What they did to this game ? :O

WTF…
Is this Classic or Retail?
Let me level up wherever I want, ffs…

I always level up in Northshire no matter what race I choose. I just started a new NE today and went to the docks outside Darnassus with my fresh lvl 1 NE toon to go to my fav questing place - Goldshire.

And my jaw dropped when I saw the label “Require level 10” :open_mouth: You cant use the portal to Stormwind now? Since when?

Then I took the free portal to Exodar and I waited 10 min for the boat to Stormwind and then I checked the NPC which told me “Im sorry, the ship is broken”… and the portal to SW req lvl 10 too.

Is this a new thing? They trying to turn Retail WoW into Classic or something?

That really sucks, glad I’ve just ran my characters through exiles reach now because that would bother me a lot.

You know, one thing I’m starting to miss while treking in Hallow’s Eve event?

Is how areas and enemies used to be set on level.

Mostly, I’m going around remembering my first character and how every zone was basically a triumph on top of the last as they moved forward and forward. Pulling out the map of where I’d go next, while if I had to backtrack the mobs before were easier.

-But now it’s all homogenized. There’s really not that feel of “I conquered this zone” because now I’m thinking of a computer that’s automatically scaling.

And in thinking of that computer automatically scaling is what really breaks that immersion. How it’ll happen again in the next crunch, they’ll make all of Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor auto-level as one big level 10-20 for the next one.

You will play the way we say! And you will like it!!

There was a boat from Exodar to Stormwind? I always thought it was only connected to Darkshore/Teldrassil.

Anyway I told them about it ages ago but they don’t seem to care. Only solution right now is to either get a summon/mage portal or just run to the Ratchet/Booty Bay boat or Theramore/Wetlands boat.

Oh and if you want boats to Teldrassil then forget it. They burned it, and since boats would appear in any phase including the burned one they replaced them with portals. Same with zeppelins to Undercity.

I believe the intention is to learn about NE through the quests you do there. Besides, it’s only a level 10 req.

If it takes aprox 2-3 hours going from 1 to 60(hardcore gaming) then it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to 1 hour or so for the likes of us to get to lvl 10.

Indirectly, with boat change at Rut’theran Village.

I honestly didn’t know about this. Haven’t played retail in a while.

What hurts the most is they didn’t even ask me first how I would feel about it.

Btw, I like your bald head

Well u can play classic and enjoy goldshire as much as u want.

If u dont like retail changes, no offense , dont play it.

They changed the leveling aspect for new players mostly.

Goldshire is still there for classic and tbc from lev 1.

I understand ur point, but to be angry for 25min-45min until u make level 10 its absurd.

Some people just find annoyances in every small aspect of the game and dont tell me lev1-10 in Goldshire is a must or u quit the game cuz that would be “something”:))

Anyway, maybe try the new exile reach, its a fun leveling experience, otherwise go level 4 hours in classoc goldshire

Dont mind him, he will find other 59 reasons until 60 to complain.

Some want classic experience on retail but avoid playing on classic servers:))

This is an interesting world to be in:)

I found a way to “cheat” it hehe, but you need some gold for flying.

With these toys from the Heirloom vendor you unlock the flight points and then fly from Darnassus to Ratched , take the boat to Booty Bay and fly to Goldshire :stuck_out_tongue:

Blame the ‘we want to be able to level anywhere’ and the ‘we want the old world to feel meaningful’ crowd for this.

They clamoured for years about how such and such a zone was pointless once they’d levelled too far or that they couldn’t complete a zone because they’d outlevelled it (something that only didn’t happen in some zones in Vanilla purely because there weren’t enough quests in said zone).

I don’t like it but this really is something the playerbase asked for.

BTW I tested it and you can use the portal from Darnassus to the Exodar and then from the Exodar to Stormwind on level 1 (yeah it’s stupid that you have to bypass via the Exodar but still). It’s actually harder to get to Darnassus because both the portals in SW and the Azuremyst require level 10.

Oh it’s real alright, and it certainly isn’t trying to turn it into WoW Classic.

It’s that Blizzard is too lazy, yes that’s the word lazy, to make sure they at least maintain the functionality of their game engine and the open world systems it creates.

So in this case the likely scenario is that they couldn’t figure out a way to make the Darkshore Warfront cooperate with these ships. They feared or perhaps tested that the ship would disappear depending on the phase of the destination, and rather than going about fixing any of this, they just disabled the whole thing, leaving any player there stranded.

And then they had the problem of spammers using portals or summons to get people into the major cities or leaving the tutorial zone early, and that must’ve broken a bunch of things apparently, so they turned that off as well because it was the easiest option.

You add those two together and you get this trash.

The vanilla team would’ve never done this. They wouldn’t, and didn’t, take the ships offline except that time at release where they put in Captain Placeholder instead who did not have level restrictions and was only because they sold literally 10 times better than expected and the servers crashed, and they didn’t prevent you from being summoned or entering a portal for any reason, and they wouldn’t have added the portals in the first place because they wanted you to traverse the world and avoid loading screens. The only reason the Draenei and Blood Elves were on their own instanced “island” was because they wanted them to be run on the Outland server - something which they admit in retrospect was a mistake and by now they would’ve surely moved it.

They also wouldn’t have made multiple phases of the same area like this in the first place.

So yeah, it’s not being turned into vanilla.

It’s not a new thing that changes are made and maybe the players were not really made aware of all the consequences of such changes. I think it was Cata when they removed the portals from Dalaran, a lot of players logged on to find themselves ‘stuck in Dalaran’ and I remember it caused an uproar both in game and on the forums.

I am sure if my memory is faulty on the above, people will correct me

I do miss some of the older ways of getting around, the boats especially.
I wish they fix Menethil Habour, Auberdine and put the boats back in. Just now the only one I know of is from Booty Bay to Ratchett.

Saying that you’d hit level 10 in 30 minutes of playing. Do the quests in Azuremyst, the forest there is nice. Is there a Hallow’s End fire there? Click it and get 10% extra xp.

I didn’t know that. I haven’t been making any new characters since they brought in scaling. That’s horrible. What are they thinking?

Classic was the opposite - open. You could travel from anywhere to anywhere at any level. You might spend 90% of your time dead :stuck_out_tongue: but you could do it.

This.

This is a part of what I have felt ever since scaling,

It’s been like this for many years, I can’t remember exactly when the change came in.

I think it was in the Great Portal Purge at the end of Legion or early BFA. I miss some of those portals, like one to Kara in Legion Dalaran was handy. At least they brought back the one to Caverns of Time (what a ridiculous move to get rid of that).
