What tank for m+!?

Hi all, I’m struggling on deciding what tank to role for m+.
Ive been playing wow since tbc so I’ve got a bit of experience and im currently part of a push group as a balance druid doing +13 keys but I fancy dipping into the tank role, I’ve tanked previous tiers so I do have experience but don’t really want to play DK or DH if I can help it  but not sure what to pick up… I’m leaning towards brewmaster but I’ve seen you really have to work hard for agro and staying alive compared to other tanks.

What do you guys think ?

Tia

Instincts scream Blood DK, but you said you don’t wanna touch that (rip, it’s cracked if mastered).

So realistically you’re down to Guardian druid, prot warrior or prot paladin.

Prot paladin is top tier in organized groups.
Guardian is easy to pick up, solid survivability and smooth in pugs just lacks the spice. (also its annoying to keep iron fur up all the time) (brings 3% versatility buff)
Prot Warrior is a wall…biggest problem is lacks self healing. Good control, not that good aoe threat…decent.

Brewmaster can work, needs tuning, but some are pushing high keys with it. If it feels right for you, try it out.

At the end of the day play what fits your vibe, your character, your fun.

A tank who knows their class > a fotm reroller with no clue.

Depends on your playstyle! And if you care about meta or not.

Ive played all tanks, but only dh, bdk, warr, pala and brew to 3k+ io in this expansion. Ill give you a little bit of my own personal input here:

Brewmaster: very finnicky, does have some aggro issues but once you get comfy rotational wise i didnt feel like it was too much of a problem. Managing your stagger correctly is probably the hardest. And youre most likely not gonna do as big pulls as the other tanks (in higher keys)

Paladin: very cd dependant, has okay selfsustain. Interrupt king, very nice to have if youre gonna pug and a bunch of utility aswell. I can imagine there will be mana issues with some of the healing checks in dungeons. Did i mention the interrupting shields?

Warrior: pretty beefy with just your active mitigation. Albeit very prone dying to dots and magic damage. I feel like warrior is pretty fun to play, since it just looks awesome going into avatar and just smashing everything. Almost no selfsustain.

Bdk: one of the tanks i enjoy this season. Playing sanlayn can really pump some good dps, doing upwards 2.7 mill dps overall in certain dungeons. Obviously is the king of selfsustain. Has a lot of tech using ams. Grip is pretty handy (think archers in priory). You do need to know how much damage you can take especially if you do higher keys. Otherwise you just fall over. Also if you dont have ressources banked up (bs, rp) then it can be pretty nervewrecking. Otherwise its just smooth sailing, an immortal god just walking around.

Vdh: almost as high selfsustain as bdk if youre playing aldrachi. Pretty beefy with just spikes and parry from sigils and your aldrachi buff up. Has really nice utility, especially when paired with boomie (chains into beam into silence sigil) makes some pulls a walk in the park (workshop first pull). And obviously youre a demon, thats pretty nice. Can be a problem hanging onto threat, since a lot of the abilities are bugged.

Sorry for the many short sentences. But im on my phone :joy:

Edit: also if you plan on pugging in the 12-13+ range, expect the meta mentality to kick in. So if youre not playing vdh you might get some declines. Although is never as bad as the dps queue simulator game!

You have a geared Druid. Just change spec.

Thanks for taking the time to reply :+1: very helpful :muscle:

Really enjoying my prot pala right now.

Lots of group utilities, fun gameplay, great defensives…

my fav tank spec but unfortunately sounds like its bad atm so havent really played it.

Level them all and start playing the one you like the most. You can hear all the advice in the world and still not land on something you like.

Stay AWAY from bdk, it might be fun but it is very unforgiving for new players, and it WILL make you feel bad. Especially if you try to push with it.

I will not comment on the leather tanks, since i have not played them for a bit and did not keep up.

The 2 I will recommend is warrior or paladin.

Warrior is really easy with simple playstyle and heavy defenses. Apart from some pretty good damage it feels as the most “noob friendly” this patch. I would easily recommend it.

Second recommendation is the paladin. While a bit more complex than the warrior, it is still pretty durable and with some nice cool downs to survive. The big bonus that paladin has is his utility. BoP, sac, interupts, loh and other things really help in pugs.
