptions if you have enough echos, and bank them. If you don’t have enough echoes to buy them, it’s better to save them, because gear is easier to farm.

Do your n’zoth assaults, and you’ll have enough vision keys to get the cloak up in a few weeks. You can get 3-4 keys with very little farming, so 3-4 cloak levels a week. Should take you about two weeks to get your cloak to 15.

I disagree. Applying corruption to an item you’ll replace soon is pointless. Buying it and saving it for a higher ilevel item on the other hand, is not.

I mean, a vision key is effectively 1000 echoes (1750, but you get 750 for a full clear). With a Rank 7 cloak, my suspicion is that the OP does not have an abundance of echoes, but lets say they have 20k. To get from 7 to 15, you need 8 keys total, so 8k echoes spent. That’s quite a lot. In contrast, if you spread out your vision runs over two weeks, you can do the n’zoth assaults, mini visions, perhaps a daily or two, and do 8 runs without any echoes spent at all. In fact, you gained 6k.

Spending echoes on vision runs is pointless, unless you have nothing else to spend them on. If you do - like OP -, it’s better to save them for corruptions and essences, and use coalescing visions for vision keys instead.

you get to earn +3 resistance per week when it is 15 so it is critical that it is done as soon as possible, you won’t have any real gear before getting that cape maxed anyway

+3 resistance is not worth 8k echoes, though. One good corruption you could buy from 8k echoes will be more beneficial than 3 resistance.

It’s very much possible to get quite good gear without a maxed cloak. A friend’s alt is at 460 ilevel, can easily time 13s, and only rank 13 cloak. Her first timed 13 was with a rank 4 cloak, I believe. She’s not aiming anything higher than that, so putting corruption on her 460/465 pieces is good enough.

Mind you, if she’d aim at 15s, she could do that with a rank 13 cloak too, and corrupt 475 items, no biggie.

Imo you should focus on

1/ Essences
2/ specific corruptions
3/ Vessels

I agree with trinskrping,

You’ll eventually get there, no need to focus on the cloak. If you want to run visions on the other hand go on and have fun, but don’t feel forced to waste your echoes on vessels for the cloak or resistance

you are putting a corruption you can get any time you want above 6 corruption resist that you will never get back for basically months at this point.

if you don’t get that 6 corruption then it is highly likely that you won’t even be to fit additional corruptions in and have fun, always one step behind.

It’s my second week gearing this character and i got that 15 cape and 6 resist today, all subsequent echoes can now be used entirely on corruption, which can be grinded, defeating the point in buying corruptions until the cape is at 15.

Plan longterm. Dont spend echoes on cores for cloak. Buy what you need longterm and then as you get the resistance and 470+ items you start enchanting them with the corruption. Leveling and gearing alts now works differently since you are so dependent on getting your resistance up. Its now a project of 2-3 months instead of 2-3 weeks.

Personally I wouldn’t spend echoes on anything other than essences I needed or corruptions.

Ultimately the choice is yours though, if you feel it’s more important to upgrade your cloak then there is no right or wrong choice

Lets see… you can get 30k coalescing visions each week by doing the assaults and the mini visions only, for 3 vision keys. You’ll be able to get your cloak to R15 in four weeks with them, and collect ~10k echoes just from the visions themselves. If you do emissaries each day, that’s an additional 1750. A few mythics, and you’re at 15k echoes / week.

This allows you to buy a few corruptions each time they’re up, without having to wait for them to come up again. If you’re starting from zero, chances are, you won’t be able to buy enough corruptions to go over what resistance your cloak provides. With rotating corruptions, and needing to gear, it’s even more likely that you will not be equipping too much corruption.

Thus, leveling the cloak in a week with echoes, over leveling it in a month with coalescing visions, doesn’t really net you anything but ~+12 resistance which you very likely will not miss much anyway. Not until you have the gear to put the corruption on, which - if you’re a casual player - will usually take longer, by which time you’ll be pretty much caught up with resistance.

Yes, you may end up being a few resistance levels behind until everyone reaches the cap. But unless you’re min-maxing to the extreme, that doesn’t matter much.

Dunno basically depends imo. I bought lucid dreams and 2 12% mastery with the amount of echoes I had on my fire mage who has no gear (like 450ish). So then I used remaining echoes on a vessel to get it up as much as possible since I wont need echoes til haste or mastery is back anyway. Also when I do get to 15 I cant use too many since the catch up doesn’t exist. The main thing I think is getting that cloak up to a level you can do a full clear without help.

It really doesn’t matter. Just play the game in whatever way you like.

Any good or op corruptions will be nerfed for sure, for the purpose of balance that Blizzard will never achieve. We all know that.

Getting essences first is a more logic choice. Then spending them on whatever corruption you like, because they will be buffed/nerfed to the same level anyway.

It really depends on the week.

I’d prioritize 12% stat corruptions over anything else, but outside of that I’d probably go for a vessel, especially if I still had mask runs that weren’t loot locked.

You’re still trying to level up your cloak, I’d say getting to level 12 is important, but then to 15 is meh, I don’t see the rush to complete that part if you’re not at the masks yet.

Your cloak is priority, the cloak will affect heavily on the corruption you will get further down the road.

There is only one path you can take, get your cloak to 15, and then focus on everything else.

The fact of the matter is what you need is to stack plenty stat corruptions, I think it was haste, and the best option is to always go for rank 3, which gives 20 corruption per corruption,

To make your character deal as much DMG as possible you need it on almost every item to make a difference, having one or two corruptions that are BIS for you don’t do a whole lot of difference.

So aim for the cloak first, and then the corruption.
It’s crit, or haste, forgot. But both give the same corruption and have three ranks.

Farming echoes is also not hard, I can farm 5000 x 3 echoes in an hour if I am lucky enough, maybe a bit longer.

Do arena, 2v2 rated, or 3v3 rated, and find a good partner, get to 1,5, or 1,6 rating you will get between 70-125 per win, each match takes 90 seconds, depending on how good you are. You have to win though.

Vessels would be logical, because…imagine you buy corruption and then next item drop you get item with same corruption and you wont be able to use.

This, Happend to me. I bought a corruptuon on a 460 item, then got the same exact on a 5 mask run. Wasted echoes.

Don’t lie. You will farm around 1k, maybe 1.5k an hour which is 3-15x less than your estimate depending on how your wording is interpreted.

Then 2 posts on you moan that you blew 5k on an item you immediately upgraded :man_facepalming:

This is another point, the R15 cape allows you to easily do 5-mask runs for a 470/465 item with a guaranteed corruption, you can simply use those items to fill the gaps until you get enough echos for the one you want later.

Friends/guildies/etc can easily help you through 5-mask runs no matter the cloak rank: die in the first area, they clear the others (except final bosses). They res you, run to first corrupted zone, kill boss, run to next. If needed, res again at half sanity. Port back to beginning, run to next corrupted zone, die, get ressed at half sanity again, run towards last lost zone, die, use orb to res. Port back to tainted area, go to boss, orb, tag it, die. They finish it off, you loot all chests, including mementos and 470 item.

Once your cloak is higher, and you have more research, you can start looting chests in visions too for more mementos.

Not easy to pull off with only one person helping, at least on lower cloak levels, but four others will make it trivial. Once you get Elite Extermination and ~rank6-ish cloak, things become considerably easier. By rank10, you can tag along for the most part with only needing one or two resses (and you’ll have your cheat death too, but that’s not very useful in the beginning).

In other words, if you have people to help you, you can do 5-mask runs in a group without needing any ranks on the cloak, or any research at all.
