Hi guys, not going to lie. I always liked MM and I mostly play PvP. MM was very strong and fun spec back then. It was great in arenas and RBG. I heard it had also the best damage potential for Hunter but the problem was it needed bis legos. Without them BM outperformed it (talking about Antorus).
The problem was nothing to do with legendaries, our legendaries were pretty weak.
The reason it got changed is simply the majority of the player base did not like it and did not properly understand it. The concept of applying vulnerable and then delaying using aimed shots until the end of vulnerable (With the deadeye talent), was just not something most people really understood or played around.
Most people just sort of aimed when they could, marked when it lit up, and hoped for the best, thinking it was a relatively straight forward spec. But in reality it was quite difficult to play optimally and most people just didn’t like that. People always throw around ‘it was super rng to apply vulnerable’ but this just shows that people didn’t understand it properly, there was almost no RNG involved in this, and if you played properly you had vulnerable active for 95% of the time you needed it.
Main reason, is just that it wasn’t intuitive to most of the playerbase.
it was boring thats why
I actually see post Legion MM and Survival as boring. Extremely static sniper gimmick and spec that doesn’t really feel as whole. In Legion in PvP we played with Sidewinders so we had guaranteed Vulnerable. It was great in arenas and RBGs. Nowadays none of Hunter specs ate desired in RBG.
Survival was actually great in Arenas and it had it’s flavour with traps and granades.
MM is like Affliction - Blizzard tried hard to make it good for PvE and killed the iconic PvP spec.
So legion MM was boring and current BFA/SL pressing aimed + rapid on CD is really exciting?
The question you just asked that person is really odd.
Legion MM was a bad version Bfa/SL MM is worse.
I didn’t mind the Marked Shot and vulnerability windows. But spamming Arcane Shot as focus builder gives me nightmares… and carpal tunnel syndrome.
I think that is the difference. In PvP we played with Sidewinders so we had guaranteed Vulnerable windows.
I was curious why it was reworked since Legion MM was effective and fun PvP spec and since that rework MM is PvP gimp.
MM in WoD was my favorite spec to date.
Legion ruined the whole class.
WoD was basically no different to how it is now though. People look back on it fondly but really it was an extremely simple spec without really any depth. There isn’t much difference between aimed/steady and using chim shot on cooldown, and aimed/arcane/steady and using rapid fire on cooldown which we have now.
If MM now was anything like it was in WoD I’d be maining one. But, alas, it is not.
Everything, including aimed shot, was usable on the move. Chimaera shot hit like a truck immediately and the animation looked way better than rapid fire does.
I don’t think MM even needs arcane shot, Aimed and chim should be the only focus costing, hard hitting abilities, with steady shot being the focus generator. Somehow WoD MM’s version of Trueshot (was it named rapid fire? Cant remember) also felt better to use even when it was just a flat haste buff, because you weren’t out of focus immediately.
Was it simple? Yeah. Absolutely. But has there ever been as good iteration of a long-range sniper what MM was supposed to be? Nope. Even Legion MM abomination didn’t hit nearly as hard as MM did baseline in WoD without needing a vulnerable window.
Function > form. I mean you need only look at the hunter class spec representation coming from WoD (or any expansion since), where each spec held roughly 1/3rd of the playerbase of hunters- Which means they were all fun to play and they were designed good.
Now if you look at yhe representation BM makes up the lion share of all hunters with MM far behind, and survival being so low it might as well be written off as a statistical error.
I don’t mind if people enjoy hunter now- i don’t really, so I just abandoned the class more or less since Legion. As most others seem to have (rip survival players vanishing overnight from WoD to Legion).
